Love on pause? Zeta-Jones and Douglas face new challenges after his retirement

Arab Times6 days ago
LOS ANGELES, Aug 5: Hollywood power couple Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas are reportedly going through a difficult phase in their marriage as they approach their 25th wedding anniversary.
Known for their long-lasting relationship and impressive careers, the pair's marriage is said to have been affected by Douglas's recent retirement from acting. Insiders reveal that while Zeta-Jones isn't upset about his decision to step away from the industry, she is struggling with the increased amount of time they now spend together.
'She's not against him retiring but knows it means they'll be around each other more, and she values her quiet and personal space,' a source told RadarOnline. 'The marriage thrived best when they had some distance, even living separately at times, which Catherine appreciated for her independence.'
The Oscar-winning actress reportedly feels the need for space has grown since their children, Dylan and Carys, moved out of the house. However, Douglas's retirement means he fills the empty nest with his constant presence, which Zeta-Jones finds challenging.
'She prefers that he go to events alone or travel so she can have some breathing room,' the insider added. 'She's aware of the 25-year age gap and the changes it brings, and now that Michael is retired, she faces new dynamics in their relationship.'
Douglas announced his retirement at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic but hinted at the possibility of returning to acting in the future.
The couple's story began after Douglas admired Zeta-Jones's role in Mask of Zorro and pursued her with persistence despite a rocky first impression. They married in November 2000, welcomed two children, and endured challenges including Douglas's throat cancer diagnosis in 2010 and Zeta-Jones's battle with bipolar II disorder.
After a brief separation in 2013, the couple reconciled and have appeared together publicly since. Zeta-Jones has often spoken warmly about their marriage, calling Douglas a wonderful husband and father and celebrating their milestone anniversaries.
As they navigate this new chapter, the question remains whether Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas can overcome this reportedly rocky period following his retirement.

Wednesday Season 2 IMDB Rating: 8.0 Genres: Comedy, Crime, Fantasy, Mystery Jenna Ortega is back as the eponymous Addams Family daughter in Wednesday: Season 2, and the first reviews affirm that her return was worth the wait. Three years after the show's Netflix debut, Ortega remains the primary reason to watch, while Tim Burton fans continue to receive the best of the filmmaker's trademarks on the small screen. Critics are divided, however, on whether certain changes and uniformities are favorable or not, and the decision to divide the season into two parts sounds frustrating. Over a decade later, the remaining family set out on a hiking tour, visiting landscapes Evelyn liked to walk, to reflect on his life and death. The result is an intensely personal and moving take on the emotional impact of suicide within a family and a powerful account of the benefits of creating safe spaces for emotional communication. Shot in a subjective style and against the stunning backdrop of the British countryside, Evelyn is an emotionally raw film that documents the difficult, yet rewarding, attempt to navigate the rocky highlands of collective trauma Happy Gilmore 2 IMDB Rating: 6.2 Genres: Comedy, Sports Nearly thirty years have passed since Happy Gilmore famously won the 1996 Tour Championship. Oprah Winfrey picks Richard Russo's 'Bridge of Sighs' for her book club

NEW YORK, Aug 6, (AP): Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Richard Russo is the latest author to be welcomed into the inner circle of Oprah Winfrey's book club picks. Winfrey announced Tuesday that she had selected Russo's "Bridge of Sighs,' a 2007 novel centered in a rural New York community. Russo has set much of his work in small, Northeastern towns, including "Nobody's Fool,' later adapted into a movie of the same name that starred Paul Newman; and "Empire Falls,' winner of the Pulitzer in 2002 and the basis for an Emmy-winning HBO series that featured Newman and his wife, Joanne Woodward. Winfrey often chooses new books for her club, but has at times looked to older releases, from Toni Morrison's "The Bluest Eye' to John Steinbeck's "East of Eden.' "It is, of course, a profound honor to be chosen for Oprah's Book Club,' Russo said in a statement. "But to be chosen for a novel written two decades earlier? A book that will introduce a whole new generation of readers to my work? How special is that?' A conversation between Winfrey and Russo, held recently at a Starbucks in Seattle, can be seen on Winfrey's YouTube channel and on other outlets where podcasts are aired. Starbucks is the current partner for Winfrey's book club, which she founded in 1996. On Tuesday, Winfrey issued a statement praising "Bridge of Sighs' as a "classic summer read,' with "romance, unrequited love, life-long friendships, and of course - epic family drama.'
