Gold prices fall on Trump trade news

Gold prices dropped on Monday after U.S. President Donald Trump signalled progress on multiple trade agreements and announced extended tariff reprieves for several countries, dampening demand for the safe-haven metal.
Spot gold fell 0.7% to $3,311.09 per ounce as of 0626 GMT. U.S. gold futures lost 0.7% to $3,320.30.
The U.S. is close to finalising several trade agreements in the coming days and will notify other countries of higher tariff rates by July 9, Trump said on Sunday, with the higher rates scheduled to take effect on August 1.
In April, Trump announced a 10% base tariff on most nations, with additional duties of up to 50%, before postponing the effective date for all but 10% of those tariffs until July 9. The new date now grants a three-week reprieve.
'This short-term reprieve (by the U.S.) is causing this intraday weakness in the gold price right now,' OANDA senior market analyst Kelvin Wong said.
'What I foresee will be another round of so-called trophy price movement at around the $3,320 level, then we have the top side coming in at $3,360, short-term resistance.'
Meanwhile, Trump said the U.S. will impose an additional 10% tariff on countries that align themselves with the 'Anti-American policies' of the BRICS group of developing nations, without clarifying or expanding on the 'Anti-American policies'.
Concerns of tariff-driven inflation have led to expectations of slower Federal Reserve rate cuts. Rate futures show traders no longer expect a Fed cut this month and are pricing in a total of just two quarter-point reductions by the year-end. USDIRPR/
Last week, Trump signed into law a massive package of tax and spending cuts at the White House, which, per nonpartisan analysis, will add more than $3 trillion to the country's $36.2 trillion debt.
Spot silver fell 0.9% to $36.58 per ounce, platinum shed 2.4% to $1,358.62 and palladium lost 1.9% to $1,113.23.

Mohammed Reza Naqdi, IRGC Deputy Commander For Coordination: 'If Any Grand Ayatollah Is Harmed, No American Will Leave The Region Alive'

In a June 28, 2025 interview with the Iranian broadcasting authority, Mohammed Reza Naqdi, IRGC deputy commander for coordination, warned that if there is any harm to, or attempt to harm, any Iranian grand ayatollah, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, no American will leave the region alive. He added that all American "diplomats, military personnel, officials, and oil workers" in the region will be either killed or captured, and warned that even a mere threat would not go unanswered. He also called U.S. President Donald Trump "stupid and moronic." Naqdi referred to statements by Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, the supreme Shi'ite authority and director of the Howza Al-Ilmiyya seminary in Najaf, Iraq, where he lives. Sistani had said on June 19, 2025 that any threat of assassination against the supreme religious and political leadership of Iran would have serious consequences for the entire region, including total loss of control and extensive chaos. This, Sistani said, would increase the suffering of the peoples of the region and gravely endanger the interests of all.[1] However, it is important to note that Sistani's statements were not a fatwa, which is binding, and also that they included no mention of either President Trump or the U.S. Senior Iranian officials are choosing to harness Sistani's words for their own purposes, as if he had indeed issued a fatwa. This is apparently so that Shi'ites in Iraq or elsewhere will take action against Americans in Iraq and the rest of the Middle East – as Iranian officials refrain from mentioning the fatwas against Trump issued by senior Iranian grand ayatollahs.[2] Naqdi (Source: Sepahnews, Iran, June 28m ,2025) It must also be clarified that neither President Trump nor any other American official has ever issued a direct threat to Shi'ite grand ayatollahs or against Khamenei, as Iran's supreme leader – that is, against neither religious nor political figures. Trump himself has said that he prevented an initiative to assassinate Khamenei. Also notable is that as of late June, Iranian ayatollahs and senior officials have issued fatwas stating that Trump's punishment is the same as that for a muhareb – an enemy of God and Islam who must be put to death.[3] The following are translated excerpts of Naqdi's statements in his June 28, 2025 interview: Saying that "Ayatollah Sistani published a statement in response to [Trump's] threats," Naqdi called President Trump "stupid and moronic," and said: "Because of his idiocy, Donald Trump has not grasped the meaning of the message of Grand Ayatollah Sistani, and he [Trump] has continued to reiterate his moronic threats." "I am conveying to him the exact meaning of this [Sistani's] message: Oh Donald Trump, hear and understand this: If any harm, even the smallest, comes to one of the Shi'ite grand juristprudents [ayatollahs], whether [the attempt] is successful or not, no American representative will leave the region alive, and all the [American] diplomats, military personnel, officials, and oil workers will be captured if they are not killed. A repeat of these moronic threats, even if they are not accompanied by [actual] deeds, will not go unanswered. Shut your mouth and sit down in your place, you rude person."[4] To view more excerpts from Naqdi's interview on MEMRI TV, click here or below:

Emirati Commentator: The UAE Views Hamas As A Real Threat To Regional Stability; The Release Of The Hostages In Gaza And An End To Hamas's Rule There Are Prerequisites For Advancing Peace In The Regio

