Punjab outraged over YouTuber Dhruv Rathee's AI depiction of Sikh Gurus
Dhruv Rathee
has come under fire from political leaders in Punjab for allegedly using artificial intelligence to depict
Sikh Gurus
in a video posted to his channel, prompting accusations of hurting religious sentiments and distorting history.
The video — titled 'The Sikh Warrior Who Terrified the Mughals' —was removed after drawing widespread backlash. The
Shiromani Akali Dal
(SAD) as well as Punjab's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit condemned the content, calling it a violation of Sikh religious principles and a misuse of technology for sensationalism.
Punjab BJP spokesperson Pritpal Singh Baliawal sent a formal complaint to information and broadcasting minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to press for legal action under the Information Technology Act and other laws for "promoting enmity between communities".
He also requested that Rathee's accounts be suspended on YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), and Meta platforms until an investigation was complete.
Baliawal wrote: "This video recreated dramatised visuals of our revered Gurus, which is forbidden strictly under Sikh tenets as outlined by the Akal Takht. It distorts history, misleads viewers, and is offensive deeply to Sikhs globally." He has said that sacrificing religious sensitivity for digital popularity undermines national unity and the ethical responsibilities of online creators.

SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal echoed the concerns in a post on X, calling the video disrespectful and full of historical inaccuracies. "These portrayals violate Sikh rehat maryada, which prohibits visual representations of Guru Sahiban, and have hurt the sentiments of the community deeply," he said. Sukhbir urged content creators to approach religious topics with reverence and accuracy, and demanded the permanent removal of the video.
Rathee had not commented publicly on the controversy at the time of writing.

'Facing Love Jihad Threat': Assam Chief Minister's Independence Day Message
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has claimed that 'illegal infiltration' - seen by many as a reference to Bengali-speaking Muslims - poses an "existential threat" to the northeastern state's indigenous communities. Mr Sarma also claimed Assam is engaged in 'a battle to keep the identity of the indigenous people alive'. "We are facing everything from love jihad to land jihad," the BJP leader declared during his Independence Day speec, calling on Assamese communities to 'defend' their heritage. "The spirit of the tricolour brought people together as we celebrate the country's 79th Independence Day... in an atmosphere of peace and backed by solid progress achieved over the last few years. I urge everyone to always uphold the pride of the nation," Mr Sarma said on X, declaring Assam had 'compromised with infiltrators' for 78 years and allowed 'certain demographic changes' to take root. The bureaucracy under previous governments have a lot to answer for - as to how such a mind boggling scale of encroachment by infiltrators was allowed in Assam. #IndependenceDay — Himanta Biswa Sarma (@himantabiswa) August 15, 2025 "If we remain silent, in the next decade we will lose our identity, our land, and everything. Even the Kamakhya Temple hills could be encroached if we don't react now," he warned. Appealing to indigenous residents to not sell any land to 'unknown buyers', he said his government had granted land rights to indigenous people to strengthen community ownership. "We have already compromised in many districts. As a proud Assamese, I am not ready to compromise anymore. Our fight now will inspire the next generation to keep our identity alive." The Chief Minister also accused some of 'surrendering to infiltrators'. "To stop them, we have declared war on their aggression. I promise that we will evict the unknown people from every piece of grazing land, tribal belt and government land," he said. "These unknown people are advancing to capture political power now, after almost capturing economic power. They have captured every sphere of the construction sector." The Chief Minister's sharp remarks echo those made this time last year, when he declared he would not let Bengali-speaking Muslims take over the state. Mr Sarma further declared 'I am not in the competition for minority votes', a remark the Congress said was a communal statement. Speaking in the Assembly after the opposition's adjournment motion on key issues - including the targeting of Bengali Muslims, or Miyas, in upper Assam's Sivasagar district - Mr Sarma dared his rivals, "I will take sides. What can you do? Will not let Miya Muslims take over Assam." The remarks came two days after Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi accused the BJP of trying to recreate the 2002 Gujarat riots in Assam. Mr Gogoi's comments followed reports that some organisations had threatened Muslims from Upper Assam to leave the administrative division. Assam will vote in what is likely to be a highly-charged Assembly election in March-April 2026.

BJP, TDP leaders stress unity, recall Muslim role in freedom struggle
The Andhra Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated Independence Day at its State headquarters in Vijayawada on Friday with patriotic fervour. State BJP president P.V.N. Madhav hoisted the national flag after a ceremonial puja, reminding the gathering that India's freedom was won through the sacrifices of millions, not just a few celebrated leaders. In his address, Mr. Madhav called the Partition of India on religious lines a painful chapter and reiterated the BJP's opposition to such divisions. Recalling the Emergency, he said BJP affiliates had fought to protect the Constitution and continued to champion causes such as 'Save Kashmir,' 'Save Assam,' and 'Save Teen Bigha.' Citing progress since 2014 under BJP rule, he mentioned the Statue of Unity honouring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, and Operation Sindoor as symbols of national pride and India's growing global stature. He also noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's effort in bringing nationalist leader Shyamji Krishna Varma's ashes from Switzerland for immersion in the Sabarmati River. NTR District BJP president Addoori Sri Ram and other senior leaders were present. Later, at a programme by the Minority Human Rights Protection Society (MHPS), Mr. Madhav honoured the memory of Ashfaqulla Khan alongside Ram Prasad Bismil, underscoring Hindu–Muslim unity in the freedom struggle. TDP Politburo member T.D. Janardhan highlighted the contribution of Muslims to independence, while MHPS State president Mohammed Farooq Shibli said 'unity in diversity' was India's greatest strength, recalling that many Muslims chose to stay in India during Partition. The celebrations drew large crowds, including madrasa students and Muslim women, and featured a 25-kg cake and a 'Light Walk' displaying portraits of Muslim freedom fighters.
