Abilene mother on a mission after alleged home invasion by sex offender

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – When someone enters your home without permission, it violates your sense of security. This raises alarm and can lead to other fears. An Abilene woman is now using that fear to raise awareness and urging her neighborhood to stay vigilant. A North Abilene mother, who is using the alias 'Elizabeth' for safety reasons, is seeking answers after a man she believes to be homeless allegedly broke into her home around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. While she was staying at her mother's house, she received a phone call from her stepson informing her that something was wrong. 'My stepson was calling me, and he was all like, 'Mom, there's somebody in the house.' I'm like, what do you mean, there's somebody in the house,' explained Elizabeth. Elizabeth explained that her stepson was walking in and out of the house and had left the door unlocked. Suddenly, he heard the door open and believed it was his dad. After calling out his name and receiving no response, he went to investigate and found a man standing in the middle of the kitchen. He turned on the light and quickly told him to leave. After no response, she explained that he pulled out a firearm to scare him off. It worked, and he called the Abilene Police Department, and the man was arrested at Cobb Park. Registered sex offender, career criminal charged with trespass after invading home with Abilene family inside Elizabeth adds that her family had never had anything like this happen. The home she lives in now was her childhood home, and many residents in the area have lived there for decades. It's the type of neighborhood where everyone knows everyone. 'We don't know who he was. We didn't allow anybody in the house. I mean, it was 2:00 in the morning. Everybody else was asleep. It's shocking that nobody else woke up when it happened. But when you're used to living in tight quarters, and you know, people will make noise. We don't know exactly where he was heading. He decided he wanted to have a snack because he did eat some of our food. But as far as how far he got into the house, we really don't know that answer either,' added Elizabeth. The man who was arrested is Samuel Seballos. After researching, Elizabeth found that he had been arrested in the past due to similar incidents. 'I'm a very big searcher. I found out that on the last few arrests, it said one, two, three transient, which more likely just means that that person is homeless, and they are also like that on the Texas Sex Offender Registry,' shared Elizabeth. This mother is taking action by raising awareness among her neighbors. She has even created flyers and installed security cameras. Although she is anxious that the individual may be released from jail and might commit a similar crime, she hopes that her experience will encourage others to recognize concerning behavior and speak up. 'I made fliers, and I passed them all up and down the block, and I went all the way to the other end. Just getting to know the neighbors, you know, getting that one-on-one, even if it's like a Facebook group or messaging or just even trying to start a lookout,' explained Elizabeth. Elizabeth adds that her children are still recovering emotionally from this incident. She hopes she can find other ways to protect her home and family. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
