GVMC prepares 27-point agenda for June 6 council meeting
Officials from the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) have prepared a 27-point agenda, mostly on development of theme park, construction of drains, roads, pipelines etc., for the council meeting scheduled to be held on June 6. The corporation has also proposed to recruit seasonal manpower to engage in anti-larval operations during the monsoon.
Sources from the corporation said that several Corporators, MLAs from the NDA have asked the GVMC to add some more important proposals for the council meeting. It may be remembered that the last council meeting was held during December 2024. This will be the first council meeting after the NDA leaders took over as Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
Meanwhile, Corporator of Ward 22, (JSP) P.L.V.N. Murthy has submitted a representation to the District Collector, in-charge Commissioner of GVMC, M.N. Harendhira Prasad to incorporate sessions or discussions on TDRs, chicken meat wastage collection and dumps, smart city project allocations, revenue shops leases and allotments, G20 works allocations, issues pertaining to night food court.
CPI(M) Corporator (Ward 78) B. Ganga Rao also urged the authorities to discuss encroachments of the GVMC parks, resurvey of proposed property tax hike and other topics.

Cuttack, Odisha Police has prepared massive security arrangements for the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath later this month, an official said on Tuesday. Director General of Police Y B Khurania on Monday held a high-level meeting with top police officers including those looking after intelligence, law and order, rail and coastal security. He ordered them to give special attention to incidents like possible stampede situation, drive against criminals and devotees amenities. The DGP also stressed on the deployment of K9 squad or dog squad, the official said. Several Union ministers and many VVIPs are likely to visit Puri during the Rath Yatra as Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has invited many Union ministers and chief ministers of NDA-ruled states to visit Puri during the Rath Yatra. Last year President Droupadi Murmu had witnessed the Rath Yatra festival in Puri. The DGP also directed to ensure smooth traffic movement, barricade arrangements, and quick resolution of various problems in collaboration with the district administration. The meeting also discussed the issue of dealing with emergency situations, the official said. Installation of CCTV at various important places in the city, road dividers, traffic zones for traffic management, adequate parking arrangements at various places in the city, maintenance of an orderly traffic system and others were discussed in the meeting. Similarly, patrolling by police on the sea beach and opening of temporary police outposts there were also discussed in detail. The Odisha police expect a congregation of lakhs of devotees during the Rath Yatra festival which is celebrated for about a fortnight. While the Lord's bathing ceremony 'Snan Yatra' will be observed on June 11, the Rath Yatra and chariot pulling is scheduled on June 27. Devotees in large numbers also congregate in Puri on 'Naba Jouban darshan' day on June 26, a day before chariot pulling. The Hera Panchami festival will be held on July 1 followed by Sandhya Darshan on July 4 and Bahuda Yatra on July 5. The Suna Besha on July 6, Adharpana ritual on July 7 and finally Niladri Bije on July 8, will mark the end of the Rath Yatra festival.

Farmers ready to offer 36,000 acres under second phase land pooling for Amaravati: Minister
Andhra Pradesh Municipal Minister P Narayana has said that farmers have come forward to offer 36,000 acres of land for the second phase of land pooling for the greenfield capital city of Amaravati to accommodate an international airport, smart industries and a sports city. Addressing a press conference at the secretariat on Monday, the minister noted that the TDP-led NDA government needs 5,000 acres of land to build an airport similar to Shamshabad Airport in Hyderabad and another 2,500 acres each to accommodate smart industries and an international sports city respectively. The state government is already having a land bank of 54,000 acres for the greenfield capital city, which is yet to be fully utilised by bringing in infrastructure and constructions and is going for an additional 40,000 acres of land under a second phase. Live Events On April 15, Narayana had announced that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is keen on creating a 'mega city' combining adjacent Mangalagiri, Tadepalli, Guntur and Vijayawada with Amaravati. Further, he said the 48th Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) meeting chaired by the CM on Monday took a decision to confirm the L1 (least cost) bidders to construct five administrative towers in the core capital area of the greenfield capital city at an estimated cost of Rs 3,673 crore. 'Chirag Paswan is aware of the sanctity of an endorsement (of Nitish Kumar) by someone like that of Amit Shah (in the Gopalganj rally).