On May 15, 2025, against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump's recent visit to the Gulf, including the UAE, Emirati Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed gave an interview to Fox News in which he called for the release of the Israeli hostages held by Hamas, for the formation of a government in Gaza that does not include this movement, and for the establishment of calm there.[1] Following this interview, Emirati political analyst Salem Al-Ketbi published an article highlighting the importance of bin Zayed's remarks and praising the UAE's policy, which he characterized as 'humane diplomacy' that combines moral and humanitarian considerations with strategic interests. Ketbi clarified that the UAE regards Hamas as a real threat to regional stability and to the peace plan, and that it clearly distinguishes between support for the Palestinian cause and support for Hamas. This distinction, he explained, reflects a deep understanding of the complexity of the Palestinian issue and presents a new model for addressing it, one that will ensure an exit from the cycle of conflict toward horizons of peace and stability. Hamas militant hides behind a Gazan civilian who holds a sign saying "Hamas does not represent us…" ( March 27, 2025) The following are translated excerpts from Al-Ketbi's article:[2] "Is the [delivery of] Emirati humanitarian aid to Gaza merely a rescue operation, or does it reflect a comprehensive geopolitical strategy that goes beyond the humanitarian aspect and outlines characteristics of an active regional role? A close reading of the remarks made by UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Aal Nahyan in an interview he gave to Fox News a few days ago, on the occasion of U.S. President Donald Trump's historic visit to the UAE and the region, reveals a comprehensive strategic approach that reflects the official policy of the UAE. "Given during [Trump's visit to the Gulf], which had profound political and economic implications for the region, this interview clearly conveyed the UAE's official position at a pivotal moment in the region's history. The approach presented in it goes beyond the traditional perspective of humanitarian activity and establishes a humane diplomatic approach that combines moral considerations with strategic interests, reflecting the state's official stance toward the crisis in Gaza and the Palestinian issue. "Clearly revealing [its position] to all, the UAE has provided more than 42 percent of the international humanitarian aid to Gaza over the past two years. This remarkable figure raises a central question: What is the true motivation behind the UAE's exceptional commitment to the Palestinian issue in general and the Gaza crisis in particular?... The UAE's humanitarian aid is one of its most effective soft-power tools aimed at increasing its regional and international influence. This approach reflects a development in its strategic thinking, namely [the realization that] true power includes humane and cultural influence, not only military and economic influence. "Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed [also] presented a clear stance on Hamas, emphasizing that 'first, [we must] get the hostages out, we need calm in Gaza and we need an authority that is not Hamas that controls Gaza.' This clear position reflects a deep strategic approach to the internal Palestinian situation. The UAE's position on Hamas stems from a realistic assessment of the impact of this movement's rule in Gaza. The UAE views the Hamas model [of government] as a real threat to regional stability and to the comprehensive peace plan. On a principled level, the UAE clearly distinguishes between support for the Palestinian cause and support for Hamas. This precise distinction reflects a deep understanding of the complexity of the Palestinian reality and rises above the superficial view that reduces the issue to a single position. "The UAE's stance toward Hamas is clearly part of a broader vision of regional security, whose basis is the fight against extremism. The main challenge lies in the need to support the Palestinian people on the humanitarian level without strengthening Hamas's rule on the political level, and this is what the UAE has achieved through direct aid to the citizens. "Past experience shows that resolving complex crises requires finding a balance between humanitarian, political and security aspects. The UAE is pursuing this through its vision for the future of Gaza, which is based on three pillars: the release of the hostages, achieving calm, and establishing an active Palestinian rule [in Gaza]. The UAE clearly understands that the crisis in Gaza cannot be resolved through humanitarian aid alone; it requires addressing the root causes of the political and security problem. Therefore, its position on Hamas is tied to its broader outlook on the future of the region. "The Emirati approach combines principles with interests and wisely balances the humane commitment to the Palestinians with the preservation of regional security. This precise balance uniquely characterizes the Emirati diplomacy in addressing the Gaza crisis, and presents a new model for handling the Palestinian issue – one that goes beyond the options of [either] armed resistance or normalization for nothing, and establishes a path of 'active peace' that yields tangible results for the Palestinian people. "The Emirati approach undoubtedly represents a far-reaching turning point in Arab diplomacy: it moves beyond the traditional emotional discourse and employs pragmatic diplomacy anchored in tangible results rather than high-flown slogans. In its policy toward Gaza, the UAE works to position itself as an influential regional power capable of managing complex crises, and its evolving role combines humanitarian aid with informed diplomacy... "The Emirati approach to the Gaza crisis, as expressed by Sheikh bin Zayed, represents an advanced model of humane diplomacy that combines moral considerations with strategic interests. Despite the challenges, this model offers a promising path out of the cycle of conflict toward horizons of peace and stability."

Hamas–Israel talks in Doha end without progress as negotiations continue

Shafaq News – Doha Indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel concluded their second round in Doha on Monday with no breakthrough, though both sides are expected to resume talks later in the evening, a senior Palestinian official told AFP. A separate source confirmed that delegations from both Hamas and Israel will return to the table for another session Monday night in the Qatari capital. Contrary to speculation, Israel Hayom quoted an Israeli source denying reports that the talks had collapsed, stating that communication remains active through mediators. Palestinian sources cited by Reuters identified Israel's refusal to allow unrestricted humanitarian aid into Gaza as a key obstacle to progress in the latest round of negotiations hosted by Qatar. The talks, which began on Sunday, were launched following the submission of a new ceasefire proposal to both parties. According to informed sources, the proposal is based on a framework developed by US envoy Steve Witkoff.
