Oasis fans pour into streets of Dublin ahead of historic Croke Park concert

Daily Mirror2 days ago
Continuing their much-awaited reunion tour, Oasis hit Dublin on Saturday and Sunday night where 80,000 fans will pile into the city's Croke Park stadium to see the 90s icons in action
Dublin City is 'buzzing' as Oasis return to Ireland for the first time in 16 years. Tens of thousands of the band's fans have descended on the Irish capital for the first of their two sold-out gigs at the country's largest stadium.

Croke Park will host the Britpop icons this weekend, where they will perform for 80,000 music fans over the weekend. Just in time for the country's heatwave, revellers will bask in the sun, soundtracked by the 90s stars for the Irish leg of their reunion tour.

Although they need no encouragement, concert-goers have been advised by health officials to wear their bucket hats to protect them from the sun. High UV levels are expected as Dublin enjoys warm and dry weather on Saturday and Sunday. It comes after Paul Weller reveals the unusual reason he refuses to watch Oasis concerts.

Marking the band's first gig in the country since 2009, the Dublin gigs will hold a special meaning for once-feuding brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher. The Mancunian brothers have spoken about their ties to Ireland through their Irish-born parents, Peggy and Thomas.
Sarah and Neil Charlton travelled from Southampton to see the band, after a determined search for standing tickets saw them clinching access in Dublin. Mr Charlton said they have both been waiting a long time to see the band reunite – having seen Oasis multiple times before their extended hiatus.
He told the PA news agency: 'We thought: what a great city to come to and see the gig and have a couple of nights out in Dublin.' He added: 'It's just so nostalgic – all the songs and all the music from when we were growing up. When we first started seeing each other, we went to a gig and so it's always been a part of our lives together.'
Oasis were also a huge part of Lisa and Alan Roe's love story too, who said their love of the band dates back to when they got married in the 1990s. Mr Roe said: 'Because the two of them are after getting back together after so many years, to be able to sell out a world tour the way they did – and their music going back to the late 80s and 90s.

'That brings an aura about in everybody and a buzz and the memories of growing up in Dublin with them – it's absolutely out of this world.'
Sinead Millea from Kilkenny is also making her way to Croke Park for the gig, having previously seen the band in Limerick in 1996. She said: 'Maybe we're all going through a bit of a midlife crisis – I turned 50 this year, and look, Noel and Liam, they're in their 50s as well.

'And maybe things just dawned on them that life is too short and just, let's put grievances to bed. They seem to be getting on great, and it's fabulous.
"And at the end of the day, music transcends everything, and we're all here to enjoy a brilliant night and to share it with the people that mean the most. It's just amazing. The weather is fabulous and it's a brilliant venue.'

The support acts for the Dublin dates are Richard Ashcroft from The Verve and Cast, formed by John Power after he left The La's. The setlist has crowd-pleasing hits such as Cigarettes And Alcohol and Wonderwall.
Fans have also been treated to favourites including Acquiesce, Some Might Say and Morning Glory – before a Don't Look Back In Anger, Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova crescendo. Oasis announced their reunion tour in August last year, 16 years after their dramatic split in 2009, when Noel quit after a backstage brawl at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris.
The highly anticipated 41-date run has already seen the band play Cardiff, Manchester, London and Edinburgh. They will then take the tour global, playing in major cities across the US, Canada, Mexico, Australia and Japan.

The Jam drummer Rick Buckler left eye-watering sum to his wife and children in will before his tragic death aged 69

