Girl Struggles To Breathe In Overcrowded Train Coach As Bystanders Mock Her, Railways Responds

NDTV2 days ago
A disturbing video is circulating on social media, showcasing a young girl struggling to breathe in a packed train compartment while bystanders laugh and film her distress instead of helping her. The footage has triggered widespread outrage and sparked discussions about passenger safety during peak travel periods. In the video, the girl, visibly suffocating in the overcrowded train, tries to open the window for fresh air and splashes water on her face to cope with the heat. Instead of assisting her, onlookers mock and record her ordeal, sparking intense criticism on social media for their lack of empathy.
"A girl was almost suffocated, stampeded into a train coach, and she was running out of breath. The crowd on the platform was laughing and mocking her. What do you call such behaviour?'', the video was captioned by X user Woke Eminent.
The post tagged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Railway Ministry, and Railway Seva, urging them to improve crowd management during the festival season. The user suggested measures such as restricting access at high-traffic stations and deploying security forces like the CRPF on peak travel days to prevent overcrowding and ensure passenger safety.

The Railway Seva account responded to the video, expressing concern and asking for details to investigate the matter further. The reply read, "We are concerned to see this. Please share details like the Place of incidence, the Date of incidence and the Mobile no so that we can get it checked. You may also raise your concern directly on https://railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in for speedy redressal."
Many users condemned the bystanders' behaviour, calling it insensitive and inhumane and called for better safety measures. One user said, "As I say, Indians lack empathy and severely lack civilised behaviour. People's behaviour and understanding of emergencies and emergency care are extremely low in India. Emergency response theory and practice must be a part of the syllabus in schools in India. Otherwise degeneracy will increase."
Another commented, "These people just stood there laughing and recording on their phones while a girl was gasping for breath, literally fighting to stay conscious? That's not just shameless, it's inhuman."
A third said, "What is wrong with the people? And most of them are young educated men, sad to see this, lack of arrangements from the railway is equally responsible for this chaos, these kinds of situations lead to stampede."

Here's all you need to know about this day: Independence Day 2025: Is it 78th or 79th Independence Day? Like every year, this year, too, there is confusion about whether 2025 marks the 78th or the 79th Independence Day. Well, let us clear your confusion. In 2025, India celebrates its 79th Independence Day. Indian defence personnel marches in front of Red Fort in Delhi during Independence Day rehearsal(Raj k Raj/Hindustan Times) The confusion arises when many people simply subtract 1947 (the year India achieved its freedom from British colonisers) from 2025 and arrive at 78. The mistake happens because they don't factor in the first celebration itself. Therefore, the correct way is to count August 15, 1947 — the day India became independent — as the first Independence Day. So, then, 2025 will be the 79th celebration of India's freedom. Independence Day 2025: What is the theme for 2025? The Government of India has not yet announced the official theme for this year's Independence Day celebrations. Every year, the government focuses the theme of Independence Day on the values of unity, patriotism, social progress, and the contributions of India's freedom fighters. This year's theme is expected to follow similar values, with an emphasis on national development and collective responsibility. Independence Day 2025: Significance and celebrations Meanwhile, Independence Day celebrations hold much significance as they remind the countrypeople of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and to uphold their values. Every year, celebrations are observed across India, with state capitals, government offices, schools, and communities holding flag-hoisting ceremonies, parades, and cultural performances. The official Independence Day programme begins with the presentation of a Guard of Honour by the Armed Forces and the Delhi Police to the Prime Minister. It is followed by the unfurling of the tricolour, accompanied by the National Anthem and the 21-gun salute. Helicopters of the Indian Air Force will shower flower petals over Red Fort. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also delivers his Independence Day address.

Higgins had previously issued a strong statement condemning these attacks through his office. "The recent despicable attacks on members of the Indian community stand in stark contradiction to the values that we as a people hold dear. That any person in Ireland, particularly any young person, should be drawn into such behaviour through manipulation or provocation is to be unequivocally condemned," the president's office statement read. President Higgins also recognised the extensive contributions of the Indian community across various sectors in Ireland. "We are all mindful of the immense contribution this community has made, and continues to make, to so many aspects of Irish life, in medicine, nursing, the caring professions, in cultural life, in business and enterprise, to cite just some. Their presence, their work, their culture, have been a source of enrichment and generosity to our shared life," the president's statement continued. Indian Man Attacked By Group Of Teenagers In Ireland's Dublin, Plans To Return Home

Last Updated: An Indian man in Dublin was assaulted by three teenagers in Fairview Park, suffering a deep cut above his eye that required eight stitches. He now wants to return to India. An Indian man living in Ireland's Dublin has said he will return to India after being attacked by a group of teenagers in Fairview Park over the weekend, The Journal reported. The man, who preferred not to be named, told the publication that the assault happened at nearly 5.30 pm (local time) on August 10, when one attacker on an electric scooter kicked him in the stomach. As he tried to walk away, two others joined in, hitting him repeatedly until he fell to the ground, where they continued kicking and punching him. One of the attackers reportedly struck him above the eye with his own metal water bottle, causing a deep cut and heavy bleeding. He received eight stitches in the hospital. The man also requested an extension from his university to finish his thesis online. Earlier this month, the Indian Embassy in Ireland issued an advisory expressing safety concerns following recent attacks in and around the capital Dublin and urging Indian citizens to take safety precautions. 'There has been an increase in the instances of physical attacks reported against Indian citizens in Ireland recently," stated the advisory issued online. 'The embassy is in touch with the authorities concerned in Ireland in this regard. At the same time, all Indian citizens in Ireland are advised to take reasonable precautions for their personal security and avoid deserted areas, especially in odd hours," the statement read. On Tuesday, Ireland President Michael D Higgins 'unequivocally" condemned the 'despicable attacks" on members of the Indian community. In a statement, Higgins highlighted the immense contribution of Indians across all spheres of Irish life, saying the attacks were in stark contradiction to the values of Ireland. It came after a spate of violent attacks on Indians in Dublin and other cities, which the Irish police (Garda) said was 'being fully and thoroughly investigated". 'The recent despicable attacks on members of the Indian community stand in stark contradiction to the values that we as a people hold dear," said Higgins. 'That any person in Ireland, particularly any young person, should be drawn into such behaviour through manipulation or provocation is to be unequivocally condemned," he said. 'Whether such provocation stems from ignorance or from malice, it is essential to acknowledge the harm that it is causing. Such acts diminish all of us and obscure the immeasurable benefits the people of India have brought to the life of this country," he added.
