This 16-Seat Bar In Bangkok Has A Pop-Up Storybook Menu And Gem Cocktails

Inside the Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok is one of the city's most intriguing new drinking destinations: Ruby's, a 16-seat bar tucked behind velvet curtains on the hotel's ground floor where gem cocktails exist. Inspired by an emotional (but fictional!) love story and the raw beauty of gemstones, Ruby's is the prequel to the hotel's successful Ms.Jigger restaurant—and it's designed to feel both intimate and conceptual.
'We wanted to encourage a connection between the bartender and guest—a discovery experience,' says Shane Jameson, cluster director of sales and marketing for Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok and Sindhorn Midtown. You don't just order a drink; you engage in a conversation, you hear the story.'

The bar's design and menu revolve around a shattered romance—a woman who falls in love with an Italian gem trader and ends up betrayed. That story threads through each drink on the menu: 14 cocktails and two mocktails, each named after a gemstone and inspired by its meaning, mythology, or origin.
Jameson worked closely with the bar team and a Bangkok-based design agency to bring the 'dark fairytale' concept to life. 'We started with a gemology-themed menu and I wrote abstract interpretations for each one,' he says. 'We then enlisted the help of an extremely talented creative agency, who extracted my thoughts from my words and started to design each page, with different papers, types, pop-ups, and so on.'
To add substance, he brought in a geologist and a jewelry designer. 'One of my inspirations was a geologist, who kept me honest in where I wanted to take the stories,' he says. 'The other person I enlisted the help of, for inspiration, was a jewellery designer, who has also had the Ruby's experience.'
The drinks reflect the drama. 'The 'Ruby' cocktail, crafted with gin, jasmine, strawberry, pomegranate, and hibiscus, embodies this, down to the clinebell ice program shard in the glass, revealing the tip only—but the depth is quite apparent,' he says.
The Emerald, Jameson notes, portrays both envy and passion in every sip. 'It's a nod to wanting what we don't have, to Elphaba the wicked witch, and the look and feel of the pagination portrays snake skin notes.' For those terrified of durian, I suggest this cocktail as it has durian on the nose but not in the actual taste.
Chef Davide Caló designed an elevated food menu to match the cocktails' bold flavors. While the menu is called 'nibbles,' it's like a gastronomic journey where you can choose three, six or nine bites. 'The inspiration behind the menu came primarily from the cocktails themselves—their flavors, textures, and the creativity behind each one,' says Jameson.
Caló's favorite pairing is the scallop-wakame sesame salad with trout roe. 'It pairs perfectly with the Aquamarine cocktail—the flavors enhance each other beautifully, creating a fresh and elegant combination that just feels right," he says.
'Gemstones are very complex and have distinctive characteristics, just like our cocktails. Ruby's is meant to be a meaningful conversation, not just idle talk," says Jameson. Once

LA-based Jimmy Kimmel claims ‘there's no riot outside' as he blasts ‘mentally ill' Trump

