Reddit recommends these gaming laptops — here are my thoughts as a reviewer of 5+ years

Up front, I want to say that I'm not a Reddit user, or Redditor. To be quite frank, I find the site confusing to navigate. But that's a 'me' problem, as Reddit reportedly has more than 1 billion monthly active users.
Given those numbers and the fact that Google loves linking to Reddit posts whenever I search for something, I figured I'd take a look at what the Reddit community thinks about a subject that's near and dear to me: gaming laptops.
It wasn't very complicated. I simply typed 'Reddit best gaming laptop' and clicked on the first few links that Google suggested. The thing I immediately noticed is that Reddit seems to prioritize value above all. That makes sense given how the best gaming laptops are generally expensive. It's a good snapshot of what actual customers think, which is something even I can lose sight of when reviewing expensive machines.
To that end, here are some of the gaming laptops that Reddit recommends at specific price ranges, and what I think of said recommendations as a professional gaming laptop reviewer.
First impressions are everything, and this Reddit post by user afficone instantly won me over when they vehemently advised other users not to buy a gaming laptop for under $500. I always tell folks to avoid sub-$500 gaming laptops, so I endorse this advice.
'There's seriously NOTHING good,' said afficone, 'they're all cheap garbage and finding one with a discrete GPU is like finding a needle in a haystack. If you have a budget of $500, either get a PS5 or a used laptop off Facebook Marketplace or eBay.'
The user recommended the Lenovo Legion LOQ 15 for those who are on a super tight budget, since you can get it for as low as $799. This is a gaming laptop we reviewed, and we said it's a budget-friendly gaming option with an impressive price-to-performance ratio. That said, the creaky plastic construction and heavy weight are hard to ignore.

With the Lenovo LOQ 15, you're getting exactly what you pay for — a budget-friendly gaming laptop with an impressive price-to-performance ratio. There are other surprises too, such as the seriously slick typing experience. But with a creaky plastic construction and a heavyweight feel, some compromises are hard to ignore.
So far so good! Let's see the other recommendations.
Okay, now we're getting to the good stuff! Admittedly, finding a good gaming laptop for under $1,000 isn't easy, but it's at least possible. Here are the gaming laptops Reddit recommends at this price range.
Also, note that some of these selections (and the ones in the rest of this post) might differ from the ones in the Reddit post, though I did my best to get the closest possible configurations.
We haven't reviewed these at Tom's Guide, but given those specs, I say these recommendations are pretty solid. And as the Redditor says, you'll want at least an RTX 4060 for these laptops. Of the ones listed, I'd get the Asus TUF Gaming A16 since it has comparable specs to the others listed, only this machine has a display with a 165Hz refresh rate.
The Asus TUF Gaming A16 packs some respectable specs under the hood. This configuration comes in black and is powered by the formidable GPU/CPU pairing of the AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS and Radeon RX7700S (respectively). This 16-inch laptop has a sharp IPS screen with a max refresh rate of 165Hz, making it an ideal option for fans of first-person shooters.
Reddit says this is the sweet spot value, and I agree. Sure, more expensive laptops will get you better performance (and we'll cover those soon), but laptops in the $1,500 range can offer great performance without destroying your wallet. Here are the laptops Reddit recommends:
This is yet another set of excellent recommendations. I like that even though the components aren't the latest and greatest, they're not too old.
We've recommended laptops with similar specs in the past, such as the Dell G16 listed above, so this looks good to me. Of these recommendations, I'd get the MSI Katana 15 since it is an overall solid value.
The MSI Katana 15 comes in several configurations, but this is the one to buy. With its NVIDIA RTX 4070, Intel Core i7-13620H, 16GB DDR5-5600 RAM, and a 1TB SSD, it offers incredible value and performance and is the best bang-for-your-buck gaming laptop for under $1,000.
Now we're getting into the price range of the gaming laptops I usually review. Here's what Reddit recommends:
Yet another fantastic set of laptop recommendations. Of these, I like the Omen Max 16, which was the first RTX 50-series gaming laptop I reviewed. The Asus ROG Strix G16 is another great choice. If you haven't already noticed, I really like Asus laptops as much as Reddit does.
The HP Omen Max 16 is an exemplary gaming laptop thanks to its powerful RTX 50-series performance, vibrant 16-inch OLED display, and elegant design. Though it costs a lot and is heavy to carry around, it delivers a fantastic gaming experience.
Lastly, we have the most powerful gaming laptops Reddit recommends. If money is no object, then here are some laptops that are arguably the best of the best in terms of performance, display quality, and overall build.
Here, I'll pick the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i, which we also reviewed. If you want to go big, the Alienware M18 R2 from last year is another nice choice, as is the Razer Blade 16.
The 10th Gen Lenovo Legion Pro 7i takes the company's 16-inch gaming laptop line to new heights thanks to the power of Nvidia's RTX 50-series GPUs. The 240Hz OLED display makes everything you do on it look great, and when you factor in the elegant design and plentiful port array, you see why we think this is one of the best gaming laptops of 2025 so far.
Honestly, you won't go wrong with any of these recommendations. These are expensive machines, but well worth their respective prices.
Checking out what Reddit thinks are the best gaming laptops was a fun exercise. I want to commend user afficone for their choices, which generally provide great value for other users. You might do well as a computing writer, as it's clear you know your stuff! Kudos to you!
So, will I now start using Reddit? When it comes to checking the pulse of what folks think of the tech I review, I think I will. Seeing people's thoughts has been enlightening, and it should help me make better recommendations.

