Sangster said: 'She's the only one in there who hasn't won, but we feel her seconds have been good performances that can be marked up a bit.
'I hope the step up to seven furlongs will bring about some improvement and she's a home bred of owner Ahmad Ziad Galadari so it would be nice to go there and pick up some black type.'
It was Shuwari who helped advertise Sangster's ability as a trainer when landing this race in 2023, and after Celestial Orbit repeated the dose 12 months ago, the Manton handler admits the pressure was on to find another suitable candidate for this year's contest.
He added: 'It's been a lucky race for us so I wanted to find something nice for it. I'm not sure she's of the calibre of the fillies we've run in the race the last two years, but she seems to be progressing.
'There's only 10 days between this and her last run at Windsor which is perhaps a little soon, but I don't think she had an overly hard race last time and hopefully the stiff nature of the finish at Sandown might be beneficial for her.
'It's not a big field but there's some nice fillies in there who have won good maidens, so no doubt there is a bit of depth to it.'
Hayynah is among a field of eight for the feature event on Thursday's card, with Richard Hannon's taking Newmarket scorer Orion's Belt chief leading the opposition.
John and Thady Gosden won this with Inspiral in 2021 and rely on Albany Stakes seventh Nandita, who steps up in trip while dropping in grade, with Charlie Johnston is another to win this race in recent years and his Jennifer Jane is already proven over the distance after a runaway win at Wetherby on her second start.
Edward Smyth-Osbourne's Haydock scorer Tavana, Karl Burke's Hope Queen and James Ferguson's Electoral College have all raced once and one once, with Eve Johnston Houghton's Mystic Moment the most experienced in the field and set to make her fifth start after opening her account at Epsom.

TEMPLEGATE is in red-hot form and he tackles Saturday's action from Glorious Goodwood confident of smashing the bookies once more. Back a horse by clicking their odds below. SAM HAWKENS (1.55 Goodwood, nap) He is a stayer on the up as he showed when scooting in over 1m5f at Hamilton last time. There was a bit of juice in the ground at the Scottish track and he wasn't stopping at the line. This is a hotter race but there's more to come. SAYIDAH HARD SPUN (2.10 Newmarket, nb) She has won two of her past three runs and saw out this trip well when scoring at Ascot last time. The handicapper has been fair with a 3lb rise in the weights and she can take another step forward. She won this race 12 months ago and returning to this trip and track can bring out her best form. She was beaten when odds-on at Sandown last time but that was a muddling race and he was only two lengths away at the line. We know she stays and a little give in the ground is fine while William Haggas is in fine form. GOODWOOD 1.20 ARABIAN CROWN was a solid third in a Newmarket Group 2 last time and the form has been franked here this week. He goes on any ground and sees out this trip. There's more to come from this four-year-old. Al Aasy won this last year and, while he's not the greatest battler, his class will see him close again. Candleford is seven now but looked as good as ever when taking a Beverley Listed prize last month. He likes this trip and William Haggas is in decent form. Meydaan was second on his last visit here in May and has been running well at Listed level without winning. Ryan Moore taking over is a plus but he needs a bit more to score. Ambiente Friendly hasn't fired this season and has been gelded since a poor effort at Royal Ascot. 1.55 SAM HAWKENS is a stayer on the up as he showed when scooting in over 1m5f at Hamilton last time. There was a bit of juice in the ground at the Scottish track and he wasn't stopping at the line. This is a hotter race but there's more to come. Aeronautic was a good fifth in the Copper Horse handicap at Royal Ascot over this distance and is open to improvement for Joseph O'Brien. He's off the same mark and may prefer this slightly slower ground. Stressfree would have a massive chance if seeing out this longer trip. He has been going well around 1m4f and looks a big price to place. French Duke is another stepping up in distance and he won at this meeting last season. Roger Varian's hope is 10lb higher than that now but should have more to offer. Master Builder often travels well without winning but he has scored over this trip and didn't run badly on his last run here. 2.30 TERM OF ENDEARMENT won this race 12 months ago and returning to this trip and track can bring out her best form. She was beaten when