Patience key in politics, says Sanjay Raut after MNS leader suggests ‘minions should not talk' about Thackerays' possible alliance

Indian Express7 hours ago

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday advised Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leaders to be patient and optimistic amid speculations of a possible alliance between Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS founder Raj Thackeray.
'In politics, one should always be patient and optimistic. Some people still need to be trained in this. Politics does not work by being superficial. When it is a question of Maharashtra's identity, when it is a question of the just rights of the Marathi people, one has to be patient. No one knows better than me what is going to happen and what is not going to happen. Whoever says anything is like a fool, it does not make sense,' the Rajya Sabha MP said.
On Sunday morning, MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande had criticised Raut saying that he should not comment on the alliance. 'The leaders of both parties will take a decision on the alliance. The minions should not talk,' Deshpande said.
Raut responded by saying that earlier people believed that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would not be formed. 'But still, a government of the Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena was formed in Maharashtra. Uddhav Thackeray became the chief minister,' he said, advising Deshpande that people coming into politics should study a little before speaking.
After dropping hints that the party is preparing to join hands with Raj Thackeray's MNS, Sena (UBT) leaders have expressed optimism regarding the alliance. At a party function held last week, Uddhav said that things will work out as per the wishes of the people of Maharashtra, hinting that matters were moving forward in a positive manner.
However, despite the workers of both parties coming together for various occasions, no official meetings have taken place between the two Thackerays yet.

Poet Hemant Divate to return state award as protest against imposition of Hindi in schools

Hemant Divate, a poet who has received a state award for his poetry collection, has announced that he is returning the award in protest against the imposition of Hindi as the third language in classes 1 to 5, in Marathi and English medium schools in Maharashtra. Divate was awarded by the government of Maharashtra in the year 2021 with Kavi Keshavsut Puraskar (award) for his book Paranoia, a collection of his poems. He made the announcement of his decision to return the award via his social media where he posted, 'As a protest against the decision to impose Hindi as the third language, I am returning the Maharashtra State Government's award, including the cash prize, that I received for my poetry collection Paranoia.' Divate said, 'It is completely unnecessary to teach Hindi formally in schools at this young age. At this stage, children are just beginning to learn Marathi, and learning Hindi simultaneously—given the similarities between the two languages—can create confusion. Instead, the government could consider introducing subjects focused on skills, value education, and personality development, which would be more beneficial for young learners.' Months after retracting its decision to make Hindi mandatory in Classes 1 to 5, the Maharashtra school education department issued a revised order, removing the word 'mandatory' as promised. However, restrictive conditions on language options have sparked fresh controversy, with many calling it a renewed push for Hindi by the state government.

Shiv Sena (UBT)'s condition in Mumbai is dangerous and dilapidated, says BJP MLA Ashish Shelar; welcomes former corporators who join party ahead of BMC polls

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT)'s condition in the city has become dangerous and dilapidated, said BJP Mumbai president Ashish Shelar as he welcomed two more former corporators, Ishwar Tayade and Akanksha Shete, into the party on Sunday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now BJP has been inducting former elected representatives from opposition parties as it prepares for the local body elections across the state. The BMC elections are also expected in the next four months. Addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters, Shelar said in 2017, Shiv Sena (then undivided) had 84 corporators in the BMC and BJP 82. "When former corporators from Andheri East and Malabar Hill joined BJP, we equalled their numbers, and now we have surpassed the Sena (UBT) numbers. Really speaking, we have crossed 100 as several other ex-corporators of previous tenures have also joined BJP," he added. "The Sena (UBT)'s condition has become dangerous because of its anti-Hindu festivals, anti-Hindutva, anti-Mumbaikar, anti-Balasaheb ideology. The party took a stand against all of these issues. It has become dilapidated because no one wants to stay on this ship. Everyone is moving away of their own accord," Shelar said, adding that to stop his party's deterioration, Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray is raising the bogey of attempts being made to destroy him and his party. Shelar, who is Bandra (W) MLA, and Mumbai Suburban guardian minister, said BJP did not come into politics to destroy anyone. "Our aim is Mumbai, Mumbaikar, and its development, and there is no compromise on this. Just the other day, Union home minister Amit Shah said for Mumbai and its development, we started projects worth Rs 7 lakh crore. We challenge the Maha Vikas Aghadi to tell what they have done or come for a discussion," he said, adding Act I of the play is done with Tayade and Shetye joining the BJP. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Act II will be enacted soon, and Act III will be the finale, he added. Asked about competition within Mahayuti to serve Mumbaikars, Shelar said, "Competition to serve is good for the city; we are together." He criticised the visit of forest officials to actor Shah Rukh Khan's residence, Mannat, which is undergoing renovations. "Why must forest officials visit the place? If there is a violation, then action must be taken, but no citizen must be unnecessarily harassed," he said.

‘Voted Trump, got Netanyahu as boss,' Priyanka Chaturvedi mocks US president amid Iran strikes

'America voted for President Trump but got Netanyahu as their boss,' the UBT leader said. The strikes in the early hours targeted Iran's nuclear sites in Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow. Fardow is Iran's main enrichment location for uranium enrichment to 60 per cent. New Delhi: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Sunday took a clever jibe at the growing coordination between the United States and Israel over the recent strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities. 'The action taken by Israel and America is a major escalation. Iran had to face a devastating blow due to these actions, and the deep underground nuclear facilities of Iran were hard hit in this attack,' Srivastava said. He added, 'Be it the Trump administration or any other administrations, everyone has expressed their views that they won't let Iran acquire nuclear weapons.' According to a CNN report, the US likely used six B-2 bombers to drop a dozen GBU-57 A/B 'bunker buster' bombs, also known as Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOP), on the Fordow nuclear site, which is Iran's main location for uranium enrichment. A US official also told CNN that a full payload of bombs was dropped on Fordow. In his first public remarks following the strikes, President Trump warned that further action could be taken if Tehran fails to agree to a satisfactory peace settlement. 'There will be either peace or there will be tragedy for Iran, far greater than we've witnessed over the last eight days,' Trump said in his address to the nation from the White House on Saturday (local time). In a Truth Social post, he added, 'This cannot continue. There will be either peace or there will be a tragedy for Iran far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days. Remember, there are many targets left. Tonight's was the most difficult of them all, by far, and perhaps the most lethal. But if peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed and skill.' Trump also praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating: 'I want to thank Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu. We worked as a team like perhaps no team has ever worked before, and we've gone a long way to erasing this horrible threat to Israel.' He also lauded the military minds behind the joint operation: 'I want to thank the Israeli military for the wonderful job they've done and most importantly I want to congratulate great American patriots who flew those magnificent machines tonight, and all of the United States' military on an operation the likes of which the world has not seen in many, many decades. Hopefully, we will no longer need their services in this capacity. I hope that so.' Trump was joined by key members of his administration, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth, as he delivered the remarks from the White House.