THE Jam drummer Rick Buckler left a massive £1million to his wife, documents show. The legendary Mod musician, who played alongside Paul Weller and Bruce Foxton in the rock band, passed a huge fortune to his family after he died in February aged 69. 6 6 6 Documents obtained by The Sun show he passed £1,035,366 to his wife Lesley and his two children. The sum was reduced by £18,000 after costs, taxes and fees, with his will signed off by the High Court last week. He made the will in October 2024 and passed almost everything to Lesley, whom he married in 1985. The drummer asked that his Jam memorabilia collection be distributed between his two children, Jason and Holly. Rick passed £1,000 to his brother Peter, £5,000 to Sham 69 singer Tim Scargill, and £1,000 to pal Ian Gardner. He also expressed a wish to be cremated and interred at Woking Cemetery. Rick was The Jam's drummer from its formation in the early 1970s through to its break-up in the early 1980s. His bandmates Weller and Foxton led tributes after his death from a short illness. Weller, 67, wrote: 'I'm shocked and saddened by Rick's passing. 'I'm thinking back to us all rehearsing in my bedroom in Stanley Road, Woking. 'To all the pubs and clubs we played at as kids, to eventually making a record.' 'What a journey! We went far beyond our dreams and what we made stands the test of time.' Bruce, 69, added: 'I was shocked and devastated to hear the very sad news today. Rick was a good guy and a great drummer whose innovative drum patterns helped shape our songs. 'I'm glad we had the chance to work together as much as we did. My thoughts are with Leslie and his family at this very difficult time.' The Jam formed in 1972 while all three band members were secondary school pals. They released their first album, In the City, in 1977 and racked up 18 consecutive top 40 songs, including four number one singles and a number one album. They are best known for tracks Town Called Malice, Going Underground and Down In The Tube Station At Midnight. The band split in 1982 and never fully reunited, with Weller forming The Style Council and Bucker joining Time UK in the same year. Foxton and Buckler later played together, though they were never able to convince Weller, who also built a steady solo career, to rejoin. Buckler toured with Foxton as 'From The Jam' 2007 to 2009 before leaving and working in music management until his death. 6 6 6

Strictly's Dianne Buswell shares costly error after time away from boyfriend Joe Sugg Strictly pro Dianne Buswell was left 'absolutely fuming' after suffering the consequences of a mistake she made whilst her boyfriend Joe Sugg was away from home Dianne Buswell has been talking about what happened to her when Joe was away from home (Image: Getty) Professional dancer Dianne Buswell has admitted she made a costly error whilst her partner, YouTuber Joe Sugg, was away on holiday. Dianne, 36, and Joe, 33, found love after meeting on Strictly Come Dancing in 2018. ‌ Since then, they have been inseparable and, in recent years, have talked about starting a family together in the future. ‌ However, that isn't all that has been discussed, as Australian-born Dianne told her 2024 Strictly partner, comedian Chris McCausland, about the ordeal she went through when Joe went away on holiday. ‌ Speaking about how often she drives on the 'Winning Isn't Everything with Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell' podcast, Dianne admitted to co-host Chris that she had received some parking tickets. She explained: 'The thing is, Joe normally takes me to the station in the morning, but he's been away fishing, caught his biggest fish that he ever has, and so he wasn't home. So I've had to drive my car to the station and leave it there. 'But what happens is, I get distracted, right, when I get out my car, got so many things on my mind that I forget to pay for the parking. And then, when I get back, I have a notice on my car, and it's happened two days in a row and I'm absolutely fuming about it.' Article continues below 'It is entirely my own fault. You know when you just see that little sticker on your car and you think, 'Oh God, here we go, there's another one, just throw that money away Di'.' She said: 'We've always wanted kids, it's just finding the right time. I don't feel worried about taking time out from dancing, I just don't see the point in worrying. 'When everything aligns, it will happen. I have to have that vision. I like to practise manifestation, I'm quite spiritual.' ‌ Dianne Buswell and Joe Sugg have been dating for over five years Dianne added that because she is relaxed about planning her future with Joe, she can focus more on her career. She said: 'I plan my work a lot, but that's probably as far as I go with planning. I'm quite an unorganised person actually. Article continues below 'Joe and I don't really talk about that kind of thing. We're both so relaxed so we just play it by ear. We really enjoy each other's company so much and whatever happens, happens." Joe Sugg is appearing on Richard Osman's House of Games tonight (August 18) on BBC Two at 6pm.