odds-on at Sandown last time but that was a muddling race and he was only two lengths away at the line. We know she stays and a little give in the ground is fine while William Haggas is in fine form. Danielle is interesting on this hike in distance having shown Group quality over shorter. This may not be the day after a long break she's one to watch. Fellow Gosden runner Sueno was a solid second at Newmarket latest and ran well over this distance at York before that. She is another with solid claims. Goodie Two Shoes won a Group 3 over this distance at Fairyhouse latest and is respected with William Buick up. Waardah is a three-year-old with a bright future after a Listed win here in June. That was over 1m2f so she has to prove her staying power. I'M in the PUROSANGUE gang in the £250,000 Stewards' Cup. Top jockey William Buick teams up with Andrew Balding with this four-year-old who saves his best for this distance and likes soft ground. He should get his conditions here and run a big race at fair odds. Last year's winner Get It took the Wokingham last time and will go close again, while Completely Random also went well at Royal Ascot. Elmonjed is another one high on the shortlist. Here's my guide to the big field, where I rate them 1 (worst) to 5 (best): ALZAHIR 3 HIR we go. Went off far too quick at York last time after three good wins. Goes on any ground and may bounce back at too big a price. ANNAF 3 AF a go. Big player at best but unreliable and slow away too often. Talented if getting a clean break but has a big weight. APOLLO ONE 3 ONE show. Twice second in this and always runs his race but probably needs a personal best to finally win it. CIRCE 4 YES Cir. Strong traveller with three wins this summer. Up in class but big field suits and Moore up. Handles soft. COMMANCHE FALLS 2 COM on. Dual winner of this race in his proime. Stable back in nick but latest form underwhelming. Hard to rule out, but needs best to hit the frame. COMPLETELY RANDOM 4 RAN raid. Good run in the Wokingham latest and will love the pace of this. Just the type to pop up in a race like this. DESERT COP 1 COP out. Decent form in Bahrain but has been poor back here. Looks the yard's second string. DRAMA 2 NO Drama. Plenty of form on AW but turf record is weaker. Unlucky last time but needs more for this. ELMONJED 4 EL of a bet. Improved a bundle to win at York and likes this trip and going. More weight but a major player. GERMANIC 2 TOO Manic. Two quiet on turf efforts since a big run over this at Newcastle. Trip fine but needs a lot more. GET IT 4 IT makes sense. Won this at 40s last year and took the Wokingham last time in style. Only 4lb higher and set for bold bid from from front. No shock to see him go very close. HAMMER THE HAMMER 3 HAMMER time. Good second at Royal Ascot over 5f and likes this trip. Not tackled slow ground before but it's early days and there's more to come. JAKAJARO 3 ALRIGHT Jak. Unlucky at Ascot and ran well here Tuesday. First try at 6f but looks well treated. Off the same mark and not discounted. JORDAN ELECTRICS 1 JOR drop. Getting on a bit now and poor comeback latest. Hard to fancy despite trainer Jim Goldie being in good form. JUNGLE DRUMS 1 JUNGLE juiced. Fair 2yo but been poor for a while and this looks much too tough. Drums out of tune. KORKER 3 KOR blimey. Hold-up horse who needs luck but trip fine and likes soft. Each-way shout if getting the breaks. ORAZIO 1 ON Raz. Hit and miss last year and poor comeback at Ascot. Hard to fancy despite handling any ground. PUROSANGUE 5 URO Star. Backed for this last year on firm but best efforts on soft and dropped to a very nice mark. Can go close. RUN BOY RUN 3 ON Run. Has been reliable in top 6f races and didn't stay 7f last twice. Back to best trip and could sneak a place. SAINT LAWRENCE 1 LAW broken. Not won since the 2023 Wokingham and poor in that race this year. Tall order in current form. SEVEN QUESTIONS 1 SEVEN down. Group 3 winner last term over 5f and best at that trip. Shown little form this season. STRIKE RED 3 RED alert. Best of group behind Elmonjed at York. Nicely treated and peaking at right time. Can run a good race. THE X O 1 CROSS out X. Out of sorts for a while and tailed off on stable debut. Trip suits but not good enough for this. TOCA MADERA 2 MAD bet. Good third at York in May and holding his form but doesn't look well treated in first-time cheekpieces. TWILIGHT CALLS 1 TWILIGHT in dark. Three years without a win tells the tale. Best over this trip but likely to struggle again. TWILIGHT JET 2 JET must fly. Ran well at Epsom but was poor here on Tuesday. Prefers this trip on soft but needs a lot more. TWO TRIBES 3 TWO true. Won strong 7f race last week at Ascot and stamina may help in conditions. Could get involved late. VADREAM 2 BAD Vad. Was tailed off at Royal Ascot and on a long losing run. Slow ground suits but up against it again. 