I test smartwatches for a living — 5 Apple Watch Ultra 3 upgrades I want to see

The debut of the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is likely right around the corner. This would make it the first new model in the Ultra series since 2023's Ultra 2, but what will the standout features be? From a bigger screen to more efficient power consumption to an onboard camera near the digital crown, there's no shortage of Apple Watch Ultra 3 rumors. And if even half of them pan out, Cupertino's next-gen premium wearable could be a major upgrade over previous models. But let's put rumors aside for a moment and talk about the upgrades that we, the users, actually want. As one of the lead smartwatch reviewers here at Tom's Guide, I've got no shortage of strong opinions, including several upgrades I'd like Apple to borrow from the competition. With that in mind, here are the five biggest Apple Watch Ultra 3 feature enhancements I'm hoping for come fall launch time. There have been a handful of leaks hinting at some sort of emergency communication feature coming to the Apple Watch Ultra 3 to assist users when off the grid or away from their phones. As both a smartwatch nerd and an outdoor adventure enthusiast, I'd love to see this one come to fruition. Of course, Apple isn't the only smartwatch maker rumored to be working on such a tool. Leaks suggest that Google might be working on something similar for the Pixel Watch 4. Either way, another peace-of-mind safety tool joining the likes of fall and crash detection would be a great addition to Apple's top-of-the-line smartwatch. It seems like every yet-to-launch smartwatch is rumored to debut a first-of-kind hypertension monitoring, yet none of the brands have cracked the code, just yet. Could the Apple Watch Ultra 3 be the first device that alerts users if their blood pressure is abnormally high? I'm hopeful. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Hypertension is a silent killer that often goes undiagnosed, similar to sleep apnea and atrial fibrillation (AFib). With the ability to monitor for potential signs of the condition, the Ultra 3 will become an even more powerful holistic tool, especially with the long-awaited return of SpO2 monitoring for U.S. customers. While the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is a capable sleep-tracker, despite its heft, Apple is the only major smartwatch maker that doesn't provide users with a daily numeric sleep score based on a combination of sleep metrics. Basically, all of the best smartwatch models, minus Apple, offer it. The best Garmin watches, Samsung smartwatches, and Pixel Watches all provide a sleep score from one to 100. Often based on total time spent asleep and time spent in deep sleep and REM versus light sleep, this metric can be especially handy at the start of the day. Got a low sleep score? Maybe today isn't the day to meet friends for cocktails after work. Similar to sleep scores, Apple is also one of the only smartwatch makers that doesn't provide users with some sort of daily energy level score, which tends to be based on a combination of recent sleep quality, physical activity, and overall health trends. Garmin watches have had the feature, called 'Body Battery,' since 2018, while Fitbit first introduced a similar 'Readiness Score' in 2021. Samsung's Energy Score is only a year old, having debuted on last year's Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra. Arguably more useful than the sleep score, keeping tabs on your energy levels can help you make informed decisions about the intensity of your workouts (or whether to even exercise at all) and even potentially help you spot incoming illnesses (low score despite lots of rest/health lifestyle). Last, but not least, I'd love to see Apple emulate Google's Loss of Pulse Detection feature. Similar to fall and crash detection, if a loss of pulse or abnormal pulse is registered in a user, the Pixel Watch 3 can automatically contact emergency services/loved ones and send for help. Right now, the Pixel Watch 3 is the only smartwatch on the market with this tool, but seeing as virtually every smartwatch feature gets lovingly duplicated eventually by the other big players — the folks at Google I chatted with fully expect this — I'd be thrilled to see the Apple Watch Ultra 3 debut with something comparable.

Find Hub is the next Google app to get an Expressive coat of paint (APK teardown)

Andy Walker / Android Authority TL;DR We've conducted a teardown of Google's Find Hub app and discovered a variety of visual changes. These tweaks are broadly in line with Google's push to adopt the Material 3 Expressive style. Google's Find Hub is your one-stop shop for tracking your devices, accessories, and even loved ones. Now, it looks like Google is bringing some Material 3 Expressive changes to this app as well. We conducted a teardown of the latest version of the Find Hub app (version 3.1.399-3) and managed to enable a variety of visual changes. These tweaks are all in line with Google's Material 3 Expressive style. You can view the screens below. Current New Current New Current New Current New For starters, the Device details page (screens one and two) now shows a centered image of your device. We also have larger, bolder headers, while the factory reset button is now encased in that distinctive pill-shaped box. Don't want to miss the best from Android Authority? Set us as a preferred source in Google Search to support us and make sure you never miss our latest exclusive reports, expert analysis, and much more. The contact info page (screens three and four) has seen the biggest changes. Google has ditched the 'Contact info' header in favor of 'Enter phone number and a message.' Furthermore, the device image and displayed email address have been removed, while the message box is much larger. Find Hub's map view has also undergone some changes, as we can see in the second row of images. The bottom sheet no longer shows pictures of your devices. However, the map view now shows your device images on the map itself instead of a generic device image. The settings and refresh buttons in the bottom sheet have also been tweaked and are now circular buttons. In any event, this isn't a groundbreaking design overhaul by any means. But it does suggest that Google is putting plenty of effort into ensuring that its Material 3 Expressive design covers as many of its apps as possible. That's welcome news for those of us who remember Google's relatively slow progress when it came to dark mode. This tweaked design isn't the only thing we found in Find Hub this week. It looks like you can soon add a home screen shortcut for specific people who are sharing their location with you. That's handy if you want a quick way to track a child or another loved one without wading through the app. We also recently got a better idea of how satellite-based location sharing will work. ⚠️ An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. Follow
