FMs of Egypt, Germany discuss over phone Gaza developments
Minister Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's categorical rejection of the Israeli ministerial council's decision to expand military operations in Gaza and to entrench the Israeli occupation of the Strip, stressing that it poses grave dangers and will lead to further deterioration and instability in Gaza.
He emphasized the need for a clear stance on this decision and urged the European Union to move quickly to halt the dangerous Israeli escalation.
Abdelatty stated that the Israeli decision aims to cement Israel's illegal occupation of Palestinian territories, reiterating Egypt's total rejection of the policy of starvation and systematic killing of the Palestinian people. He explained that Israel's repeated violations constitute a blatant breach of international law and international humanitarian law.
In this context, the Foreign Minister praised the German government's announcement to suspend arms and military equipment exports to Israel that could be used in military operations inside the Gaza Strip.
Abdelatty briefed his German counterpart on Egypt's ongoing efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the Strip, stressing the need for Israel to stop placing obstacles in the way of humanitarian and relief aid.
The Foreign Minister also discussed the ongoing arrangements for Egypt to host the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza once a ceasefire agreement is reached.
For his part, the German Foreign Minister expressed full appreciation for Egypt's intensive efforts to achieve a ceasefire and to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
Wadephul commended Egypt's efforts to host the early recovery and reconstruction conference, affirming Germany's keenness to participate at a high level and to act as a co-sponsor of the conference, given Germany's strong interest in early recovery and reconstruction.
He also agreed on the grave danger posed by the expansion of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip. (MENA)

Adelegation from the peace advocacy group The Elders said the Israeli killing and starving of Gaza "must end now" after they inspected shocking amounts of food and medicine in Egyptian warehouses in North Sinai, ready to enter the strip to stem famine conditions. In a visit to Egyptian Red Crescent warehouses in Arish, the Elders delegation, led by Helen Clark, former prime minister of New Zealand and Mary Robinson, former Ireland president, saw massive quantities of food and medical supplies, including basic medicines such as ibuprofen, stacked and ready for delivery to Gaza but blocked by Israeli authorities. In a stop at the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza, closed by the Israelis, the delegation listened to accounts from truck drivers who said their vehicles have been turned back by Israeli authorities multiple times without a plausible explanation. The Elders' visit to North Sinai comes amid growing international condemnation of the Israeli genocidal and starvation policies against 2.3 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Palestinian health authorities say more than 212 Palestinians, including nearly 100 children, have starved to death due to the Israeli blockade of the enclave. In tandem, the Israeli war in Gaza has killed and wounded more than 210,000 Palestinians and all but levelled the strip since October 2023. The Egyptian Red Crescent, in collaboration with the UN and its humanitarian partners, have sent 12 aid convoys to Gaza since 27 July to stem the unfolding famine among 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza due to the five-month-old Israeli blockade on the strip. They heard stories of patients in Gaza undergoing surgical operations without anaesthesia, as well as parents struggling to feed themselves and their children. North Sinai Governor Khaled Megahed assured the Elders delegation that the Egyptian health ministry is mobilizing all available resources for the treatment of Palestinian wounded and patients. The governor stressed to the Elders that the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza remains open from the Egyptian side, while Israeli authorities continue to close the Palestinian side of the crossing, effectively halting the flow of life-saving aid. Media advocacy groups blast Israeli murder of Al Jazeera journalists in Gaza - War on Gaza
Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) condemned on Monday the acknowledged murder by the Israeli army of Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif and four of his colleagues in Gaza. Dismissing Israel's claim that al-Sharif was a "terrorist" affiliated with Hamas, the press freedom campaign group told AFP he was "one of the most famous journalists from the Gaza Strip (and) the voice of the sufferng Israel has imposed on Palestinians in Gaza". The NGO "strongly and angrily condemns the acknowledged murder by the Israeli army" of al-Sharif and other journalists in a Sunday strike on their tent in Gaza City, it added. Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera said Sunday that five of its journalists had been killed in an Israeli strike. Al-Sharif, 28, was one of the channel's most recognisable faces working on the ground in Gaza, providing daily reports in regular coverage. He was killed alongside fellow correspondent Mohammed Qreiqeh and camera operators Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa, Al Jazeera said. The Israeli military said it had targeted al-Sharif, saying he "posed as a journalist" but was in fact "the head of a terrorist cell... responsible for advancing rocket attacks." RSF called the Israeli allegations "baseless". Almost 200 journalists have been killed in the war Israel launched on Gaza , according to RSF. The RSF has filed four complaints against Israel at the International Criminal Court for alleged "war crimes committed against journalists in Gaza". "In (Sunday's) deliberate attack, the Israeli army reproduced a known method already tested, notably against al-Jazeera journalists," RSF said, pointing to the killings of two reporters on July 31 last year. Israel labelled one of those men, Ismail al-Ghoul, a "terrorist". RSF called on other countries to intervene, saying the UN Security Council should meet to insist on protection of journalists in conflict zones. "Without strong action from the international community to stop the Israeli army... we're likely to witness more such extrajudicial murders of media professionals," RSF said. In tandem, another media advocacy group, the Committee to Protect Journalists, slammed on Monday the Israeli strike that killed several Al Jazeera staff in Gaza overnight, saying journalists should never be targeted in war. "Journalists are civilians. They must never be targeted in war. And to do so is a war crime," Jodie Ginsberg, chief executive of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), told AFP. The CPJ in July called for the protection of Anas al-Sharif, one of the journalists killed in the Israeli strike, after an Israeli military spokesman claimed he was a militant, accusing Israel of a "pattern" of labelling journalists militants "without providing credible evidence". "International law is clear that active combatants are the only justified targets in a war setting," Ginsberg said. "So unless the IDF can demonstrate that Anas al-Sharif was still an active combatant, then there is no justification for his killing," she said, using an acronym for the Israeli military. German Airports See 16% Drop in Passenger Numbers
Israa Farhan Passenger traffic through German airports rose by 2.8% in the first half of this year, yet the commercial aviation sector in Germany continues to face significant challenges, according to the German Aviation Association. Data shows that German airports handled a total of 99.4 million passengers between January and June 2025. However, this figure remains around 16% below the pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019. In the same period last year, passenger numbers had increased by 10%. The German Aviation Association highlighted that Germany is lagging behind other European countries, attributing this to high taxes and airport fees. As a result, airlines are withdrawing aircraft from German airports and deploying them to more cost-competitive locations in other European countries. Low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and easyJet have removed roughly one in three aircraft that were previously based in Germany since 2019. Out of 190 planes in their German fleets, only 130 remain stationed in the country. Industry leaders warn that this trend is not only reducing Germany's international connectivity but is also causing economic losses worth billions. Each medium-haul aircraft supports about 170 jobs and contributes approximately 70 million euros to the nation's gross domestic product. To align with more competitive European markets, the association has called for government passenger fees, currently around 35 euros per traveler, to be cut by half.
