In the NIL era of college football, quarterbacks don't have to make the NFL to become millionaires. Signal-callers are reaching paydays in the multi-millions per season at the college level.

There's few better examples of that than former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck.
On3's Pete Nakos reported Sunday that Beck will make in excess of $4 million to play for the Miami Hurricanes this fall.
"One thing is clear: The price of an elite quarterback is not dropping," Nakos wrote. "In this year's college football transfer portal, jaw-dropping quarterback numbers included a $3 million offer from Duke for Darian Mensah.
"Georgia's Carson Beck transferred to Miami and stands to make more than $4 million. Missouri agreed to terms on a $1.5 million deal with Penn State transfer Beau Pribula in December, too."

The Bobby Carpenter Show host Anthony Schlegel said during the first week of June that Beck was going to make $4.3 million with his NIL deal in 2025.

Schlegel said that is ranked second-highest in college football behind only Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning.
Beck announced his decision to transfer from Georgia to Miami on January 10, which was just a little more than a week after the Bulldogs suffered their playoff defeat to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Beck didn't play in that game because of an elbow injury, which he sustained in the SEC Championship Game versus Texas.
During his final season with the Bulldogs, Beck completed 64.7% of his passes for 3,485 passing yards with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The quarterback posted significantly better statistics during 2023.

In Miami, Beck will replace quarterback Cam Ward, who became the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Over the past 25 college football seasons, the Alabama Crimson Tide have had no shortage of big moments on the national stage. That's what happens when you win six national championships in a span of 12 seasons, as Alabama did under coach Nick Saban from 2009-2020. The second closest to the Crimson Tide in hardware since the dawn of the 21st century: the LSU Tigers -- a program Saban helped build from a perennial underachiever -- and the Ohio State Buckeyes with three apiece. It's no surprise then that some of the biggest moments involving Alabama teams from Saban's 17 seasons in Tuscaloosa made their way onto ESPN's ranking of the top 25 college football plays since 2000. That includes both the joys from Alabama's victories as well as the anguish in their defeats. A total of five plays featuring Alabama football made ESPN's list. Here's a breakdown of Alabama's appearances in ESPN's top 25 college football plays from the first quarter of the 21st century. '2nd and 26': Tua Tagovailoa to DeVonta Smith touchdown ranked Alabama's best play Alabama has no shortage of thrilling moments that fans can describe in graphic detail from the snap of the ball until the final whistle, but ESPN ranked '2nd and 26' against Georgia in the College Football Playoff National Championship on Jan. 8, 2018 at No. 4 overall on its list. Tua Tagovailoa's dagger to DeVonta Smith in overtime gave Alabama a 26-23 win and its fifth championship in eight years. A total of three plays on ESPN's list came against Saban teams, including one that cost Alabama a national championship and another that denied them a chance to play for one. Topping ESPN's list was Auburn's 'Kick Six' from 2013. Chris Davis' 109-yard return for a touchdown was named the single best college football play of the past 25 years. Behind 'Kick Six' was Texas A&M star Johnny Manziel's first-quarter escape for a 10-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Swope against Alabama in November 2012. The play, in which Manziel ran into a defender, bobbled the ball, and then rolled out of the pocket for the touchdown was ranked No. 12 on ESPN's list. The Aggies held off a furious Alabama rally to escape with a 29-24 win. Directly behind Manziel's banner day in Tuscaloosa was the play that denied Alabama a chance at a second straight title. Hunter Renfrow's game-winning touchdown with one second left on the clock at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium in the 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship gave the Clemson Tigers a 35-31 win over Alabama. Ohio State launches 'Buckeye Sports Group' to enhance NIL opportunities
Ohio State is officially bringing its NIL collectives in-house. According to multiple reports, Ohio State's athletic department is teaming up with Learfield's Ohio State Sports Properties to form "Buckeye Sports Group," an initiative designed to support and enhance NIL opportunities for Ohio State athletes. This news comes on the heels of the House v. NCAA settlement being formally approved, in return, paving the way for schools to now begin paying their athletes millions of dollars as soon as next month. The terms of the House settlement include approval for each school to share up to $20.5 million with athletes over the next year and $2.7 billion that will be paid over the next decade to thousands of former players who were barred from that revenue for years. With the creation of the "Buckeye Sports Group," Ohio State will now consolidate the school's two existing NIL collectives, the 1870 Society and The Foundation. The partnership with Learfield will allow Buckeye athletes to access the sports marketing companies' NIL technology, which will in return assist athletes with brand deals, corporate partnerships and personal brand development in a more organized manner. "Ohio State has always been a leader in college athletics, and this initiative is another step forward to build upon our strong NIL foundation," Ohio State's Deputy Director of Athletics Carey Hoyt said in a release, announcing the NIL partnership. "By combining the power of our athletic brand with Learfield's expansive network, we are creating an innovative, full-service approach to NIL that directly benefits our student-athletes." Moving forward, financial agreements reached between athletes and third parties won't count toward an athletic department's annual cap, though any deal greater than $600 is now subject to approval by NIL Go, an online clearinghouse within the College Sports Commission, a freshly formed regulatory body created in response to the House v. NCAA lawsuit. Ohio State has already been at the forefront when it comes to success in the NIL space. Sophomore wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has a reported NIL valuation of $4.2 million according to On3, which ranks third-highest among all college athletes, and he's inked notable deals with Nintendo, Red Bull and Lulelemon. Smith was recently unveiled as a co-cover star athlete for "College Football 26." Fellow Buckeye football standout Caleb Downs has already had remarkable NIL success as well, carrying an NIL valuation of $2.4 million, which also ranks among the top valuations in college athletics. Downs, who transferred to Ohio State from Alabama following Nick Saban's retirement in 2024, has partnerships with Panini, Beats by Dre and American Eagle. "As we enter a new era for college athletics, we're excited to build on our past successes and create even more meaningful NIL opportunities for Ohio State student-athletes," Vice President & General Manager of Learfield's Ohio State Sports Properties Todd Knisley said in the release. "With the strength of Buckeye Nation behind us, we're able to unlock incremental opportunities for partnerships on a local, regional, and national scale."
