Luca Brecel reveals Arsenal star arranged private jet for Crucible dash before Ding Junhui win

Luca Brecel often shows up last minute to his snooker matches and decided to fly to the Crucible for his last-16 tie by private jet after some help from his friend and fellow Belgian Leandro Trossard
Snooker star Luca Brecel has revealed Arsenal star Leandro Trossard helped him organise a private jet to make it in time for his World Championship clash at the Crucible. The 30-year-old sought advice from his fellow Belgian as he aimed to travel for his last-16 match against Ding Junhui.
Brecel ended up romping to a 13-4 victory after a dominant display to help him set up a quarter-finals tie against Judd Trump.

'The Belgian Bullet' is said to have flown from Maastricht in his native Holland on Saturday afternoon before landing at East Midlands Airport at 3.17pm - just hours before he faced Ding Junhui.

It then took him an hour to drive to Sheffield by car and he ended up arriving at the Crucible just minutes before his match took place. He has now thanked close friend Trossard for arranging the flight that got him there, admitting it helps his preparations if he arrives just before the start of a match.
"I don't like to hang around too long," he said. "I always try to get here as late as possible. Even today, I came here 15 minutes before the game. That has always been my way. As long as it works, it's good.
"I just booked it the day before. Obviously, I know Trossard from Arsenal. He arranged it for me. That was quite easy. He gave me the number and I fixed it. I'm not going to say the price. If there's a delay, there's a delay. I left enough time, I guess, to get here.
"I'm not sure if I'm playing as good as 2023 but I'm more relaxed and not so worried about winning the title because when I got to the final, I felt it was a golden chance. I feel like I can get back there and win it again. Not that much pressure. It's not taking too much energy out of me – yet."
Brecel often shows off his lavish lifestyle and recently admitted he bought a Ferrari 448 for around £220,000, as well as a Porsche and Range Rover. He said having less money helps him stay motivated.

"I bought two more cars this week, so I went from a millionaire to a non-millionaire," he said. "It was a conscious decision to buy the cars and maybe feel that bit of pressure again, to recreate the feeling I had of just starting my career.'
Brecel's stylish win over Ding earned him huge plaudits from snooker legend Steve Davis, who witnessed his victory from the commentary box.
He said: "What an effort that was, I can't tell you how hard that is to do. We've witnessed the most amazing exhibition of snooker, in one session, I think I've ever seen at the Crucible.
"Not in an exhibition match, the World Championship. He's done this to one of the greatest players that's ever held a cue, Ding Junhui. Totally taken the thunder from that first frame. Incredible stuff."

Arsenal legend Tony Adams delivers brutal verdict on Mikel Arteta - and states Gunners will NOT win the Premier League with Martin Odegaard as captain

Arsenal legend Tony Adams has urged manager Mikel Arteta to strip Martin Odegaard of the club's captaincy if they wish to win the Premier League. Arsenal have played bridesmaid in the title race for the last three seasons, falling short against Manchester City twice, and most recently Liverpool. Odegaard was made made captain ahead of the 2022-23 season, following the departures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. However, he is yet to bring any silverware to the Emirates. Adams, who famously led Arsenal to four league titles during his own glittering career, has identified the man he believes will drive the north London side over the line in the title race. The former Gunners captain urged Arteta to replace Odegaard with England international Declan Rice. 'He's got a really big call to make this year and for me he hasn't done it,' Adams said. 'The call is to make Declan Rice the captain. I think Declan is my kind of captain, and it might free Odegaard up to play with a bit more freedom. 'Every now and again as a manager, you have to put someone who reflects you, who reflects the football club that you think can actually take you to the next level.' When asked if he thinks Rice reflects Arteta, Adams retorted: 'I think he's better than Arteta.' Adams was then asked if Rice is a winner and if Arteta is not. The former defender answered diplomatically. 'I'm just saying he's got an opportunity this year to actually turn into a winner,' he added. 'To win league titles, you have to be a [Jurgen] Klopp, you have to be a [Sir Alex] Ferguson. You have to lead by example, you have to be a winner, you have to go about your business. And that reflects in your captain. 'And I'm seeing Declan Rice as a captain but I'm saying to Arteta: "Come on, step up now. It's your time to be a winning manager and a fantastic manager, because you're not going to win the league with Odegaard as captain.' Adams believes Rice's durability and leadership are exactly what Arsenal need to finally get their hands on the title after coming close in the last two seasons. 'You've got someone in their who's going to play every game all season, that's going to encourage people to come in and lay the foundations of a title-winning team,' he continued.

Rangers star ‘reaches verbal agreement to sign five-year deal with club' as he nears exit with meeting in London booked

