These two feisty players will serve as European vice captains for 2026 Solheim Cup
European Solheim Cup captain Anna Nordqvist has announced two vice captains for the 2026 edition at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands. Sweden's Caroline Hedwall and England's Mel Reid will join Nordqvist in leading Team Europe on Sept. 7-13.
'I have known Caroline and Mel since I was 13 and 17 years old, as such I've had the pleasure of playing alongside them for my whole career," said Nordqvist in a release. "We have had many good memories as teammates and as friends, so I am delighted to have them by my side as we take on a new challenge in our golfing careers as captains in the Netherlands. They are both very experienced Solheim Cup players, fiercely competitive and fantastic teammates, and I know Team Europe will be stronger having them on board. I look forward to navigating the next stage of the 2026 Solheim Cup journey with them.'
Reid, 37, won the 2020 ShopRite LPGA Classic and is a six-time winner on the LET. She's represented Europe at the Solheim on four occasions (2011, 2015, 2017 and 2021) and served as a vice captain in 2019 and 2024.
'If the Solheim Cup is happening, I want to be there for Europe in whatever way I can contribute," said Reid. "Some of my fondest core memories have been during a Solheim Cup week and in that European team room. I am honored that Anna asked me to be one of her vice captains. I know she is going to be an amazing captain, and I am so happy that I will be there to support her and the team and to help in any way to make Anna and the team successful.'
Hedwall, 35, has represented Europe five times, becoming the first player to win five matches in a single Solheim Cup in 2013. At the 2023 Solheim Cup, Hedwall delivered one of the most riveting stretches of golf in Solheim Cup history when she roared back against Ally Ewing with five birdies on her last six holes, helping Europe retain the cup.
While she never won the LPGA, Hedwall is a seven-time winner on the LET and was that tour's Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in 2011.
'I was so thrilled when Anna invited me to be one of her vice captains in 2026 as the Solheim Cup has definitely provided many of the most important moments of my career," said Hedwall. "Anna and I have shared so many experiences, both on tour and on European teams together, that I feel like we are very aligned in our thinking on how to help ensure the European team is able to perform at its best. I think, together with Mel, we really understand each other and are all very feisty competitors so I am sure we are going to work very well together for the good of our team.'

Liverpool Midfielder Signs New Contract
Luca Stephenson Commits Future to Liverpool and Heads Back to Dundee United Liverpool midfielder Luca Stephenson has signed a new contract with the club and will continue his development with a season-long loan at Dundee United. The 21-year-old, known for his versatility in midfield and defence, enjoyed a breakthrough year in Scotland and will return to Tannadice Park for the 2025-26 campaign. Breakthrough Season in Scotland Stephenson's first spell at Dundee United in 2024-25 proved a turning point. He played 34 matches, scored three goals, and was instrumental in helping the club secure fourth place in the Scottish Premiership, earning them a place in European competition. His performances were recognised with the Young Player of the Season award, cementing his reputation as one of the league's most promising young talents. Arriving at Liverpool from Sunderland at Under-15 level, Stephenson is yet to make his senior competitive debut for the Reds. However, he featured in four pre-season friendlies this summer under Arne Slot, gaining valuable minutes alongside the first-team squad. Slot, who led Liverpool to the Premier League title in his first season in charge, is expected to keep a close watch on Stephenson's progress. Previous First-Team Experience The midfielder's first exposure to senior football came in 2023-24 during a loan spell at Barrow in League Two. That experience laid the groundwork for his successful move to Dundee United, where he adapted quickly to the physical and tactical demands of the Scottish top flight. Stephenson first signed professional terms with Liverpool in 2020. His decision to extend his contract reflects both the club's belief in his potential and his own commitment to breaking into the senior squad in the future. Targeting Further Growth at Dundee United Speaking after securing the deal, Stephenson expressed his enthusiasm for another year in Scotland. While the new contract ensures his long-term future is at Liverpool, the focus for now is on building on last season's progress with Dundee United. The club's qualification for European competition adds an extra challenge and opportunity for the young midfielder to test himself at a higher level. With Liverpool's midfield options deep and competitive, a season of regular football in a demanding environment could prove crucial. Stephenson's return to Tannadice offers Dundee United a player already proven in their system, and it gives Liverpool a clearer picture of how he performs under pressure.

Savannah TV station apparently made that Michael Penix Jr. typo (yes, THAT one)
On its face, Michael Penix Jr.'s name is pretty straightforward. A seven-letter first name. A five-letter last name. And he's the second of his name, behind his father, Michael Penix Sr. There aren't many consonants and vowels oriented next to each other in a confusing fashion. There are no silent letters or aspects that need special pronunciation. His name sounds, more or less, exactly as it reads. This isn't Chance the Rapper (justifiably) struggling with the names of some European hockey players. Penix's name really shouldn't be tripping anyone up. As an information-delivering organization focused on accuracy above all else, it should be easy not to mess up the full name of a professional athlete like this. However, there's ONE (somewhat) suggestive typo you don't want to make with the Atlanta Falcons' quarterback's name. If you think for longer than five seconds about this, I think you know what I'm talking about, as I can't make a direct reference to it on an ostensible family website. MORE NFL SUMMER: Matthew Stafford is overthinking his back injury like typical 30-something And, uh ... about that. While highlighting Wednesday's Falcons training camp practice in its evening broadcast, Savannah news station WTOC apparently made this unfortunate and way-too-obvious phallic typo with Penix's name in a chyron. Sigh. This is why you proofread your work with a fine comb before making it available for public consumption, dearest readers: (NSFW content below, quite obviously.) Oh. Oh, NO. If it makes the good people at WTOC feel better about this error, this genuinely could've happened to anyone. We're all human. I guess if you say Penix's name fast to yourself, you could likely even hear the misinterpretation of his last name without even realizing you're saying it. Nonetheless, now they've gotta take their lumps. Them's the breaks.

Two exciting teams who are aiming to be the 'best of the rest' in the Premier League meet at the Amex on Saturday as Brighton host Fulham. WATCH — Brighton v Fulham The Seagulls just missed out on European qualification last season as their streaky campaign was very promising under young head coach Fabian Hurzeler. They lost key forward Joao Pedro this summer and have big clubs sniffing around other players such as Carlos Baleba, but Brighton's recruitment strategy continues to impress and they look set to push for a top six finish and have the advantage over their rivals of not having European action to juggle. The same is true for Marco Silva's Fulham who were in the hunt for Europe right until the end of last season but then they faded. Fulham have kept the core of their squad together and although they've not added a big name so far this summer, the Cottagers look set for another season of pushing for Europe.