3.45 SPIRIT OF FARHH looks a big price given how well he took a Newmarket handicap over this trip 14 days ago. The ground was tacky on the July course but he went through it nicely and is open to improvement. In-form trainer Eve Johnson Houghton has a good record here and can go close again. Montpellier won a couple of maidens and ran well at Salisbury on handicap debut last time. There's more to come with this step up in distance a wise move. Consolidation was snookered by the draw at Royal Ascot but won over this course and distance two starts ago. It's early days and there should be a lot more to come. Mudbir is bred to be classy and scored on handicap debut at Sandown 28 days ago. He should progress from there from the Gosdens and looks a big player. Rare Change was hampered at Newcastle last time after winning at Pontefract. He likes this trip and has place claims. Yah Mo Be There ran well in the Jersey Stakes from a moderate draw and is another danger. NEWMARKET 2.10 SAYIDAH HARD SPUN has won two of her past three runs and saw out this trip well when scoring at Ascot last time. The handicapper has been fair with a 3lb rise in the weights and she can take another step forward. Awaafi was a promising second at Haydock last time. She shapes as though seven furlongs would be ideal but her stamina could be an asset here. Azleet enjoyed the all-weather when scoring over this distance at Southwell 20 three weeks ago. Her opening handicap mark of 76 looks on the lenient side and there should be more to come. Ruby's Angel is another making her handicap debut and was a place behind Awaafi last time. Despite that she carries 1lb more which seems a little strange but she's not out of this. Meelaf completes the field for in-form Karl Burke and has run well at Group 3 level so is no mug in this wide-open contest. Her mark is not the kindest and she might have less scope than a few of these now but she's quick. 3.20 MERIBELLA had some traffic problems in a Pontefract Listed race last time so did well to finish third. This trip is ideal and she will be on the premises again. Jane Temple clocked a personal best when third in a similar contest to this last time. She goes on any ground and will be right there. Silent Love steps out of maiden company where she landed a battling success at Kempton latest. This longer trip will suit and there's a fair bit more to come. Sioux Life is an Italian Group 2 winner over 1m2f so has quality but her first crack at this trip at Haydock last time was only a modest run. Karmology was second in good company at Beverley and will try to nick this off the front. She's likely to be collared by a couple in the closing stages. He has had only one start this term, struggling to make an impression in a handicap over the same trip at Royal Ascot, but Roger Varian's runner could build on that. His connections have been working on getting him settled and, if he switches off OK he could improve for this step up in trip. This course evidently suits, he handles slow ground and he has untapped potential. Hugo Palmer's filly most recently finished one place behind Awaafi at Haydock, only a neck behind that rival, but she had been off for two months before that outing. 2.30 Goodwood – Lillie Langtry Stakes (Group 2, 1m 6f; ITV1 & Racing TV) This is a good, competitive staying event for fillies and mares that includes last year's winner Term Of Endearment, but the vote goes to the Joseph O'Brien-trained GOODIE TWO SHOES, who has won her last three starts in Ireland, most recently a Group 3 over 1m 6f at Fairyhouse. 3.05 Goodwood – Stewards' Cup (Heritage Handicap, 6f; ITV1 & Racing TV) Get It made all in this race last year and again in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot in June, but the ground may be slower than he wants this time. There's also Commanche Falls, who won it in 2021 and 2022, however others make more appeal now. It might not be that imaginative, but it seems like backing PUROSANGUE and HAMMER THE HAMMER would give one a fair chance of being on the winner. Both seem likely to go well. Purosangue was well beaten as the 9/2 favourite for this race last year, but slower ground this time is in his favour and he was second in the 2023 Molecomb Stakes at this meeting, so the track isn't an issue. He comes into this off a nice run in the Wokingham, when ninth of 28 on ground faster than ideal. Hammer The Hammer is a highly progressive three-year-old, most recently finishing second in the Palace of Holyroodhouse