Wondering what Easter eggs and hidden callbacks are tucked into debut episodes? The first two chapters pack in nods to classic moments, iconic props, and familiar names from across the franchise. From Weyland-Yutani tech to Peter Pan-themed character names, each detail connects the new series to its cinematic roots.
Here are all the major Easter eggs spotted in Alien: Earth episodes 1 and 2.
All major easter eggs spotted in Alien: Earth episodes 1 and 2
The opening titles
The show opens with an electronic beep from the Nostromo in 1979's Alien, followed by titles that slowly fade in, replicating the original film's style. The USCSS Maginot is a Weyland-Yutani science vessel. It shares interior design elements with the Nostromo, including its mess hall, cryo chamber, and bridge.
MU-TH-UR/MOTHER
Morrow has high-level access to Weyland-Yutani's MU-TH-UR AI, the same system Ash used in Alien. Before Marcie's consciousness transfer into Wendy's synthetic body, she asks if she will dream, echoing Newt's 'Can I dream?' line in Aliens.
Callback to Jonesy the cat
The Maginot carries a ginger cat similar to Ripley's pet Jonesy from Alien and Aliens. Other references include a space station collision that may precede the construction of Gateway Station seen in Aliens.
Ice Age and Peter Pan
Joe watches Ice Age: Continental Drift before the Maginot's crash, later quoting, 'Have a heart or face my fury!' Marcie's transformation sequence shows clips from Disney's Peter Pan (1953), with Wendy's name referencing Wendy Darling, and her squad named after the Lost Boys.
Rifles from the past
Search and rescue teams carry weapons resembling the M41A Pulse Rifle from Aliens, complete with ammo counters but lacking grenade launchers. They also appear to have a possible M56 Smartgun. Dead Facehuggers in jars recall Aliens' Hadley's Hope scene.
Mr. October
Episode 2's title references baseball player Reggie Jackson's nickname earned during the 1977 World Series. Incident code 1562 denotes alien involvement, and Slightly notes hybrids dislike the term 'synthetic,' similar to Bishop in Aliens.
The blue mist
Eggs aboard the Maginot emit a blue membrane, previously seen on LV-426 in Alien and in Alien: Romulus. The Xenomorph attacks Joe only after he disturbs this membrane.
The Lost Boys
Wendy's squad members, Slightly, Curly, Smee, Tootles, and Nibs, are all named after Peter Pan characters, continuing the series' Neverland theme.
Weyland-Yutani
Weyland-Yutani controls the Americas, Mars, and Saturn. In Alien: Earth, Yutani leads the company and wants the USCSS Maginot's alien specimens, calling them her 'birthright.'

'Freakier Friday' director wants to see these hunks in each other's bodies for next film

The director of Freakier Friday is already brainstorming for a third film, and her ideas definitely lend themselves to a pretty freaky outcome! The long-awaited sequel to the 2003 Disney film starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis hit theaters earlier this month. While the first movie (one of four film adaptations of a children's novel) centers around mom and daughter accidentally swapping bodies, the sequel gets a little more complicated. Adding a third generation into the mix, Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) swap bodies with Anna's daughter, Harper (Julia Butters), and soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily (Sophia Hammons). Also in the mix are Manny Jacinto as Eric, Anna's fiancé, and Chad Michael Murray, reprising his role as Anna's ex-boyfriend, Jake. So what would a Freakiest Friday look like? "I mean, more swaps, right?" director Nisha Ganatra recently told ScreenRant. "Probably a six-way swap. We'd definitely have Manny Jacinto and Chad Michael Murray switching places. We all need that!" Ganatra is hardly the first person to ruminate on what Freakiest Friday might look like. Folks on the internet have already been busy tossing their own ideas — and worries — into the mix. "Freakiest Friday should be that scene from Scooby-Doo (2002) where everyone keeps switching bodies for 100 mins" "Pitching Freakiest Friday, where the mind swaps keep progressing up and down the lineage. A girl in 2050 swaps minds with her great great grandmother in 1910. The mind of a wizened matron of the Bell Beakers is swapped with her prehensile tailed zero-G adapted spacer descendent" "freakiest friday will complete the trilogy -- chad michael murray has gone full villain. he successfully seduces JLC and ends her marriage. then changes body w hilary duff, and reignites the old feud by stalking and barraging lilo w vague threats" "Third movie: Freakiest Friday Fourth movie: Freaky 4 Friday Fifth movie: Freaky 5day" "I don't know how much fun Freakiest Friday will be in another 20-some years when Lohan's character is suffering early onset dementia and Curtis's character is dead." Curtis and Lohan have also both weighed in on the future of the Freaky Friday franchise in recent months. During an interview with Today FM, Curtis expressed an interest in completing the trilogy with a fourth generation involved. "If Harper has a child, and/or Lily, or if both of them have children and they're both 15, and I'm a great grandma, Lindsay would be a grandma," she suggested. "What a trilogy for Disney to have, right?" Meanwhile, when asked about the possibility of a third film happening, Lohan seemed optimistic. "Between Jamie and I, it's pretty real," she said. Timothy Olyphant's 8 Greatest Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror Roles

