Maharashtra BJP leader Prasad Lad claims Rs 3.20 crore from his MLC fund transferred using fake letterhead
In the Council, Lad raised a point of information regarding the transfer of Rs 3.20 crore from his MLC fund without his consent, allegedly in an illegal manner. 'I received a call from the Ratnagiri collector's house about a letter from the Beed district on my letterhead with a list of 36 works for which Rs 3.20 crore from the legislator fund has been transferred. But I had never signed the letter, nor had my letterhead been given to anyone,' Lad told the Council.
'The police have identified the perpetrators in this case. There should be a thorough probe irrespective of the party affiliation of the accused,' demanded Lad. He said even his voice was used through AI on the telephone, and he sought urgent intervention from the state government to stop such fund theft.
Legislators from all parties said that they have all faced such attempts, and those are increasing every passing day. 'Even I faced such an attempt when I was the minister. Other legislators like Uma Khapre, Niranjan Davkhare, too, have faced this,' said Chairman Shinde.
He added that he immediately filed a police complaint, and the transfer of money was stopped. Shinde directed that the state government should take immediate steps to prevent such theft of funds. 'We have directed the state government. We are hopeful that necessary steps will be taken,' said Shinde.
'There has to be some policy decision on this issue. Technical sides need to be fixed and the state government must take strong action,' added Shinde.

Citizen-focused initiatives included promoting the Disha SOS App, with 36,000 downloads and 1,076 awareness events. Drone surveillance led to 420 arrests in 409 public drinking cases, and gambling dens faced strict action. Lok Adalat resolved 3,696 disputes, and the Police Grievance Redressal System addressed 1,686 of 1,887 public complaints. Welfare measures included monthly grievance programs, medical camps for police personnel, and support for families of deceased officers, reflecting the department's commitment to public safety and internal well-being.

A Tumakuru court on Monday held the woman and her friend guilty of murdering her husband and sentenced the duo to life imprisonment. Yashoda and Manjunath, who were out on bail, were produced before the court when judge Nagireddy passed the orders. Additionally, the court imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on the convicts. A Yashoda, 39, and N Manjunath, 35, were arrested in May 2018 on charges of bludgeoning Yashoda's husband Anjinappa to death. Also, his daughter said she heard her parents and a man fighting outside the shed around 1am. This led police to convert the case into that of a murder. They arrested Yashoda, who confessed to the murder. Based on her statement, Manjunath was also arrested. Police chargesheet included the minor's detailed statement on the post-midnight murder. "The chargesheet also contained forensic reports confirming blood samples derived from the shock absorber matched those of Anjinappa. Call records proved Manjunath was present at the shed," a senior police officer said. The police chargesheet said Yashoda was in a relationship with Manjunath, which Anjinappa found out. Anjinappa worked as a caretaker of an agricultural land and as a truck driver. "Yashoda and Manjunath were neighbours in Chikkaballapura. Before marriage, Yashoda was in a relationship with Manjunath. When their relationship continued even after marriage, Anjinappa fought with her. Family members had to intervene," a cop said. As per a plan, Yashoda called Manjunath on his mobile, asking him to come to their shed in the early hours of May 12. "She wanted to separate from Anjinappa and live with Manjunath. But when it did not work, both planned to eliminate Anjinappa," police said.

NANDI HILLS (CHIKKABALLAPURA): In a major rebranding move, the state cabinet Wednesday approved renaming of Bengaluru Rural district as 'Bengaluru North' and Bengaluru City University (BCU) as 'Dr Manmohan Singh University' in honour of the late former PM. The decisions were made during a cabinet meeting held at the scenic Nandi Hills, 60km from Bengaluru, reports Santoshkumar B. "We have also changed the name of Bagepalli in Chikkaballapura district to Bhagyanagar, heeding demands of locals and their elected representatives," CM Siddaramaiah said after the meeting. The Bengaluru Rural district is rapidly growing, and Bengaluru city expanded towards the north. So, the govt decided to remove the word 'Rural' and replace it with 'North'. These decisions follow an earlier move by the Congress govt to rename Ramanagara district as Bengaluru South, in a continued effort to realign districts with the state capital's growing metropolitan identity. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, who attended the meeting alongside Siddaramaiah, said the cabinet also took up key administrative issues, including mining oversight. "We have decided that the state cabinet should conduct a special investigation into the mining irregularities and submit a report within a month. HK Patil found some shortcomings. We have formed a cabinet subcommittee under the leadership of the law minister to protect our state wealth," he said. In all, 48 subjects were discussed and projects worth Rs 3,400 crore were cleared, including crucial investments in drinking water supply. "The total revised amount for the Yettinahole project is Rs 23,251 crore, the amount spent so far is Rs 17,147 crore, another Rs 6,103 crore will be spent... After completing the drinking water project in the next two years, we will provide water to Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Bengaluru North and Bengaluru South districts," the CM said.
