Orlando Pirates came back from a goal down to beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in a Betway Premiership match played at the sold-out FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
With fans coming in late at the stadium the game was delayed for 30 minutes to allow them to get into the stadium.

Glody Lilepo gave Amakhosi the perfect start to the match when he found the back of the net in as early as the second minute of the match.
Following the lead, Chiefs took control of the match and put Pirates under pressure early on, but the Buccaneers found their rhythm as the game progressed and created opportunities of their own.
A mistake in the middle of the park by Mduduzi Shabalala led to the equaliser for Pirates in the 24th minute.
The young forward made a wrong decision to pass the ball on the left instead of the right where Gaston Sirino was free and the ball was intercepted by Thalente Mbatha who passed it to Mohau Nkota. Nkota then laid a perfect cross for Makgopa to head it home.
Tapelo Xoki almost put the Buccaneers in the lead with a header seven minutes later, but Bruce Bvuma did well to tip the ball over the crossbar for a corner kick.
Makgopa also wasted a good chance to grab a brace and put Pirates in the lead after beating Edmilson Dove to the ball with a clever chip but rushed his shot and the ball went wide of goal.
Mbekezeli Mbokazi almost gave Chiefs the lead on the stroke of half-time when he tried to clear the ball, but instead directed the ball to his own net, but Sipho Chaine pulled off a good save to make sure that the teams were locked at 1-1 at the break.
Pirates coach Jose Riveiro replaced Paseko Mako with Kabelo Dlamini at the start of the second half, while his Chiefs counterpart Nasreddine Nabi kept the team that had started the game.
Dlamini almost made an immediate impact to the game when he was found by Relebohile Mofokeng inside the box, but his shot went inches over the crossbar with Bvuma well-beaten.
Pirates' pressure finally paid off as Mofokeng found a loose ball inside the Chiefs' penalty area and he slotted the ball home to put the Buccaneers in the lead.
Things went from bad to worse for Chiefs in referee's optional time when Bradley Cross was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence.
In the end the Buccaneers took maximum points and the bragging rights in the Soweto derby.

Mbule could be good for Chiefs, but must change his ways: ‘Disco' Makua
Would it be worthwhile for Kaizer Chiefs to sign Sipho Mbule despite his well-known off-field troubles? After his agent Mike Makaab publicly declared he had offered the troublesome playmaker to Chiefs, Amakhosi midfield legend Frank 'Disco' Makua endorsed the possible recruitment, but warned the wayward star will have to change his behaviour. Mbule's off-field misdemeanours have been well-documented since he emerged at SuperSport United, with Sekhukhune United the latest club to reject him after Mamelodi Sundowns dispatched him there on loan. The 27-year-old midfielder is without a club after Downs opted not to renew his contract, prompting Makaab, in a bizarre social media post, to declare the talented but sometimes wayward midfielder had been 'offered to Chiefs'.

Kaizer Chiefs raid Orlando Pirates as Mako and Monyane sign
Kaizer Chiefs have wasted no time reinforcing their defence, securing Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane just days after their exit from arch-rivals Orlando Pirates. The move comes as a clear signal of intent from the Soweto giants, who are desperate to bounce back stronger in the upcoming season. Both defenders bring experience and grit to a Chiefs side that struggled with depth in the full-back positions. With Reeve Frosler sidelined due to injury and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe departing, the urgency to strengthen the backline was impossible to ignore. Orlando Pirates confirmed on Friday that Mako and Monyane were departing, with Mako's contract set to expire at the end of June. Chiefs capitalised immediately, offering Mako a three-year deal, effective from 1 July. Monyane joins to challenge Frosler for the right-back spot, giving coach Nasreddine Nabi a much-needed boost in options. The signings represent more than just player acquisitions, they're a statement of dominance over their biggest rivals. The arrival of Mako and Monyane raises key questions about the futures of Dillan Solomons, Edmilson Dove, and Reeve Frosler. Solomons filled in at right-back during Frosler's injury. Despite his efforts, the technical team noted several deficiencies in his performances. With Monyane's arrival, Solomons is now the third choice in that position. Having signed a four-year contract in 2022, he still has a year left, and Chiefs are expected to keep him as a squad player. Edmilson Dove's future appears uncertain. The Mozambican international's contract expires at the end of June, and although Amakhosi triggered a one-year extension last season, indications suggest he may not have done enough to secure another renewal. Mako is set to slot in as the first-choice left-back. Chiefs' tactical overhaul includes moving Bradley Cross to left centre-back, with Aden McCarthy also lined up as a backup to Rushwin Dortley. This structural shift suggests Nabi is building a more robust and dynamic defence. With Monyane and Mako offering pace, aggression, and attacking threat from wide areas. Frosler set to fight for his spot Despite missing the latter part of the season due to injury, Reeve Frosler remains central to Chiefs' plans. The 27-year-old signed a contract extension in March and featured 16 times in the Betway Premiership. He is still regarded as the club's primary right-back, but with Monyane's arrival, competition for the role intensifies, something Nabi believes is crucial for maintaining high performance. Will Monyane and Mako be a good fit at Kaizer Chiefs? Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Sundowns' Maema tight-lipped on future after making CWC squad
'I'm not going to mention anything about my future at the club because I'm still a Sundowns player,' said Maema. Neo Maema of Mamelodi Sundowns during the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 departure at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, on 08 June 2025 ©Phakamisa Lensman/BackpagePix Neo Maema has remained tight-lipped about his future after being named in Mamelodi Sundowns' final squad for the Fifa Club World Cup. The skilful midfielder endured a tough 2024/25 season, struggling for regular game time, with strong speculation suggesting he could be on his way out of the Chloorkop-based outfit. The former Bloemfontein Celtic star is believed to have just one year left on his current deal, having joined the Brazilians on a five-year contract in 2021. Maema featured in only seven Betway Premiership matches during the campaign after falling down the pecking order in the star-studded squad. Notably, Thapelo Maseko and Terrence Mashego are the two most high-profile absentees from the travelling party heading to the United States for the global showpiece. Sundowns have been drawn in Group F alongside Ulsan HD, Borussia Dortmund, and Fluminense. 'I always knew that I would make the squad and it's not about being arrogant but I feel that this is the work of the players that have been here two years ago when we qualified for the Club World Cup' Maema said. 'When you're still at the team, you just have to eat the fruits of the work that you put in. I'm happy that I made the squad and obviously it's disappointing for the ones that didn't make it but there's competition. 'This is a big club but I feel for them because they are my brothers but I'm also looking forward to the experience of the club world cup. I'm not going to mention anything about my future at the club because I'm still a Sundowns player.' Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has already laid down the challenge for the side to reach the last 16 of the expanded 32-team tournament. Maema is also eager to make an impression on the world stage and prove his worth in a tournament that could shape the next chapter of many of the Sundowns players. 'We had a couple of days off to recuperate to make sure that we gather our thoughts and just look forward because this is another adventure,' Maema concluded.
