Yemen Online19-05-2025

The US and UAE have agreed to establish a major defense partnership, Washington and Abu Dhabi announced on Monday.
This follows the designation of the UAE as a major defense partner by the Biden administration last year.
The letter of intent was signed between the UAE's Minister of State for Defense Affairs, Mohammed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, and Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth last week.
'This LOI represents a shared commitment to develop a structured roadmap that will guide enhanced military-to-military cooperation, joint capability development, and long-term defense alignment between the two nations,' the joint statement read.
'The two sides will explore a phased framework for advancing bilateral force readiness, interoperability, and innovation-driven collaboration.'
Hegseth also announced a strategic initiative between the US Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and the UAE's Tawazun Council to deepen ties in defense innovation, increase joint research and expand industrial and investment partnerships across the defense sectors of both countries.
Separately, the UAE was welcomed into the US National Guard State Partnership Program (SPP) through a partnership with the Texas National Guard.
This will increase military modernization efforts and enhance cooperation in integrated air and missile defense, cybersecurity, disaster response, and operational planning, according to the statement.
'The designation of the UAE as a Major Defense Partner reflects a decades-long relationship anchored in mutual trust, shared objectives, and a common commitment to regional and global security,' the statement said.

Media: US DF won't attend Defense Contact Group meeting on Ukraine

Washington - Saba: Western media outlets reported, citing a US official, that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will not attend the meeting of the International Military Assistance Coordination Group for Ukraine, scheduled for Wednesday. The Associated Press quoted the unidentified official as saying that Hegseth will also not participate via videoconference and will arrive in Brussels late Wednesday, after the Contact Group meeting concludes. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Tuesday that Hegseth was scheduled to travel to Belgium and France this week to participate in the NATO Defense Ministers' meeting and Victory Day commemorations. However, it was not stated whether the Pentagon chief planned to attend the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting, scheduled for June 4 at NATO headquarters. This is the first time since the United States formed the Defense Contact Group on Ukraine that a US Secretary of Defense will miss the group's meeting, which will be attended by more than 50 other defense officials. Palestinian Mujahideen Movement: Miller's confession exposes deceptive American role

Gaza – Saba: The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement said that "the admission by former US State Department spokesman Miller that the Zionist entity committed war crimes in Gaza is an admission that condemns the Zionist occupation and confirms the Biden administration's full partnership in these crimes, as it provided it with international cover and unlimited support." In a statement, on Tuesday evening, the movement considered that "this admission exposes the deceptive American role regarding efforts to stop the war and its support for the extremist Zionist government in continuing its crimes of genocide and ethnic cleansing against our people in Gaza." It added: "This admission must be used as legal evidence to prosecute the US administration, the Zionist entity, and all those complicit in committing war crimes in Gaza. We also call on international institutions to fulfill their role in holding accountable those involved in the ongoing killing of our Palestinian people in Gaza." Whatsapp Telegram Email Print

Yemen : "Billions Spent, Limited Impact" ... The Cost of the US War on Houthi Sites

The United States has spent nearly $1 billion on military operations against Iran-backed Houthi militants in Yemen, yet the attacks have had limited impact on dismantling the group's capabilities. Since launching the offensive on March 15, the US military has deployed hundreds of millions of dollars worth of munitions, including JASSM long-range cruise missiles, JSOW glide bombs, and Tomahawk missiles. Despite these efforts, intelligence reports indicate that Houthi stockpiles remain largely intact, allowing the group to continue targeting ships in the Red Sea. The Pentagon may need to request additional funding from Congress to sustain the operation, but bipartisan criticism has cast doubt on whether such funding will be approved. Meanwhile, the Houthis have mocked the US, highlighting the disparity in costs—Washington is reportedly launching $2 million defense missiles to intercept $2,000 Houthi drones. As the conflict drags on, concerns grow over the long-term financial burden and the strategic effectiveness of the US military campaign. Defense officials acknowledge that while some Houthi leadership figures have been eliminated, the group continues to fortify underground bunkers and maintain weapons stockpiles.
