Former SEBI chief Madhabi Puri Buch gets clean chit from Lokpal; No credible evidence from complainants
The complaints alleged corruption and quid pro quo involving the former SEBI chief and the Adani Group.
The Lokpal in its findings stated that it found 'no credible evidence' of any 'undue advantage' or 'quid pro quo'.
The findings further said that SEBI's processes, including investigations involving Adani and others, were upheld by the Supreme Court and handled by independent institutional mechanisms.
The Lokpal asserted that the past investments and consultancy incomes were adequately disclosed, legitimate, and outside the scope of corruption statutes and the report of Hindenburg, a known short-seller, was not deemed reliable or sufficient to base a corruption case.
The Lokpal order affirms that the allegations of regulatory favouritism involving the Adani Group were 'completely baseless.'
In its order, the Lokpal viewed the Hindenburg Report as an 'unreliable' and 'partisan' document authored by a known short-seller.
In its report published in August 2024, US-based short seller Hindenburg Research made allegations against Madhavi Puri Buch, accusing her of a conflict of interest.
Hindenburg Research had also alleged that SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband Dhaval Buch had stakes in 'both the obscure offshore entities used in the Adani money siphoning scandal.'
SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband Dhaval Buch had termed the allegations labelled against them as 'false, incorrect, malicious and motivated'.
The Adani Group had also termed the allegations as malicious, mischievous, and manipulative selections of publicly available information to arrive at pre-determined conclusions for 'personal profiteering with wanton disregard for facts and the law.'
It is publicly known that Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra and former IPS officer Amitabh Thakur had filed complaints with the Lokpal, seeking a probe into the former SEBI chief's case. (ANI)

Nearly half of posts in UP Pollution Control Board vacant, shows RTI reply
Almost half the sanctioned posts in the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) are lying vacant, raising concerns over the functioning of the state's pollution watchdog. According to information furnished by the UPPCB in response to an RTI query, the board has a sanctioned strength of 732 posts as of August 1, 2025. Of these, 355 -- nearly 49 per cent -- are vacant. While the sanctioned staff strength spans across Group A, B, C and D, the board informed that requisitions have been sent to the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission for filling 115 vacant Group C posts, with the process still underway. The query with the UPPCB was filed by Noida-based environment and social activist Amit Gupta under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005. On recruitment, the UPPCB said that between July 2024 and July 2025, it had issued appointment orders to 42 selected junior engineers, though only 28 have formally joined. During the same period, 41 employees, including staff from the Noida regional office, retired. The RTI reply also noted that details about compliance with the Supreme Court's direction to fill vacancies by September 30, 2025, could not be shared, as the matter is sub judice before the apex court and the National Green Tribunal. Gupta said that with almost one in every two posts lying vacant, the board's ability to effectively monitor air and water pollution across Uttar Pradesh is severely constrained. "UPCCB has a massive shortage of staff, including at its Noida office has just five to six staff to manage one of the most polluted cities. Despite clear, time-bound orders from the Supreme Court and the NGT, a severe staff shortage persists. I hope this issue is taken seriously," Gupta told PTI. Jupiter to set up solar cell unit in Butibori
Nagpur : The Vidarbha region is steadily emerging as a sustainable energy hub, with more companies showing interest in setting up units—particularly in Nagpur. After Avadaa and Waaree, West Bengal-based Jupiter International Limited is planning to establish a solar cell manufacturing facility in the additional Butibori industrial area. The company is looking to invest ₹15,000 crore in the sustainable energy sector, and its Nagpur unit is expected to further accelerate the region's growth. Apart from Jupiter, JSW Group and Anil Ambani-led Reliance Industries are also exploring solar panel manufacturing facilities in Nagpur, according to sources. The state industries department is already in talks with Jupiter International to set up a solar cell manufacturing unit, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is likely to be signed soon. If finalised, this will be the company's first plant in Maharashtra. While Avadaa Group has begun operations, Waaree Group is set to hold a groundbreaking ceremony within the next fortnight. Jupiter International, meanwhile, already operates a solar photovoltaic cell manufacturing unit at Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, with an overall capacity of 800 MW, including a 500 MW mono PERC solar cell facility. As per its website, the company aims to become a 10 GW vertically integrated solar power entity. In Nagpur, the company is expected to be allotted 250 acres of land by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). At the same time, the state government is in discussions with a defence manufacturer planning to invest ₹12,000 crore in a drone manufacturing facility. An MoU with the company is also expected soon, sources added. Much like renewable energy, Vidarbha is also emerging as an aviation hub. Reliance Infrastructure Limited (RAL), led by Anil Ambani, has announced plans to manufacture Falcon Jets at its joint venture facility with France's Dassault. Ammunition maker Solar Group has also proposed setting up a unit to produce unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). "The influx of multiple industries in the region is expected to boost ancillarisation, ultimately benefiting local MSMEs," said Nitin Lonkar, president of the Butibori Manufacturers Association (BMA).