But now this Rangers star could be on his way out of Ibrox BEFORE the crunch Champions League play-off against Club Brugge. Sign up for the Rangers newsletter Sign up 1 He started for Rangers in the Czech Republic Credit: Willie Vass Brazilian left-back Jefte didn't paint himself in the best light on Tuesday night as he was at fault for Viktoria Plzen's opener and was run ragged by wide-man Amar Memic. But that disappointing display hasn't prevented him from potentially sealing a big-money exit from Glasgow. Jefte, who was signed by Gers for £800,000 from Fulminans last summer looks set to depart Scotland after just one season. It was revealed earlier this week that the 21-year-old had been the subject of a "multi-million offer" from one of his old club's rivals in Brazil in the lead up to the return leg in Czech Republic. The news of the potential transfer came as a surprise with Russell Martin seemingly keen to offload fellow left-back Ridvan Yilmaz as well. But while Yilmaz was the one who looked set to leave Rangers out of the two, it now seems as if it will be Jefte who will be the left-back who heads for the exit door first. That's because fresh reports out of Brazil claim the 21-year-old is one step closer to sealing a stunning move back to his homeland with Palmeiras. According to Brazilian outlet UOL, Palmeiras have stepped up their negotiations in the last 48 hours and have now reached a verbal agreement with the player himself. It's said the left-back has agreed a five-year deal with the club and talks between the Brazilian outfit and Rangers are progressing well. Palmeiras are hoping to finalise a deal by early next week, which isn't ideal timing for the Light Blues with their huge play-off clash against Club Brugge kicking off next Tuesday. They face the Belgian outfit at Ibrox that day, with the return leg pencilled in for the following Wednesday in Belgium. It's said Jefte and his representatives will meet with Palmeiras in London one day next week to finalise personal terms. There are no details on the exact transfer fee involved in talks between both clubs, but Rangers are in line to make a decent profit on the player. The right winger who Rangers must shut down to reach Champions League

However, the 32-year-old, who pitched in with the hosts' final goal in the last minute of regulation time to secure a 4-2 aggregate triumph, was less than enamoured with the overall performance. 'We'll have to raise our game against Rangers,' said the Blue Blacks captain. 'We have already played against them in pre-season and drawn. But this will be a completely different story.' Read more: Vanaken's cautious words suggest that his team, very much like Russell Martin's side, have not produced the sort of form of which they are capable of at this early stage in the new campaign despite their highly impressive midweek victory. Could the presence of one man in their starting line-up at Ibrox next Tuesday evening and then over in Bruges the following week, though, mean the next two encounters between the Belgian and Scottish giants have a different outcome to their friendly tussle in Govan at the start of last month? Fans of Club Brugge, who drew with Celtic at Parkhead in the Champions League league phase last term and qualified for the last 16 following an emphatic knockout round play-off win over Atalanta of Italy, are hopeful that summer acquisition Carlos Forbs can elevate them to a higher level in the coming months. The Portuguese winger has struggled to fulfil his vast potential in his embryonic career to date. He failed to make the breakthrough to the first team at Manchester City after eight years in the youth ranks at the Etihad Stadium and was sold to Ajax for €14m two years ago. But he hardly featured at the Johan Cruyff Arena and returned to England last year when he was farmed out to Wolves on loan. He was involved in 10 Premier League games during his time at Molineux. However, no bid was forthcoming and he returned to Amsterdam in May. (Image: SNS) The chance to get the regular first team football with Club Brugge this season was appealing to the 21-year-old and he agreed, after helping Portugal to make it through to the quarter-finals of the European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia in June, to a €6m transfer to Belgium last month. His manager Nicky Hayen, who has lifted the Belgian Cup and Belgian Super Cup this year to make amends for surrendering the Pro League title to Royal Union Saint-Gilloise, has stressed that it will take Forbs time to get up to speed. But his individual display against Salzburg strongly suggested that when he does his new employers will have a potent attacking weapon on their hands. The statistics told the story at the end of 90 breathless minutes. He attempted the most dribbles (eight), succeeded with the most dribbles (five) and had the most touches in the opposition box (nine). The highlight of his outstanding showing was the goal he scored with seven minutes of regulation time remaining. He intercepted a pass from Jacob Rasmussen, ran half the length of the park and slotted beyond goalkeeper Alexander Schlager from a tight angle to make it 2-2 on the night and 3-2 overall. The home supporters in the 23,736-strong crowd erupted. A star was born. The new hero received a standing ovation when he was replaced late on. His new team mates were effusive in their praise following the final whistle. Read more: "We know his qualities,' said Vanaken. 'He's fast and he can make moves with both his left and his right foot. You really can't defend against him. Forbs is an absolute weapon for us." Joaquin Seys - who started a remarkable second half fightback by the home favourites, who had fallen 2-0 down and 2-1 behind on aggregate in the first-half, when he netted on the hour mark - is convinced that more, much more, is to come to from the lightning quick and skilful wide boy. 'He's a fantastic player,' said the left-back. 'We're going to see more great things from him." The sudden emergence of Forbs should be a concern for former Scotland centre-half Martin as left-back has been something of a problem position in his side during the early weeks of his tenure. He has played Jefte there in Rangers' last three games. But the Brazilian winger slipped just before half-time in the third qualifying round match against Viktoria Plzen in the Czech Republic on Tuesday night, failed to clear a high ball which he should have dealt with easily and allowed Rafiu Durosinmi to pull one back for the hosts. (Image: SNS) In the three games before that, against Panathinaikos of Greece and Motherwell at Fir Park, it was Max Aarons who was given the nod in the specialist position in the back four. But the Bournemouth loanee prefers to be deployed on the right flank and it showed. With Ridvan Yilmaz locked in talks with Besiktas in his native Turkey and a move back to his homeland looking likely in the coming days, it is not immediately apparent to supporters who Martin, under mounting pressure despite leading his side through to the Champions League play-offs and to within touch of a multi-million pound pay day, can deploy at left back to nullify the threat posed by Forbs. Hayen took a gamble playing the Sintra-born forward on Tuesday night and was rewarded for his bravery. He is, then, likely to take a chance on the youngster again in both legs of the play-off. Rangers will need to be ready or they will fail to progress to the league phase for the first time in their history. 'It worked out well,' said the Club Brugge manager. 'Ultimately, it was the right decision. He is not fully fit yet and ideally we would only use him for 45 minutes or so. But we saw his qualities and he was able to make a difference.'
