Alright, The Capture fans, buckle up! The BBC's twisty, turny thriller is coming back for a third season, and the hype is real. If you're obsessed with deepfakes, surveillance conspiracies, and heart-pounding drama like the rest of us, you're probably dying to know what's next for Rachel Carey and the gang. After season two's jaw-dropping finale in 2022, the wait's been brutal, but there's finally some news to chew on. Here's the lowdown on the release date, cast, and plot for The Capture season 3. The Capture Season 3 Release Date Speculation
So, when can we expect to binge this gem? Filming's happening right now in the South East of England, kicking off around spring 2025. If we look at how the first two seasons rolled out, it usually takes about a year from cameras rolling to episodes airing. That puts a late 2025 premiere – think September or October – on the table. Some folks are betting on early 2026, though, since production's still in full swing. No official date's been locked in yet, but the BBC's bound to spill the beans soon. Keep your eyes peeled on their socials or BBC iPlayer for updates.
Word is, season 3 will stick to the classic six-episode format, each clocking in at an hour. Will it drop all at once on BBC iPlayer for a weekend binge, or go weekly on BBC One? No clue yet, but both have happened before. In the meantime, if you're itching for a refresher, seasons one and two are chilling on Netflix, ready to suck you back into the chaos. The Capture Season 3 Expected Cast
Let's talk cast, because The Capture always brings a killer lineup. Holliday Grainger is back as Commander Rachel Carey, and thank goodness for that – she's the heart and soul of this show. Carey's climbed the ranks from DCI to acting head of SO15, and Grainger's been dropping hints that the new scripts are 'absolutely electric.' Expect her to carry the weight of some serious drama.
The returning crew includes some heavy hitters: Ben Miles as Danny Hart, still navigating the murky security world.

Okay, let's get to the good stuff: what's going down in season 3? It is expected to pick up a year after that wild season two ending, where Carey blew the lid off the intelligence service's secret video-tweaking program, Correction, with a live deepfake of a government bigwig. This time, Carey's not just chasing the truth – she's smack in the middle of the conspiracy. As acting head of SO15, she's pushing a new camera system called Operation Veritas to rebuild trust in surveillance. But then a brutal terror attack hits the British establishment, leaving one lone witness and a whole lot of questions.
Carey's digging deeper than ever, and it's pulling her into a massive geopolitical mess. Think tangled webs of politics, security services, and media manipulation. Who's behind it all? With deepfakes muddying the waters and allies dropping like flies, Carey's in for a rough ride. Creator Ben Chanan's calling it a 'zeitgeist thriller,' so expect it to hit hard on hot-button issues like fake news and tech gone wrong. Brace for betrayals, cliffhangers, and moral gray zones that'll leave you shook.

A new look for the BBC's Match of the Day – but will the show be any different?