After Deadwood and Justified, Timothy Olyphant will forever be linked first and foremost to Westerns. And while he's clearly aware of that—playing off that association in roles that veer into other genres—he's also a versatile star who's popped up in comedies and dramas, as well as the sci-fi, horror, and fantasy tales we cover at io9. Here are our eight favorite genre roles so far, starting with his current project… The newly launched FX sci-fi series is mapping out a fresh small-screen story for the Alien movie universe, with plenty of familiar callbacks for film fans. Nearly unrecognizable with pale hair and carefully blank eyes, Olyphant plays Kirsh, a synthetic who seems sympathetic enough after the first two episodes. But will he end up being more of a manipulative Ash or a heroic Bishop? It's been nearly 30 years since Olyphant's mainstream breakthrough in Scream 2. When the first film's Final Girl heads to college, the slashing briefly screeches to a halt for a scene set in a film studies class, with Olyphant playing an outspoken nerd with strong pop-culture opinions (Aliens comes up in the discussion, as does Terminator 2—long before Olyphant's involvement in either franchise). Multi-decade spoiler here, but he's also unmasked one of the film's Ghostfaces, a freelance maniac enlisted by the main killer to help with her revenge scheme. When Stephen King fans think of the best adaptations of his work, Dreamcatcher is traditionally not a top-tier ranker. But if you're rounding up the weirdest King adaptations, this 2003 film would certainly lead the pack. Olyphant co-stars with Jason Lee, Damian Lewis, and Thomas Jane as lifelong friends linked by psychic powers who must battle both terrifying aliens and, in a rare villainous role, Morgan Freeman as a military colonel obsessed with containing the extraterrestrial threat. Hollywood sometimes remembers that George A. Romero made films beyond his zombie series, which explains why 1973's The Crazies got a 2010 remake. Olyphant leads a decent sci-fi horror tale as a small-town sheriff scrambling to survive after his community is accidentally inundated by a biological weapon that makes nearly everyone act like a lunatic. The government tries to do damage control and predictably makes things worse. It's not unlike a zombie movie, in other words. This entry recognizes Olyphant's many guest roles across animated films and TV (Archer, The Simpsons, Rick and Morty, etc.), but we chose this 2011 release because he plays 'the Spirit of the West,' a mystical advice-giver, and the casting clearly leans into his fame as a Western star. HE PLAYS HIMSELF! Or, a version of himself, anyway. When the gang needs to convince Gen the Judge (an Olyphant superfan) to rethink that whole 'reset the entire universe' thing, Janet conjures a convivial version of the star, complete with cowboy hat, to help Eleanor and company make their case. (It works.) Two Star Wars shows, one Olyphant. He played Cobb Vanth, the marshal roaming Tatooine in Boba Fett's famous armor—who later calls upon the Mandalorian's help when his town gets caught in a crossfire of bad guys and even badder bounty hunters. Yes, it's another lawman role… but a very different sort of wild, wild west. Netflix's Terminator anime was cool in many, many ways—including the fact that its English-language cast featured Olyphant as its Terminator. Want more io9 news? Mr. X-Toon, animator who turned Disney into gay fantasy, has died

Mr. X-Toon (NSFW artwork at that link), whose gay Disney-inspired porn edits and animations often went viral online, has passed away, according to an online report. Mr. X-Toon's popular animations would depict male Disney characters in romantic pairings like Tarzan and Milo from Atlantis, Kristoff from Frozen and Flynn from Tangled, Hercules and Aladdin, and more. The videos were distinct for their high-quality animation and voice acting — as well as large penises with graphic gay sex. Because of his ability to make high-quality gay porn animations featuring popular characters from Disney and other animated films, Mr. X-Toon's videos have gone viral and become a part of internet lore and culture. Now, a post shared by a person claiming to be "a close friend of David," the real name of the animator, says that he died July 25. The cause of death was not disclosed. "I'm Daniel, a close friend of David, widely known as 'mrxtoon' on the internet. He was an extraordinary friend, a brilliant artist, a family man, and a source of joy in our lives," the statement reads. "His artistry was unparalleled, and his dedication to his fans to give more was truly inspiring. He loved his fan, family, and creating art above all else." "Though words can't capture this feeling, I'm heartbroken to share that David passed away on July 25, at 7:30 pm alone in his residency," it continues. "My heart still grieves as I inform his fans and friends of this devastating news. I seek closure in this difficult time. I hope David finds peace in eternity. You'll be deeply missed, bud." Tributes to the animator have poured in online.
