BJP appeals global community to denounce vandalism of Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home in Bangaldesh
New Delhi [India], June 12 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sambit Patra on Thursday called on the global community to denounce the reported vandalism of Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral home situated in Bangladesh.
Patra stated that Rabindranath Tagore's ancient home in Bangladesh was attacked by some miscreants on Tuesday (June 10).
Addressing media persons at the BJP headquarters in the national capital, Patra said, 'Rabindranath Tagore's ancestral house, located in Bangladesh, was attacked and damaged... His Kacharibari, built by his grandfather, has been attacked. We are getting to know that the people of Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam carried out this attack. It is also coming to light that this was a pre-planned attack. For five days, it was planned that the house of Rabindranath Tagore, the foundation and pillar of our civilisation and culture of Bengal, would be attacked so that they could send a big message to the world. It was a planned attack.'
'Rabindranath Tagore is no ordinary personality. When his house was attacked, his way of thinking was attacked; we appeal to the world community to come together against this. This is the appeal of the BJP, a party that believes in inclusiveness. We are making a global call to all countries that value morality, creativity, and culture. 'Everyone should come together to condemn what has happened today in Bangladesh,' he added.
Patra further condemned the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus, saying that the international monument could not be protected.
'Today's topic is about Bangladesh. We are not intruding on any international domain. But this is Rabindranath Tagore's topic, so the BJP takes it very seriously and sensitively. The behaviour of the interim government of Muhammad Yunus is not right. The international monument could not be protected,' he said.
'We appeal to the world community to come together against this. This is the appeal of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which believes in inclusivity, a party that believes in the mantra of Sabka Sath Sabka Vikas, Sabka Prayas. We are giving a global call to all the countries that value morality, the countries that value civilizational thoughts, the country that values creativity and the countries that value culture. Nagpur: Former corporators and aspiring candidates have intensified their criticism of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) administration. They hold the absence of elected representation over the last three years responsible for the decline in civic services in the city. People had no voice," Pethe told TOI. Abha Pande, a former independent corporator, said that citizens were left directionless. "Earlier, people could approach corporators even for minor issues. In the last three years, there's been no one to listen to them. Officers are not answerable, and complaints related to sewer lines, garbage collection, and potholes remained pending. This is not how a city should function," she said. Adding to the growing list of voices, Abhijit Jha, a first-time poll aspirant, alleged large-scale corruption during the administrator's tenure. "Public money was misused. Tenders were awarded without transparency. Key services like sewage repair and roadwork were not prioritised. Senior BJP leader and former corporator Vijay Zalke also admitted that the absence of elected representatives contributed to growing public anger. "Irrespective of the party in power, people always look to corporators first. For three years, the administrative system operated without ground-level feedback. This disconnect has hurt the city. It's time an elected body returns so that governance becomes responsive again," he said. All voices, regardless of political affiliation, stressed the urgency of reinstating an elected general body to restore public accountability. "Only corporators understand the pulse of their wards. Administrative rule may work in smaller towns, but Nagpur needs its local representatives back," Pande added. While the state govt has recently initiated the ward redesign process—set to be carried out by a high-powered committee headed by the municipal commissioner—ex-corporators warn that any further delay in civic polls will only deepen public frustration. "The people of Nagpur deserve elected representatives and responsive governance. Civic polls must happen without delay," Pethe said.

Haveri: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) named a new district president for Haveri, with former MLA Virupakshappa Ballari taking over from Ranebennur's former MLA Arunkumar Pujar, who took office on Feb 1, 2024. Shiv Sena targets membership of more than 1 lakh per assembly constituency in city
Nashik: The Shiv Sena Nashik city unit has initiated a membership drive to ensure one lakh new members in each of the three assembly constituencies in the city. The enrolment drive was formally launched by Shiv Sena industry minister Uday Samant and education minister Dada Bhuse at its central office on Friday. The BJP, which is one of the constituents of the Mahayuti, has already carried out its membership drive in the city. The Shiv Sena is also attempting to reach the masses and get citizens to sign up for party membership. "The membership drive is aimed at strengthening the party base.
