Jake Tapper admits to apologizing to Lara Trump over 2020 interview

"She saw something that I did not see at the time, 100 percent," Tapper said.
Biden's mental acuity while in office continues to be a lightning rod despite Trump taking office again in January.
The focus on the former president's health was reignited by the promotional tour for the book and inflamed again when it was announced that Biden has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.
"You lectured her on how she was in no position to diagnose cognitive decline which you, which you guys do at length, including on page four of your book," Kelly said.
What happened in 2020?
Lara Trump had made disparaging remarks at a "Women for Trump" 2020 campaign event that were played by Tapper during the October 2020 edition of "State of the Union," saying, "Every time he comes on stage and they turn to him, I'm like, 'Joe, can you get it out. Let's get the words out.'"
Tapper then asked, "how do you think it makes little kids with stutters feel when they see you make a comment like that?"
Trump then responded that she did not know Biden had a stutter, which was a well-documented disability the then-presidential candidate has.
"I think what we see on stage with Joe Biden, Jake, is very clearly a cognitive decline. That's what I'm referring to," Trump added.
Tapper then shut down the interview, telling Trump, "I think you have absolutely no standing to diagnose somebody's cognitive decline."
Tapper tell all takes heat
Tapper, along with co-author Alex Thompson of Axios, has also faced criticism of the book from the center and left wings of political spectrum.
Naomi Biden, the former president's granddaughter, called the book "political fairy smut for the permanent, professional chattering class," in an X post made Monday, May 19.
Jon Stewart skewered the rollout of the book on the May 19 episode of the Daily Show, questioning why the authors held the information gathered for the book.
"How (expletive) weird it is that the news is selling you a book about news they should've told you was news a year ago for free," Stewart said.
Stewart also pointed out that the continued promotion of the book on CNN could be seen in poor taste.
"It's just fun to watch them not only continue to push the book in light of this difficult news, but to actually frame this difficult news as perhaps even more of a reason to buy this book," Stewart said.
Kieth Olbermann, the left-wing commentator and former MSNBC host, went further than his former cable rival on the May 19 edition of "Countdown with Keith Olbermann."
"The car in which all of the Biden acuity truthers and reporters and book writers and finger-waggers and editors in Washington has just stopped suddenly." Olbermann said. "They have been ejected from vehicle from which they were climbing over each other to drive it faster and faster and you deserve it utterly, Tapper and Alex Thompson."

Trump shares unfounded conspiracy theory claiming Biden was 'executed' in 2020

President Donald Trump on Saturday night reposted a baseless claim on Truth Social that former President Joe Biden was executed in 2020 and replaced with clones or robots. The original post, made by an anonymous Truth Social user that often spreads outlandish claims, suggested that Biden was replaced with 'clones, doubles' and 'robotic engineered soulless mindless entities.' Trump published a link to that post to his nearly 10 million followers, without adding any additional context or explanation. The original poster's account has a little more than 5,000 followers. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment Sunday explaining why Trump shared the post and whether Trump believes Biden was executed in 2020. Trump has frequently taken to sharing misinformation and unproven conspiracy theories over the years. The president repeats false claims that he won the 2020 presidential election, which led some of his supporters to attack the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, in an attempt to overturn Biden's victory. He also claimed — before backtracking — thatformer President Barack Obama was not born in the U.S. and, during the 2024 campaign, allegedthat Haitian immigrants were 'eating the pets.' All of those claims were debunked or otherwise proven false. Trump's circle, too, has spread conspiracy theories, with some of the top brass in the administration having spread misinformation about vaccines or the so-called 'deep state.' Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has previously repeated a debunked claim that the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine causes autism, and the FBI's director and deputy director have spread claims that the Biden administration and the 'deep state' weaponized the FBI against Trump. Biden revealed last month that he had been diagnosed with a metastatic form of an aggressive type of prostate cancer, as the former president and his top aides were already facing mounting scrutiny about his mental acuity and physical capabilities while in office and how forthcoming they had been with the country. The revelation of his cancer diagnosis initially prompted an outpouring of well-wishes fromDemocrats and Republicans, but it quickly shifted as Trump allies claimed Biden had hidden his cancer diagnosis. A spokesperson for Biden said at the time that the former president had never been diagnosed with prostate cancer before last month. Biden, since his diagnosis was made public , said on Friday he felt good and joked with reporters about the allegations of his supposed mental decline while in office. The repost Saturday joins a host of heightened attacks the president has brandished against Biden in recent weeks. Trump and House Republicans have scrutinized Biden's use of an autopen to sign some pieces of legislation and executive orders, using it to call into question Biden's mental state. Trump has gone as far as to claim that some pardons that Biden signed were not valid because they had not been signed with a real pen. NBC News has previously reported that the White House has used autopens to create signatures for decades.

CNN accused of playing down terror attack in Boulder as hosts slam Kash Patel's statement

CNN is being slammed for downplaying the terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, which saw multiple people set on fire at a pro-Israel rally. FBI Director Kash Patel called the incident a 'targeted terror attack' against demonstrators as they gathered to remember the October 7 victims who are still being held hostage in Gaza on Sunday afternoon. The horror unfolded during the event, organized by Run For Their Lives, on Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder at around 1.26pm, police said. But on CNN, hosts Andrew McCabe and Juliette Kayyem reportedly called the FBI 'juvenile' and 'irresponsible' for calling it a terror attack, according to Curtis Houck, the managing editor of News Busters.

Trump shares baseless conspiracy that Joe Biden died and was replaced by a clone

President Donald Trump has shared a baseless conspiracy theory that former President Joe Biden died and was replaced by a robotic clone. Late Saturday night, Trump, 78, shared a Truth Social post claiming his former political opponent, Biden, 82, was killed in 2020 and replaced by a clone – unbeknownst to Democrats. 'There is no #JoeBiden–executed in 2020,' the post reads. The post goes on to claim that the real Biden was replaced by 'clones doubles & robotic engineered soulless mindless entities' and that 'Democrats don't know the difference.' Trump's supporters were quick to get behind his message, some sharing side-by-side memes of Biden claiming 'these are not the same people,' and others egging on Trump for 'trolling.' Some commentators pointed to Biden's earlobes, claiming that before 2020, they appeared to be unattached to his head, whereas now they are. Another even insisted that the government televised giving Biden a 'funeral cannon salute at Arlington' on his Inauguration Day. Detractors of the president, meanwhile, branded his sharing of the post 'concerning.' Trump's wife, Melania, has also been the subject of similar conspiracy theories, with some claiming a body double replaced her during his first term. The White House at the time dismissed the theories as a 'non-story.' Trump has seemingly been digging into conspiracy theories all weekend, including on Friday when he claimed CBS 'deleted' his 2015 interview with Stephen Colbert. Trump reposted a Facebook video on his Truth Social account containing heavily edited clips of his September 2015 interview on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. A message next to the video states: 'You are not supposed to see this video. CBS DELETED this entire episode from their official website. You will not find these segments on YouTube either.' However, a quick search on YouTube revealed otherwise. Clips from the Trump-Colbert interview are still available to be watched on the official Late Show account. One video has 17 million views.
