Guwahati: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma pointed out the state's proximity to the Golden Triangle, a notorious region for drug trafficking Flagging off the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drugs Free India Campaign) in Aizawl, the Chief Minister said that this geographical location has led to the frequent inflow of drugs into the state.He also urged communities to be vigilant and united in their stand against drug abuse, ensuring that Mizo society remains protected from such harmful influences.Lalduhoma encouraged young people to abstain entirely from drugs, warning that even occasional use is the first step towards addiction.He further called on those already trapped in addiction to courageously step away and rebuild their lives.As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (Drugs Free India Campaign), the Mizoram State Level and Aizawl District Level programmes were organised in Aizawl, featuring a 'Rally – Fight Against Drugs' with the participation of over 600 students from various schools and colleges.Two starting points were designated -- Chanmari and Sikulpuikawn -- from where the rally proceeded to converge at Lammual, where the main programme was held.The Chief Minister flagged off the participants from Chanmari and joined them in the walk to Lammual.The campaign focuses primarily on creating awareness about the harmful effects of drug use and preventing first-time users from starting. The rally in Aizawl was organised as part of the 5th anniversary of the campaign.

VPA administers mass pledge against drug abuse
Visakhapatnam: The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment is commemorating the fifth anniversary of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), a flagship initiative aimed at building a society free from substance abuse. As part of the nationwide campaign, Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) observed a mass pledge against drug abuse on August 13th (Wednesday). VPA heads of departments, officers and employees, participated in large numbers, reaffirming their commitment to a drug-free society. The pledge ceremony highlighted the importance of collective action in combating substance abuse and promoting healthy lifestyles. The ongoing NMBA campaign that continues till August 31 aims to reach out to 3 crore people through both physical and online modes, with a special emphasis on activities. The objectives of the campaign is to celebrate milestones achieved so far, duly engaging stakeholders, youth in particular, to strengthen anti-drug initiatives, reinforce the message of maintaining a drug-free society through impactful story-telling, performances, continued advocacy and community-driven action. Speaking on the occasion, chairperson of VPA M Angamuthu informed that VPA is committed to supporting the nation's efforts in creating a healthier and drug addiction-free nation and in this context informed that VPA has conducted an awareness campaign at CEMS and IMU, where students in large number participated.

Drug abuse big threat to nation's progress: Mandya DC
Mandya: Drug abuse is one of the gravest threats to the nation's progress, and everyone must shun narcotics to combat this menace, said deputy commissioner Kumara. He was speaking after inaugurating the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – 2025 programme organised by the district police department at the MIMS auditorium here on Wednesday. Kumara stressed that preventing youth from consuming drugs and rehabilitating addicts is a collective social responsibility. "A significant proportion of crimes today are linked to substance abuse. Freeing society from drugs is a joint responsibility of both the public and the police," he said. Kumara urged students to take the lead in reforming peers, family members, and neighbours who have fallen into bad habits. "Human life is sacred—do not destroy it for momentary pleasures," he advised, calling on youth to adopt ethical values and build strong personalities that serve society. Superintendent of police Mallikarjun Baladandi said many youth and workers ruin their futures through addiction. The Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, launched by the Union govt in 2020, aims to educate students in schools, colleges, and universities about the dangers of drug use. The Narcotics Bureau is also working nationwide to rehabilitate addicts, he added. Later, zilla panchayat CEO KR Nandini administered an oath to students pledging to stay away from substance abuse. MIMS director Dr Narasimhaswamy, additional superintendent of police Gangadhar Swamy, MIMS college principal Dr Hanumanth Prasad, and District Tobacco Control Cell officer Thimmaraju were also present.
