Rachakonda Police bust interstate horse betting racket, arrest four

Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Special Operations Team (SOT) Malkajgiri and Jawahar Nagar police today, Sunday, arrested four persons who were allegedly involved in organising an interstate horse betting racket. The police seized Rs 2 lakh in cash and froze a bank account with an amount of Rs 2.47 lakh.
The arrested persons were Thakala Nagesh (45), Barra Venkaiah Chowdhary (45), Challa Ramesh Babu (48), and D Sunil (55). Two other individuals, M Rajesh Kumar and Venkat Chowdhary, are absconding.
According to police, Nagesh, a native of Andhra Pradesh, was organising the horse betting with the help of Venkat and Rajesh.A Ramana Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Malkajgiri, said, 'Nagesh created a WhatsApp group 'Shinewell Enterprises' and added 105 persons who were participating in the betting.'
During the investigation, it was found that the gang had carried out transactions totalling Rs 8.34 crore. A case has been booked against the accused under section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 344 of the Telangana Gaming Act. Police were able to seize Rs 2 lakh cash from their possession and also froze bank accounts related to the racket containing Rs 2,47,000. Efforts are being made to apprehend the absconding accused persons.

The administration cancelled the application on August 4 and registered a first information report at the Samastipur cyber police station on Wednesday (August 6, 2025). 'First of all, the revenue officer of the block showed alertness in this case. After thoroughly investigating the application, recognising the erroneous facts and inconsistent documents in it, immediately informed the concerned senior officials and ensured legal action,' the office of the Samastipur District Magistrate said in a statement. The application was made in the name of 'Donald John Trump'. The father's name was mentioned as 'Frederick Christ Trump'. A photo of the U.S. President and a fake Aadhaar card were also attached to the application. 'The administration took it seriously and immediately registered a case under Sections 318 (4) and 336 (4) (forgery and fraud in documents) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 66 (c) and 66 (d) (electronic identity theft and online fraud) of the Information Technology Act, 2000,' the statement said. The District Magistrate's office warned that 'the use of fake documents in government services is completely unacceptable'. 'The district administration will ensure strict legal action by adopting a 'zero tolerance' policy on such acts. Through this action, the message has also been given that transparency, truth and security are paramount in the digital system of government services,' it said. It further said, 'It has also been clarified that if any act done on social media with the intention of joke or sensation is linked to the government process, then it will be considered a serious crime and the culprit will be punished.' Fake names Recently, applications were received in rural Patna and Nawada in the name of 'dog babu', and 'dogesh babu', respectively. In East Champaran district, an application was received in the name of 'Sonalika tractor', with the photograph of a Bhojpuri actor. The administration has appealed to citizens to use only true and authentic documents for any type of government certificate or service. 'Any kind of deliberate wrong information or fraud can lead to application rejection as well as criminal prosecution. This incident has presented a strong example with the combination of administrative alertness, role of women officers and technical efficiency that the government system is now not only digital, but also vigilant, accountable and legally vigilant,' it said in the press statement.

Hyderabad: An IT employee from the city lost Rs 67 lakh to cyber fraudsters who ran a crypto investment scam through a fake website. The 39-year-old IT professional from Langer Houz alleged that he encountered cryptocurrency investment advertisements on Instagram. Upon clicking the link, he was added to Telegram and WhatsApp groups, where administrators advised him to invest in crypto trading through their portal in July 2024. The fraudsters utilised fake dashboards to demonstrate that the victim had made significant profits on his investments. The victim used his savings and obtained loans to transfer over Rs 67 lakh within a year through hundreds of UPI transfers to bank accounts in Karnataka, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Gujarat, and Himachal Pradesh. But bank accounts to which the amounts were transferred by the fraudsters were all blocked as the amounts were proceeds of the crime,' a cybercrime official said. Immediately after the victim initiated withdrawals, the accused abruptly deleted their social media groups and disabled the weblink in the first week of July. The victim also realised that his bank account, into which money had been credited by the fraudsters, was frozen on instructions from the Bengaluru cybercrime police. 'Not just my bank account, but even those of my wife and brother, to whom I had transferred some money, were also frozen by police, causing EMI defaults and credit-score damage,' the complaint stated. After trying to unsuccessfully re-establish communication with the fraudsters and talking to bank representatives about freezed accounts, the victim approached police on August 5. 'I also request you to unfreeze the three bank accounts,' the victim stated in his complaint on Tuesday. On his complaint, a case was registered under Sections 111(2)(b) (organised crime), 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 319(2) (cheating by personation), 336(3) (forgery for purpose of cheating), 338 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), and 340(2) (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of the BNS and the IT Act.
