AT&T deepens ties with AST SpaceMobile and you'll probably benefit from this move – but how about your bill?
Both AT&T and Verizon were openly mocked by T-Mobile upon the official rollout of the T-Satellite service in July and now, AT&T is making a counter move that will probably be very important for its own satellite service. After more than 20 years in a variety of roles at AT&T , JR Wilson is making a return to the satellite sector. He has joined AST SpaceMobile as chief of Networks and Spectrum, a shift that brings him back to an industry he worked in early in his career. Early in his professional life, he worked at Teledesic, a 1990s venture funded by Craig McCaw and Microsoft that aimed to deliver broadband from space. Although the project ultimately did not succeed, Wilson has said that the team was working on ideas that were simply ahead of their time. At AT&T , Wilson held a number of senior posts, most recently serving as vice president of Towers, Roaming and In-Building commercial strategy, focusing primarily on terrestrial wireless. His move to AST SpaceMobile is seen as a significant gain for the satellite company. Wilson has long spoken publicly about the potential of the technology AST is pursuing. The company is working on direct-to-device satellite services that can connect unmodified smartphones, and in 2023, AT&T became an early partner by leasing 850 MHz of terrestrial cellular spectrum to support the effort. Of course, Verizon later entered the picture with its own $100 million investment and matching spectrum lease. Wilson is also well known in the wireless industry for his leadership at the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WAB), where he served as chairman for over a decade. During that period, the group advanced initiatives such as OpenRoaming, which aimed to make connecting to Wi-Fi networks as seamless as cellular roaming. – JR Wilson in an WBA announcement, 2025 In a farewell statement issued through the WBA, Wilson reflected on the organization's growth during his tenure, describing it as a privilege to help guide it through an era of transformation. With his AT&T expertise, I'm sure that Wilson will be of great aid when it comes to boosting and enhancing the carrier's satellite-related dreams. Things are already in motion, as on July 21, AT&T and AST SpaceMobile claimed to have pulled off a first in telecom history. They made a regular phone call and sent a text using an everyday cell phone, but instead of connecting through cell towers, the signal went straight to AST's Block 1 satellites. The call and text traveled over AT&T 's spectrum and through its core network, just like a normal connection on the ground. That's incredible and the deeper carriers dive on the satellite front, the more we as end users will benefit. While I don't expect our bills to get lower, it could be the case that one day, we might get (slightly) more for the same monthly fee. Got to keep positive, folks.

You need to see this – iPhone 17 Pro redesign leaks are real and dbrand just confirmed them
Oh well, oh well... it seems that the leaks about the rather peculiar redesign of the iPhone 17 Pro may have been actually right. We've had lots of leaks about the new look, but I still refused to believe it. Now, dbrand, a reputable case brand, seems to confirm the new design by pre-announcing its iPhone 17 Pro Tank Case. And things got iPhone 17 event may happen on September 9, and it's now coming closer and closer. Now, case maker dbrand has gone ahead and revealed its Tank Case, which shows Apple's new 'camera bar' design. The Tank Case is also quite unique and includes some changes from dbrand's usual style of sleek cases and detailed decals. The Tank Case definitely exudes a more badass vibe. dbrand's limited edition cases are always unique, and this one has a rugged look and a decorative MagSafe area with an Illuminati twist. The renders of the case show the Action button, Camera Control, and all the usual expected features of the iPhone 17 Pro. Of course, the raised portion at the top with the cameras, flash, LiDAR, and light sensor stands out. The rumored earlier design with a huge top part dedicated to the camera island (some refer to it as a 'camera bar', like Google Pixel's) is corroborated by this case. It's usual that before the launch event, case makers are provided details, either by Apple or supply chain sources, so it's now becoming as real as it ever was: probably, that would be the design of the new iPhone. The Tank Case will be available exclusively for the iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and Pro Max. Apparently, the 'normal-looking' base iPhone 17 , which is said to keep the same look as usual iPhones, may not be graced with a Tank Case. The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to be unveiled on September 9, and it's likely that pre-orders start on September 12. General availability is expected to start on September 19. I'm not a huge fan of the redesign of the iPhone 17 Pro, to be quite frank. The camera bar seems to be needlessly big. Of course, we can't judge exactly how the iPhone will look under the case, so hopefully some of Apple's usual premium-ness would be showing there.

I may not be able to resist the Pixel 9 Pro Fold at a $600 discount, and neither should you
Look, I'm not made of money, and I'm sure many of you dear readers and friends out there have become more and more careful about your mobile tech spending in recent years or at least in recent months. But while I've never even come close to a $1,000+ smartphone purchase, I see myself faced with one of the toughest buying decisions of my life today. Can I turn down the opportunity to slash 600 bucks off the $1,799 list price of last year's Pixel 9 Pro Fold? In the hardware department, this bad boy is undeniably still sophisticated enough (especially for its new record low price), with no less than five super-capable cameras in tow, a more than respectable Google Tensor G4 processor under the hood, and 256 gigs of internal storage space (in the entry-level configuration discounted by a whopping $600 on Amazon) that sounds more than generous enough to keep up with my digital hoarding needs. That glorious foldable screen is one of the big reasons why I don't think I can resist the Pixel 9 Pro Fold right now. | Image Credit -- PhoneArena While the Pixel 10 Pro Fold certainly sounds even more tempting, with a big battery size upgrade, modest charging technology improvement, and added "Pixelsnap" support, I don't think I'm willing to wait until October and pay and extra 600 bucks for that overall lackluster list of changes and add-ons. Now, I'll admit I haven't had the chance to spend a lot of time with a Pixel 9 Pro Fold unit myself, but I only had to take one look at those massive 8 and 6.3-inch screens in a store a little while back to realize I would buy this thing in a heartbeat at the right price. Well, that time seems to have arrived now (curiously enough, after Prime Day and months before Black Friday and Cyber Monday), and after checking out my colleague Preslav Kateliev's comprehensive Pixel 9 Pro Fold review, I'm about 99.99 percent certain that this is the best foldable for me... and many cost-conscious buyers just like me today.