at Royal Ascot. This test should suit him and he holds Group 1 entries. Selection: Purosangue 1pt win @ 15/2 with Betfred 3.20 Newmarket – Chalice Stakes (Listed, 1m 4f; ITV1 & Racing TV) This fillies' event isn't strong for the class and maybe SILENT LOVE can progress enough to take it and emulate her dam, Haddith, a Listed winner at Newmarket's other course for the same connections. Silent Love won a maiden at the third attempt, her success coming over 1m 3f at Kempton in the manner of an out-and-out galloper who will be suited by this added emphasis on stamina. Jockey Billy Loughnane has a tremendous record (9-16 before Friday evening's racing) when teaming up with trainer Charlie Appleby . 3.45 Goodwood – Class 2 Handicap (7f; ITV1 & Racing TV) There are a few nice types in this strong-looking three-year-old event, but MUDBIR is hard to ignore. This John & Thady Gosden-trained runner has had only four starts, most recently taking his form to a new level in winning a useful 7f handicap at Sandown. The runner-up from that race ran creditably from a tricky draw here on Wednesday. It's hard to fathom how the handicapper has nudged Mudbir up only 2lb for that, leaving him on a mark of 91. That's an underestimation of this close relation to the same connections' dual Group 1 winner Nazeef. He's also a half-brother to their dual top-level scorer Mostahdaf. Yes, Dubai Beach in the 4.05 at Thirsk. She was beaten at short odds at Kempton last time, but it may still be worth buying into the form of her Chelmsford win two starts back, when she fairly bolted up. The runner-up and fourth both won next time out. What does NAP mean? NAP is a word used in betting circles to describe a prediction that a tipster thinks has a particularly strong chance of winning. My audience with Frankel — king of racehorses
For racing fans, the name Frankel is the equivalent of the mythical Pegasus. But the unbeaten superstar of the sport, who was retired from the track in 2012 and is now 17, doesn't reside on Olympus. Instead he can be visited in his stable in Newmarket courtesy of Newmarket Tours. The bad news is that Frankel is only available to the public eight times a year — for a group limited to 24 — and tickets are snapped up faster than an Oasis reunion. For aficionados, this really is the hottest ticket in town. The legend of Frankel is for ever tied with that of his trainer, the late great Sir Henry Cecil. Champion trainer ten times between 1976 and 1993, the charismatic Cecil's career had declined with the combination of a fallout with Sheikh Mohammed, two divorces (he married for a third time in 2008) and then a gradual physical decline caused by stomach cancer. From a peak of having about 200 horses in his care and for decades churning out over 100 winners a year, Cecil was down to about 50 and in 2005 he hit rock bottom with just 12 winners. The following year he was diagnosed with stomach cancer and, but for the staunch support of his leading owner, Prince Khalid Abdullah, he would surely have retired. Cecil had remained a darling of the racing public throughout, though, and it was Abdullah who provided Cecil with his greatest legacy when sending Frankel to his stables as an unraced two-year-old colt back in 2010. Frankel went on to win all 14 races he took part in, from 2010 to 2012, ten of them at the highest level, as he went from strength to strength while his once-dashing trainer looked ever more frail. Many believe that Frankel was all that kept Cecil going in his final years and the trainer finally succumbed to the illness in 2013, his life's work achieved. Those lucky enough to buy the golden Frankel tickets can still be a part of that great legacy. A half-day tour costs just £110, while a full-day version is £210. There are four of each a year. The full-day events start at 8am and are hosted by Cecil's widow, Lady Cecil, who both acts as your tour guide — adding her personal Frankel memories — and hosts a two-course lunch at the Bedford Lodge Hotel on the outskirts of town. The morning takes in a behind-the-scenes visit to Newmarket's Rowley Mile Course (the town also has the July Course), a visit to the gallops and a tour of a trainer's yard before lunch. It is a 2pm start for the half-day tour, meeting at the National Horseracing Museum in the middle of Newmarket. The tour bus is ageing but the journey times are short and the guides, with their years of experience in the sport, are brilliant. The former jockey Larry Bowden steered my bus and delivered a flawless commentary with a hint of a Suffolk accent. Every stud and training yard is accurately reeled off as you drive past, with historical facts about Newmarket and plenty