Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Reportedly Forms New Team to Accelerate AI Superintelligence Efforts
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is said to be personally driving a new initiative aimed at developing advanced artificial intelligence capable of exceeding human-level performance — a concept often referred to as 'superintelligence.' According to recent media reports, Zuckerberg has become increasingly involved in shaping Meta's AI direction, engaging directly with leading experts and researchers in an effort to fast-track innovation. The company is said to be reorganizing parts of its Menlo Park campus to centralize the new AI team near Zuckerberg's office. Meta has already made notable contributions to AI through tools integrated across its platforms — including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram — as well as through its smart devices like Ray-Ban smart glasses and digital assistants. However, with the competitive AI landscape advancing rapidly, the company appears to be intensifying its focus to keep pace with industry leaders. As part of this push, Meta is reportedly in the process of recruiting dozens of engineers and researchers to build a specialized team dedicated to developing cutting-edge AI models. These efforts are believed to stem in part from internal concerns over the slower-than-expected progress of Meta's latest large language model. While Meta has invested heavily in its Llama series of AI models, sources suggest the company now wants to take bolder steps toward building AI systems with far more advanced reasoning and decision-making abilities. This renewed focus comes amid broader industry momentum toward more powerful AI capabilities, with major players competing to lead the next wave of artificial intelligence breakthroughs. Meta has not publicly confirmed the reports or released specific details about the scope or goals of the initiative. Still, the company's increased emphasis on superintelligence reflects its long-term vision of integrating next-generation AI across its products and platforms — while potentially shaping how the next chapter of digital interaction unfolds.

Trump Administration Orders Us to Halt Student Visa
US embassies across the world have been ordered by the Trump Administration to put an immediate halt to visa interviews for foreign students. According to reporting by US news site Politico, the US is planning to monitor social media posts of all foreign students planning to study in the country. A briefing issued from Secretary of State Marco Rubio sent on Tuesday ordered embassies to stop arranging future interviews. The message sent by the state department said: 'Effective immediately, in preparation for an expansion of required social media screening and vetting, consular sections should not add any additional student or exchange visitor (F, M, and J) visa appointment capacity until further guidance is issued septel (separate telegram), which we anticipate in the coming days'. Reports said vetting of social media posts by people applying to study in the US will require consular staff to look through comments and posts on platforms such as X, Instagram, and TikTok for content perceived to threaten national security. There are currently more than one million foreign students in the US, and they contributed approximately $448bn to the national economy in 2023-2024, according to National Association of Foreign Student Advisers data. Foreign students support around 380,000 jobs in the USA. Also read: US Removes Syria Sanctions In Implementation Of Trump's 'Fresh Start' Vision

IndiGo Flight Struck by Hailstorm Mid-Air, Lands Safely in Srinagar Despite Severe Damage
An IndiGo passenger aircraft traveling from New Delhi to Srinagar encountered a violent hailstorm mid-flight on Wednesday, triggering widespread panic among passengers and causing significant damage to the aircraft's nose cone. Despite the harrowing experience, the flight crew managed to land the plane safely in Srinagar. The incident occurred during what is typically a routine 90-minute journey between the Indian capital and the largest city in India-administered Kashmir. According to a statement from IndiGo, the flight 'encountered a sudden hailstorm en route,' but the cabin and flight crew 'followed established protocol,' ensuring a safe landing. Though the airline did not disclose the extent of the damage, images circulated online show a large hole in the nose of the aircraft, believed to have been caused by hail impact. Severe weather, including heavy rain, lightning, and thunderstorms, was reported in Delhi on the same evening. A video captured by passenger Sheikh Samiullah and posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) showed scenes of chaos inside the aircraft as it was rocked by severe turbulence. Screams filled the cabin, with passengers visibly shaken and children crying. Speaking to the Press Trust of India, Samiullah recounted the terrifying ordeal: 'There was so much turbulence that I thought it was my last flight. Everyone thought we would crash. It was such a traumatic experience.' He further expressed his shock at the extent of the damage once passengers disembarked, adding, 'After we deboarded and saw the plane's damage, it was even more traumatic. I wish no one goes through an experience like this.' Aviation experts say incidents involving hail are not uncommon. Mary Schiavo, former Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Transportation and a CNN aviation analyst, explained that hail can breach a plane's nose or windshield and significantly affect performance. 'Sometimes bad weather doesn't show up on the radar and you're in the hail before you know it,' she said. Despite such challenges, Schiavo emphasized that commercial aircraft are designed to withstand severe conditions and praised the pilot's manual handling of the situation. While no injuries were reported, the incident has once again raised concerns about in-flight safety and the unpredictability of weather-related turbulence. It also follows a series of recent turbulence-related incidents globally, including a Singapore Airlines flight last year in which one person died and over 70 were injured.
