Housing dept urges ULBs to hasten verification of PMAY 2.0 applications

Time of India30-06-2025
Bhubaneswar: To ensure timely allocation of houses under
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
2.0 (PMAY 2.0), the housing and urban development department has asked all urban local bodies to expedite the verification process of applications received from beneficiaries.
In a letter to the heads of all urban local bodies, Satish Chandra Singh, joint secretary of the Odisha Urban Housing Mission, expressed displeasure over the slow progress of the verification process and asked them to expedite the process while generating awareness among beneficiaries.
As per data, so far 82,382 applications have been received, out of which 48,598 applications have been received under the beneficiary-led construction.
However, only 13,925 applications were verified, and project proposals for 11,959 units were submitted to the state, Singh states.
Terming the number significantly low compared to the total number of applications, Singh stated that a recent email received from the ministry of housing and urban affairs indicated that the total number of houses sanctioned under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0 in Odisha constitutes only 12% of total households.
"MoHUA has categorised the ULBs in Odisha to prioritise the application verification based on their performance," states Singh. Priority 1 is ULBs with house sanction rates below 12%, while the second one is ULBs with house sanction rates between 12% and 24%, and the third is the remaining ones.
"ULBs in Priority 1 must intensify awareness programmes among beneficiaries, expedite application verification by deploying additional resources on a war footing, and submit new detailed project reports under PMAY-U 2.0 urgently," the additional secretary states in the letter.
For ULBs coming under Priority 2, Singh asked them to prepare and submit proposals by following the due verification process. "It is advised that ULBs such as Khariar, Kotpad, and Champua exercise extra caution during the verification process," he said.
These three ULBs share borders with neighbouring states like Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. "It is requested to take immediate and necessary steps to fast-track the verification and proposal submission process and issue appropriate instructions to concerned officials," Singh concludes.
Notably, the application process for sanctioning houses under PMAY 2.0 is ongoing. The beneficiaries have been receiving houses under different verticals under the central scheme, such as affordable housing, beneficiary-led construction, and in-situ slum redevelopment programmes.

Ranchi farmer, E S'bhum's ‘Lady Tarzan' to attend I-Day dinner at Rashtrapati Bhavan

1 2 3 4 Ranchi: Two individuals from Jharkhand, a farmer from Ranchi's Bisa village, Ramdas Bedia, and Padma Shri award winner from East Singhbhum, Jamuna Tudu, popularly known as 'Lady Tarzan', will be among the attendees for the Independence Day dinner at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 15, hosted by the President in New Delhi. Ramdas Bedia, a 44-year-old farmer from the Angara block, earned the honour by completing his home under the PM Awas Yojana (rural) ahead of schedule, within just four months, while the scheme's timeline allowed for 12 months. As a labourer and subsistence farmer, Bedia also benefited from MGNREGA, receiving Rs 18,000 alongside a Rs 1.2 lakh PMAY grant in March. The special invitation sparked celebrations across the village. "When I opened the letter from the President's office, I was speechless with joy. I never expected this," Bedia said. Angara BDO Jaipal Soy said, "Ramdas received Rs 1.20 lakh under PMAY-Gramin and other govt assistance. His determination to finish the house in just four months, far ahead of the 12-month target, shows how govt support can make a real difference when used with commitment." Bedia added, "Once I got the funds, I didn't want to delay. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like When the Camera Clicked at the Worst Possible Time Read More Undo I wanted my family to have a strong roof before the rain comes." Meanwhile, 43-year-old environmental activist Jamuna Tudu from Chakulia has been similarly honoured. Since 1998, she has taken up initiatives from the grassroots to save Muturkham's forests, forming the Van Suraksha Samiti, and rallying village women against the timber mafia. Her lifelong stewardship of Jharkhand's wooded terrain earned her the Padma Shri in 2019. The invitation to dine at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 15 marks another milestone for her conservation campaign. Recalling her journey, Tudu said, "I grew up watching my father plant trees and teach the value of forests. When I came to Chakulia and saw the Muturkham forest neglected, I could not stay silent. In 1998, I gathered women from my village, and we formed a group to protect the trees. It was never easy, but the forest stands today because we refused to give up." Opposition has no vision for UP's devpt: Minister

Lucknow: Transport minister Daya Shankar Singh on Tuesday accused the opposition, especially the Samajwadi Party (SP), of running away from meaningful discussions in the Assembly as it has "no real issues or vision" for the state's development. Singh said the govt had invited the opposition parties to discuss urgent matters such as the ongoing floods, but they refused. "Before the floods, the govt had already arranged relief material, shelters, and fodder for animals. These good efforts are what they don't want to hear," he remarked. He alleged that the opposition boycotted proceedings over minor issues. Referring to the Fatehpur incident, Singh said FIRs had been lodged against 11 accused, and action would be taken against all those found guilty. He pointed out that an SP leader allegedly involved had been expelled by the party itself. Criticising SP's approach, Singh said, "They contest elections and run govt on the basis of hooliganism, not democracy." Speaking about the upcoming special 24-hour Assembly session — the first of its kind — Singh said it would give all MLAs and ministers an opportunity to share their vision for "Viksit Bharat, Viksit Uttar Pradesh 2047." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The ideas discussed will be placed in the public domain for feedback, aiming to shape the state's roadmap when India celebrates 100 years of independence. Singh accused the SP of opposing the session simply for the sake of it. "For the first time, instead of avoiding debate, the government is inviting everyone to participate. This is why Uttar Pradesh has progressed significantly since 2017 compared to before," he said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
