IBJA conclave: Work out road map for gems, jewellery park in U.P: Yogi

Hindustan Times09-05-2025

: Highlighting Uttar Pradesh's safe and conducive business environment, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday called upon the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) to work out a comprehensive road map for a gems and jewellery park in the state, calling it vital for economic growth.
He also urged IBJA to develop a comprehensive model incorporating design, technology, processing, packaging, supply chain management and export.
'UP is now crime and mafia-free, and the UP Police swiftly neutralizes any threats,' he said at the IBJA conclave here on Thursday. He assured traders of the government's steadfast support through enhanced security measures. Outlining significant strides taken under the 'Safe City' initiative, he mentioned the reduction in police response time from 25–30 minutes to just 7–8 minutes.
Expressing gratitude to IBJA for organising the conclave in Lucknow, he noted that such events not only open new avenues for trade but also give momentum to the government's ongoing 'Aath Saal Bemisaal' campaign.
Yogi highlighted that the gems and jewellery industry contributes around 7% to the national GDP. The industry also plays a vital role in job creation and enhancing India's global identity, he said.
The chief minister recalled that just eight years ago, the state was plagued by unrest, riots, and a general sense of insecurity—especially for traders and women—during festivals.
'But in 2017, the people placed their faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and gave the BJP a clear mandate. Today, UP is not only riot-free but also mafia-free and festivals of all communities are now celebrated peacefully,' he said.
'Uttar Pradesh now offers world-class infrastructure and all necessary amenities, making it a land of immense opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors,' he remarked.
He said with a population of 25 crore, UP serves a broader region catering to the needs of nearly 30 crore people in terms of trade, employment, healthcare, and education. He stressed the importance of adopting a modern, forward-looking approach to fully leverage this vast market.
He called on the IBJA and business leaders to seize this unprecedented opportunity and scale new heights.

UP to fast track setting up of 15 industrial zones for MSMEs across 11 districts

Lucknow: As part of its goal to make UP a one trillion-dollar economy, the Uttar Pradesh govt has decided to establish 15 MSME-focused industrial zones across 11 districts. Sharing details, officials said: "The draft blueprint prepared by the MSME department outlines that a total of 764.31 acres will be developed for these industrial estates. Across these estates, 872 industrial plots will be available for investors to set up their enterprises. This will not only strengthen the MSME sector in the state but also play a vital role in achieving the one trillion-dollar economy target." The department's roadmap includes a state-wide campaign to create a substantial land bank. As part of this, the process of making land available for the 15 MSME estates in the 11 districts is underway. They further said that the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is also working on a major plan to boost the MSME sector and has reserved 500 acres of land for setting up MSME units in its upcoming development zones. Additionally, the Greater Noida-based Flatted Factory Complex, to be developed by YEIDA in Sector 28 of Gautam Buddha Nagar at a cost of Rs 125 crore, will offer state-of-the-art, multi-storey factory spaces. The construction process is expected to begin soon, with the master plan and other technical reports currently in progress. The complex, to spread over 38,665 square meters, will be completed within 24 months, providing modern, well-equipped units for MSME enterprises. This multi-pronged strategy by the Yogi govt is designed to make Uttar Pradesh a manufacturing powerhouse, especially by empowering its MSME backbone with world-class infrastructure and investor-friendly policies.

"Did BJP demand UP CM's resignation after Kumbh Mela stampede?": Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah

ANI 11 Jun 2025, 18:44 GMT+10 Chikkaballapur (Karnataka) [India], June 11 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday dismissed the BJP's demand for his resignation over the Bengaluru stampede, accusing the party of 'doing politics in everything.' Chief Minister Siddaramaiah questioned as to why the BJP had not demanded the resignation of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath when a stampede occurred during the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj earlier this year. '40-50 people died in a stampede at Kumbh Mela. Did they demand the chief minister's resignation then? A bridge collapsed on the day of the inauguration, and 140 people died. Did they demand the Prime Minister's resignation then?' Siddaramaiah asked while talking to reporters here. 'The BJP has a habit of misleading people by telling lies and demanding resignations. The BJP does politics in everything,' he added. Earlier, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi slammed the Karnataka government over the Bengaluru stampede that killed 11 people during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations. Joshi demanded the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, citing their 'irresponsible and insensitive' handling of the crowd. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team was officially felicitated by the Karnataka government on the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha (State Assembly) on June 4, before the stampede incident occurred at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Following the Bengaluru stampede that claimed 11 lives and left many injured, the Karnataka Government on June 5 suspended top police officials at the Cubbon Park Police Station and formed a one-man commission under a retired High Court Judge to probe the incident.
