Chief suspect in murder of vulnerable Dublin woman (28) fled country before body was found
The chief suspect for the murder of a 28-year-old woman had already fled the country on a ferry before her body was found in a wood in west Dublin, garda investigations have established.
Yesterday, officers made a fresh appeal for information in the case of vulnerable woman Linda Evans Christian eight years after her body was found at Coolmine Woods in Blanchardstown.
The Irish Independent has learned that the suspect was well known to Ms Evans Christian and had been in communication with her for many months before she was murdered.
One line in the investigation is that the suspect 'preyed' on the victim, who suffered from mental health issues.
He was arrested by gardaí in 2018 when he returned to Dublin but was later released without charge due to lack of evidence.
Ms Evans Christian was last seen at around 9am on June 24, 2017, when she left the James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown where she was receiving treatment.

She was reported missing by her family on July 1 and her badly decomposed body was found 16 days later in an area of undergrowth between Clonsilla Road and Snugborough Road.
The suspect in the case is a Romanian national who had been living at the time in the Mountjoy area of Dublin's north inner city.
'He had been identified when this was still a missing persons case as he was seen leaving the hospital with her on the day she was last seen alive – they were well known to each other,' a source said.
'Even before Linda's body was found, gardaí had visited where he had lived and it became clear that he had left Ireland less than 48 hours after she was last seen alive.'
Gardaí have established that Ms Evans Christian left the Ash Ward at the hospital with a man at 9.08am on Saturday June 24.
She was also seen with the same man at 9.24am at the junction of Church Avenue and Main Street in Blanchardstown.
In August 2017, detectives travelled to Romania to speak to the chief suspect in the case after he failed to return to Ireland.
Detectives have also travelled to the UK as part of the probe.
An exact cause of death was never established for Ms Evans Christian, who was fostered by the Christian family early in life and spent her first few years with them, living in their home on Hadleigh Green in Castleknock.
However gardaí believe she died a violent death.
In a statement yesterday, An Garda Siochana said: 'Despite an extensive garda investigation and a number of enquiries followed, including the arrest of a male in 2018, no one has been brought to justice for Linda's murder.
'Gardaí and Linda's family are appealing for people to come forward to assist with the investigation.
'An Garda Síochána would encourage anyone with any information regarding Linda's disappearance and murder, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to make contact with the investigation team.'

Man arrested after probationer garda stabbed in Dublin city centre
A man in his 20s has been arrested after a probationer garda was attacked in Dublin city centre this evening. The incident took place on Capel Street just after 6pm. The garda who was on a high visibility patrol was attacked and stabbed in what gardaí say was an unprovoked attack. He was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening. The garda has since been discharged following treatment. In a post on X, An Garda Síochána said: "There is no ongoing threat to public safety." A man has been arrested and is being detained in connection with the attack. The man, who is an Irish citizen and born in Ireland, can be questioned for up to 24 hours. In a statement, the Garda Representative Association's Vice President Niall Hodgins said: "This young probationary member was subject to a quite terrifying and unprovoked attack and only for his bravery and that of his colleagues this incident could have resulted in far worse and unthinkable consequences. "Our job is tough. Our members continually run towards situations that others must flee from. But there is never, ever, an excuse for being exposed to such acts of random violence. "The attacks being visited upon our members is shocking and we will never accept that being assaulted is being part of our job. More needs to be done to create a safer working environment where the risk of assault is reduced." Speaking tonight, Assistant Commissioner for the Dublin Metropolitan Region, Paul Cleary said: "I speak for all of An Garda Síochána in Dublin when I say that our thoughts are very much with our colleague who is recovering tonight. Dubliner Justin Kelly (53) to become Garda commissioner after rise through ranks
An Garda Síochána 's Deputy Commissioner, Justin Kelly, is to take over at the top of the force when Garda Commissioner Drew Harris retires at the end of August. Mr Kelly's appointment as the next commissioner was approved by Government yesterday after a recommendation from Minister for Justice Jim O'Callaghan . Mr Kelly, a 53-year-old married father of two from south Dublin , joined An Garda Síochána as a recruit in 1992 and has, in recent years led the organisation's response to serious and organised crime. He will become garda commissioner just 10 months after being promoted to the rank of deputy commissioner, the second most senior position in Irish policing. Mr Kelly, a marathon runner, has been appointed commissioner on a five-year contract, with a salary of €314,512. He was one of 14 candidates who applied for the role when an international recruitment process opened in May. Mr O'Callaghan said Mr Kelly was an ideal candidate for commissioner, given his vast experience in frontline policing and management. The Minister spoke of his belief that 'people want to see more gardaí on the ground'. He had 'built coalitions with other law enforcement agencies and partners that have disrupted and dismantled transnational organised crime gangs'. The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors said resignations and retirements from An Garda Síochána were currently high , putting policing under pressure, with low morale. It called on Mr Kelly to take 'urgent action to stabilise the workforce and restore confidence in the future of the organisation'.
