After the flames were extinguished, the body of 67-year-old Donald Robert was found inside the home.
Officers deemed the circumstances surrounding his death as suspicious and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit took over the case.
Police said a witness reported seeing someone running away from the home with their clothing on fire.
RCMP said on Wednesday, a girl and a boy were arrested and charged with both manslaughter and arson – disregard for human life.

An RCMP vehicle is seen in Richmond, B.C., in this undated image. (Shutterstock) Mounties in Richmond are asking people sharing video of an alleged arsonist online to contact investigators directly if they haven't already. A person of interest has been identified in the incident, which occurred around 1:20 a.m. Sunday at a store in the 8300 block of Granville Avenue, Richmond RCMP said in a news release Tuesday. An employee reported the fire, which had allegedly been deliberately set outside the building, according to police, who said no one was injured in the arson attempt. Firefighters extinguished the blaze. 'Our investigators are aware of footage circulating on social media,' said Cpl. Melissa Lui, in the news release. 'While we appreciate the concern being shown, we ask anyone who has video footage or information about this incident to contact police investigators directly. Sharing information with us will ensure it becomes part of the official investigation and helps hold those responsible accountable.' Those with information to share should call Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 25-26618, police said. Tips can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers.

RCMP search for missing driver in Westphal car crash

Social Sharing RCMP are asking for public assistance to find a man who fled the scene of a single-vehicle crash on the weekend in Westphal, N.S. An RCMP news release Tuesday said officers who responded to the 200 block of Lake Major Road at roughly 1:09 a.m. Saturday learned a Pontiac Grand Prix had sped into a power pole, severing it. The car then struck a parked dump truck and another pole before catching fire. The driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, was seen running into the nearby woods before police arrived. A subsequent search of the area failed to locate the man. Investigators say anyone with information should contact Halifax RCMP at 902-490-5020 or Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