Los Angeles-based comedian Jimmy Kimmel told his audience on Tuesday that 'there's no riots outside' and slammed 'mentally ill' President Donald Trump for deploying troops to quell what he claims is exaggerated unrest in the city. Trump sent over 700 Marines to Los Angeles in an effort to quash anti-ICE protests that have ravaged parts of the city on Tuesday. Images from L.A. showcase masked protesters blocking roads, destroying vehicles and engaging with police, while Mayor Karen Bass issued a curfew for a portion of the city's downtown area. Advertisement Kimmel mocked the media for portraying the anti-ICE protests as 'some kind of totalitarian hellscape' and condemned the Trump administration for deporting 'people who have lived here their whole lives.' 'You won't see this elsewhere on television. Not only is it not an apocalypse, they're having a Disney/Pixar movie premiere for 'Elio,' a movie about aliens. Don't tell Trump — he'll send in the Green Berets, too,' Kimmel ribbed. 'But I just want to say, thank God for President Trump and the heroes at ICE for protecting us from these bloodthirsty fruit stand vendors spreading their dangerous pineapple chunks and mangos with a squirt of lime all over the city.' 4 Kimmel mocked the media for portraying the anti-ICE protests as 'some kind of totalitarian hellscape.' ABC 4 Cars burn during a protest against federal immigration sweeps in downtown Los Angeles, California, U.S. June 8, 2025. REUTERS Advertisement The late-night host vented his anger towards the ICE raids in the city, claiming that the 'vast majority' of those being deported have 'never done anything wrong.' 'People who have lived here their whole lives, people who have been in this city longer than I have, the vast majority of whom have never done anything wrong, are being abducted, which is the correct word to use, by agents in masks, hiding their identities, grabbing people off the street and at work, sending people to detention centers,' he claimed. Kimmel asserted that it's not only Los Angelenos' right to protest the deportations, but it's their 'responsibility.' 4 U.S. President Donald Trump walks away after speaking to the media upon arrival at Joint Base Andrews following a visit to North Carolina, in Maryland, U.S., June 10, 2025. REUTERS Advertisement 'Los Angelenos gathered to demonstrate and, with very few exceptions, peacefully demonstrate to voice their opposition to this disgusting and unnecessary abuse of power instigated by our mentally ill president, who is dead-set on exacerbating this, who actually wants conflict, who is intentionally inflaming and lying to make it seem like there's a war going on,' he charged. Kimmel continued his criticism of the president and claimed that 'he wants there to be a war going on' in L.A. and doesn't care who gets hurt in the process. 'There's no riot outside,' Kimmel declared. 'We have more so-called 'unrest' here when one of our teams wins a championship.' 4 A protestor is detained in downtown Los Angeles, Sunday, June 8, 2025, following last night's immigration raid protest. AP Advertisement The host maintained that the media is exaggerating the violence taking place at the anti-ICE protests and argued that Trump exacerbated the unrest by sending in troops. 'Someone sets a fire in a garbage can, 12 camera crews go running toward it,' he asserted. 'Trump wants it to seem like anarchy, so he goes around our governor and calls in 4,000 troops from the National Guard and 700 active-duty Marines. When we had the wildfires that devastated big chunks of our city, he did absolutely nothing. Now that we're in the middle of a non-emergency, send in the National Guard!'

Originally appeared on E! Online Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper are happy in this modern world. Case in point: The supermodel and the A Star Is Born actor were in good spirits as they walked hand-in-hand to Il Mulino in New York City. While waiting outside the Italian restaurant, the couple—who have been dating since 2023—were seen sharing a laugh before hopping onto a FaceTime call with Bradley's longtime friend Will Arnett. For their date night, Gigi, 30, donned on a yellow dress and an oversized brown leather jacket. She accessorized her summery look with white socks and brown loafers. Meanwhile, Bradley, 50, kept it casual with a dark button-down top, matching pants and black boots. He completed his 'fit with sunglasses and a camouflage print baseball cap. But Will isn't the only the only famous figure who's friendly with the couple. After all, Gigi and Bradley have been on several outings with and boyfriend Travis Kelce, including to the singer's Eras Tour show in Paris last year. More from E! As she explained in a March interview with Vogue, "You want to give yourself a normal experience of dating and even for my friends who aren't public figures, that's hard." "Then there's another added layer of privacy and security," continued Gigi, who met Bradley at a backyard birthday party for a mutual friend's kid. "You want to believe that people are going to have your back and not call TMZ or go on Deuxmoi or whatever, but you just don't know." For more on their relationship, keep reading. Khaby Lame: World's Biggest TikTok Star Leaves U.S. After Being Detained By ICE

Khaby Lame, the world's most followed TikTok star, has left the U.S. voluntarily after he was briefly detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement for overstaying the terms of his visa, according to reports. The Associated Press reports that Lame, whose real name is Seringe Khabane Lame, was detained on June 6 at the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas but was permitted to leave the country without a deportation order. Lame reportedly arrived in the U.S. on April 30, a few days before he attended the Met Gala in New York City. 'Lame entered the United States April 30 and overstayed the terms of his visa.' Officials said that Lame 'has since departed the U.S.' He had been granted a voluntary departure, which saw him avoid a deportation order. Lame, who has more than 162M followers on TikTok, is a Senegalese-Italian TikToker and Unicef goodwill ambassador and is best known for his deadpan reactions to other videos. He first made a name for himself at the end of the pandemic, where his silent TikTok posts saw him make fun of life-hack videos, kicking off with a short film of him peeling a banana with his hands. On Monday morning (June 9), the influencer shared a photo of himself in São Paulo, Brazil. Lame's run-in with ICE comes after President Trump and his administration called for the National Guard to be deployed against anti-ICE protests on the streets of L.A. this week. Nearly 5,000 troops have since descended on the city. California Governor Gavin Newsom made a speech on Wednesday condemning the move where he criticized the 'brazen abuse of power by a sitting president' which he said, 'inflamed a combustible situation, putting our people, our officers and even our National Guard at risk.'
