LPA inside PAR is now Tropical Depression Huaning

The low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has developed into a tropical depression at 2 a.m. on Monday and was named Huaning, PAGASA said. At 4 a.m., Huaning's center was estimated to be located at 520 km east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, the weather bureau said in its 5 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin. Huaning has maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and central pressure of 1008 hPa. The tropical depression is moving north northwestward at 10 km/h. From Huaning's center, strong winds are extending outwards up to 270 km. No tropical cyclone wind signals (TCWS) were raised. "HUANING is unlikely to directly affect the country within the next 48 hours," PAGASA said. The Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan however will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms on Monday due to trough or extension of Huaning. Flash floods or landslides may result due to moderate to at times heavy rains. Up to moderate seas (up to 2.0 m) will be experienced in the following areas on Monday: • the seaboards of Batanes; the northern and western seaboards of Babuyan Islands; the northwestern and western seaboards of Ilocos Norte; and the western seaboards of Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, Lubang Island, and Palawan. "Mariners of motor bancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions," PAGASA said. Huaning is expected to move northward until Monday night then turn north northeastward on Tuesday early morning toward Ryukyu Islands in Japan. It is forecast to exit PAR between late Monday evening and Tuesday morning. PAGASA will issue the next tropical cyclone bulletin at 11 a.m. Habagat, localized thunderstorms Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Palawan. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may occur. The rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides may possibly result during severe thunderstorms. Coastal waters in the western section of Luzon will be moderate, then slight to moderate in the rest of the country. LPA inside PAR has ‘medium' chance of turning into storm — PAGASA

The low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a 'medium' chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, PAGASA said Sunday afternoon. At 3 p.m., the LPA was located 585 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes. For now, its trough is expected to affect the weather conditions of Ilocos Region, Apayao, Cagayan, Zambales, and Bataan, according to the state weather bureau's 4 p.m. weather forecast. Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will persist over Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan due to the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat). Meanwhile, the rest of the country will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. Residents of affected areas were warned against flash floods or landslides. Meanwhile, the LPA observed outside PAR has a 'high' chance of turning into a storm, PAGASA said At 2 p.m., it was located at 1,010 km west of Northern Luzon. State meteorologists also said the western sections of Luzon will experience moderate wind and coastal water conditions. Winds will be light to moderate, while coastal waters will be slight to moderate throughout the rest of the country. Sunrise in Metro Manila will be at 5:43 a.m. on Monday. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News

LPA trough, Habagat to bring scattered rains over parts of Luzon

The Southwest Monsoon will bring scattered rains over Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon on Sunday, August 17, 2025. JOAHNA LEI CASILAO/GMA Integrated News/File photo The trough of a low pressure area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring scattered rains over parts of Luzon on Sunday, PAGASA said. Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of the LPA. Moderate to at times heavy rains may possibly result in flash floods or landslides. This LPA, whose trough or extension is affecting the western sections of Northern and Central Luzon, is outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday morning. "Mababa ang tsansa nito na maging bagyo at mababa rin ang tsansa nitong pumasok ng PAR," she said. (It has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression and its chance of entering PAR is also low.) Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon is affecting the western part of Southern Luzon. Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan may expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Habagat. Flash floods or landslides may possibly result due to moderate to at times heavy rains. The rest of the country on the other hand will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may result. Coastal waters will be moderate in the western section of Luzon, and slight to moderate in the rest of the country.
