Dearborn police offer $20,000 reward in road rage shooting that killed 19-year-old
A $20,000 reward is being offered for any information that may lead to an arrest in connection to a road rage incident that took the life of a young woman in Dearborn in February.
"She was a young woman with so much promise, whose future was stolen in an instant," said Chief Issa Shahin, Dearborn Police Department.
Through tears, the family of 19-year-old Rawan Baseti shared how losing their daughter and sister has left a painful wound in their lives.
"To say that my family and I are devastated or heartbroken is an understatement," said Hani Baseti.
"Losing Rawan is me losing my whole life; that's my heart," said Serein Baseti.
Investigators say Baseti was driving a black 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee near the intersection of Tireman Avenue and West Morrow Circle in Dearborn on Feb. 21 around 9:45 p.m. when the driver of a white 2015 Chrysler 200 allegedly cut her off.
That is when police say Baseti then followed the car onto Tireman Avenue and Southfield Service Drive in an attempt to get a license plate number.
As both cars reached the intersection, the Chrysler turned onto Cheyenne Street and fired several gunshots.
One of the bullets went through Baseti's windshield, killing her.
While announcing the reward, Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin encouraged people to speak up.
"I am confident that someone out there has some information that could be the key to solving this case. Rawan and her family deserve justice now," said Shahin.
Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud underlined the need for the public's help and offered the city's continued support.
"The commitment of this city, with the support of this police department, is to deploy every resource and asset that we have to bring the perpetrators to justice," said Hammoud.
Baseti's family hopes that by sharing her story, others can avoid a similar tragedy.
"He stole Rawan's future, and he stole her from us. We urge anyone who's seen anything or heard anything to speak up so that my beautiful baby sister could get the rest she deserves," said Hani Baseti.

The clip, released by police Tuesday night, shows both perps wearing baseball caps – one carrying an Amazon box and the other wearing a bright-yellow vest – as they casually strolled down the quiet Whitestone block Monday morning. An unsuspecting 43-year-old man answered the door of the single-family home on 12th Avenue near 152nd Street around 7:40 a.m. Monday, before the perps rushed inside – one armed with a gun, authorities said. 3 One of the suspects can be seen toting an Amazon box, and the other wearing a bright yellow vest. NYPD They then forced the family – also including two women, 39 and 18, and two boys, 10 and 5 – into the basement, cops said. The money-hungry fiends tied up the victims and stretched duct tape over their mouths before they ransacked the home, swooping up about $16,000, jewelry, and electronic devices, police said. The brazen duo used the victim's own car, a silver Chrysler minivan, as the getaway vehicle. The car was found abandoned two blocks away, police said. 3 The crew forced the family — including three kids, 5, 10 and 18 — into the basement, cops said. NYPD Witness John Nardone told FreedomNewsTV at the time that he had just climbed out of his car to get to work when he saw the terrified father running out of the house tugging at duct tape on his face. Person of interest in Inkster homicide case may have been found in Florida, police say
Police are pursuing a lead for the location of a person of interest in a 2023 homicide case out of Inkster, Michigan. The Inkster Police Department reported Tuesday they are working with detectives from the Fort Myers Police Department in Florida to obtain DNA samples from the man in question. Once obtained, the evidence will be sent to a forensic laboratory for comparison and analysis. If the DNA is a match to the Michigan case under review, Inkster will request an extradition. The victim of the Inkster homicide was a 34-year-old man whose body was found in a garage. "We are committed to doing everything in our power to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible are held accountable," Police Chief Taika Jenkins said.