of other little-known gems sprinkled in, all delivered with a dash of humour. • Read more luxury reviews, advice and insights from our experts First stop was the top of Warren Hill gallop, close to where Frankel was trained at Cecil's Warren Place base, and offers views across the town. It is a scene that has scarcely changed since Newmarket racecourse was founded by King Charles II back in 1636. Then comes the main event as you arrive at Banstead Manor Stud, which has been Frankel's home since his retirement from racing at the end of 2012. Not every top racehorse enjoys success at stud, with several Derby winners in recent years failing to produce progeny with the requisite ability and ending their careers in far-flung outposts. Frankel has proved exceptional, siring a seemingly endless list of top-class horses. His racing career earned £3 million but breeding is where the real money is. He is visited by about 150 mares during the breeding season, with their owners paying £350,000 a time for the privilege, earning Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms about £52.5 million a year. Given those numbers, it is no surprise that the surroundings are opulent, with well-appointed brick stables set among manicured lawns surrounded by pristine hedges that hide the rolling paddocks behind. If there is so much as a blade of grass out of place, it is not apparent. Banstead Manor houses seven stallions — one of them being Chaldean, a son of Frankel who followed his father by winning the 2,000 Guineas (one of five classics that are run each year in Britain). • The Queen, horse racing and me, by one of Britain's best trainers These are not pets, though, that you can pat on the nose in their stables. They are working horses. Thoroughbreds are by nature flighty and stallions often have plenty of attitude. Each stallion has their own personal groom, with whom they need to gel, and Frankel has been looked after by Rob Bowley since he arrived there in November 2012. The stallions are displayed, one at a time, by their grooms as we are given a running commentary by Henry Bletsoe as to both their racing career and their quirks. Frankel might be the main draw, but we are told that he is not the boss at the stud, with Oasis Dream, who is now 25, still demanding to be first in line. He really does have attitude, despite his advancing years, but looks magnificent with his coat gleaming in the sunshine. Then the main event saunters into view. Frankel, with his four white socks and distinctive crown-shaped white mark on his forehead, is rather more relaxed. He stands obediently as the group looks on in awe at this magnificent specimen, who is prepared to have pictures taken as long as a timely supply of carrots is provided by Bowley, who chats to him throughout. After a few minutes, though, his head starts nodding with ever greater frequency as boredom sets in — why have I been brought out of my stable when there is no mare to visit? He saunters back to his stable and disappears from view. • Can Gen Z save racing? Traditionalists have their doubts The tour ends with a visit to the breeding barn, with our guide trying to find appropriate words to describe how things work with two children in attendance, much to the amusement of the rest of the group. Goodie bags are handed out, in classy Frankel-design bags, which include much sought-after Frankel caps, leaving no doubt as to who is the star of the show. The trip is rounded off with tea and scones back at the museum at 4pm, which allows the chance for any lingering questions to be answered. Newmarket Tours was set up in 2015 and is a not-for-profit organisation that supports tourism in the 'Home of Horseracing'. It is doing invaluable work for the town, operating six days a week and entertaining 10,000 visitors last year. Those unable to buy the Frankel tickets have many other options to choose from, starting from as little as £16.50 (£5 for under-16s) for a 90-minute trip to the National Stud, whose four stallions include the triple Ascot Gold Cup winner Stradivarius. Other studs, trainers' yards and behind-the-scenes access on race days at Newmarket are all available depending on your budget. There are about 3,000 horses in training in Newmarket, but Frankel, who retired in 2012, remains the town's biggest asset. A recent TV advert has a voice-over of a horse telling viewers that 'the Goat is a horse'. It goes on to remind 'mere humans' that a horse can 'sprint 100 metres in five seconds — with one of you on my back'. After centuries of breeding thoroughbred racehorses to become ever faster, Frankel is the best yet. The chance to see him in the flesh once again is too good to miss.