Match of the Day, the BBC's flagship football highlights programme, will have a different look when it airs at 10.20pm BST on Saturday to show action from the first six matches of the 2025-26 Premier League season. For the first time since 1999, Gary Lineker, the former England striker, will not be its permanent host after his exit from the UK's leading public broadcaster in May. Advertisement Instead of appointing one person to replace Lineker, the BBC instead opted to share the role between three experienced sports presenters: Mark Chapman, Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates. Chapman, 51, will host the kick-off show this weekend, alongside Alan Shearer, the former Newcastle United and England striker, and Wayne Rooney, a Manchester United and England great, as expert analysts. Speaking at the launch event in London on Thursday night, Chapman quipped that all he'll be thinking about before going live on Saturday evening is: 'Don't f**k it up.' Match of the Day has been running on British television since 1964, but why has it been given a new look now — and will the show be any different this season? The Athletic answers the key questions… Gabby Logan, 52, is a familiar face on the free-to-air broadcaster, having spent more than 15 years at the BBC and hosted multiple shows, including filling in occasionally for Lineker on Match of the Day. A former international rhythmic gymnast, the daughter of Leeds United and Wales footballer Terry Yorath has been an integral part of the BBC's coverage of World Cups, Olympics and other major sporting events. Logan also fronts Amazon Prime's coverage of the Champions League in the UK and has her own podcast. Mark Chapman is another BBC stalwart, having started on Radio 1 reading the sports news. He can also be heard on BBC 5 Live Sport radio and previously hosted Match of the Day 2 on Sunday nights during the Premier League season, showing that day's match action, as well as The Athletic FC podcast. He is also versatile across other sports, covering golf majors and rugby league for the BBC. Chapman also works for Sky Sports and, from this season, will continue to front top-flight games for that subscription service. Advertisement Kelly Cates, 49, will also juggle her Match of the Day duties and presenting on BBC 5 Live with working for Sky Sports this season, continuing her long association with the Premier League's primary rights holder in the UK. The daughter of Liverpool and Scotland icon Sir Kenny Dalglish, Cates is regarded as one of the best broadcasters in the industry, being named presenter of the year at this year's British Journalism Awards. Chapman is presenting this Saturday's show, with Logan fronting Sunday evening's Match of the Day, which will have highlights of the three Premier League matches played that day. Cates will make her debut next weekend. The three hosts will present an equal number of shows, according to the BBC, and it will largely depend on schedules when it comes to who is available for which dates. 'We all have other things that we do within BBC Sport and across football and other sports, and it was exciting to us that we got to continue doing the things that we're very passionate about and also that feed into the jobs that we do now,' Logan said at the launch event. 'We're not territorial at all about how that's going to work because we're all doing other exciting things within sports. There's not going to be a pattern in it at all.' As well as being given an equal number of shows, the three presenters are being paid equally when it comes to hosting Match of the Day. The BBC also has rights to the FA Cup, the men's World Cup next year, the women's World Cup in 2027, and the men's Euros in 2028. As it stands, a frontrunner to host the BBC's coverage of the World Cup final next July is yet to emerge, nor has a decision been made as to who that will be. Although it can sometimes be the case when a new host takes over a long-running TV programme, the BBC hasn't conducted any rehearsals with its new presenters ahead of Saturday night's first show. As far as the programme as a spectacle goes, no. The show will largely look the same, albeit with someone different in the host's chair. The iconic theme tune will remain, too. The hope is that Cates, Logan and Chapman, with their journalistic backgrounds, will be able to identify what their audience is talking about following the day's matches, whether it's the biggest moment from the slate of games or people complaining about the price of beer at Everton's new stadium, and bring it to the screen. It will still follow the same format, broadcasting the best of Saturday's top-flight fixtures (and, this week, Friday night's game between Liverpool and Bournemouth), followed by pundits analysing each match. Where relevant, the BBC will look to incorporate its journalists on the show, too — especially if there is a news angle to be discussed. Advertisement Sunday night's edition, formerly called Match of the Day 2, is now also simply Match of the Day, unifying the two shows under one name. Beginning on Saturday night, as part of its deal with the Premier League that kicks in this season, the BBC will have every goal from every Premier League game that day available on iPlayer, the BBC Sport website and its app from 8pm, two hours ahead of Match of the Day coming on air. Just a little, yes. Lineker — who had long been the BBC's marquee football presenter and highest-paid employee, earning £1.35million a year — was widely respected for his abilities as a presenter but the BBC judged some of his comments on social media had breached its policies. In March 2023, he was stood down from presenting an episode of Match of the Day, prompting a mass walkout of the BBC's presenters and pundits over the network that weekend. The former editor-in-chief of The Athletic, Alex Kay-Jelski, succeeded Barbara Slater as the BBC's director of sport in the summer of 2024. The BBC then announced in November that Lineker would be stepping down from Match of the Day but would stay on to present its FA Cup and 2026 FIFA World Cup coverage. Attention quickly turned to who would be hired to replace him on arguably the biggest football show in the UK, but Lineker's own future at the corporation was very much in the balance: the BBC drew up plans for if his deal was renewed beyond 2024-25, while also having a direction of where they wanted to go if he left. Then, last May, Lineker 'apologised unreservedly' after being heavily criticised for sharing a social media post that included a rat emoji. The post Lineker shared on Instagram, which he subsequently deleted, was by the group Palestine Lobby. The video's caption was 'Zionism explained in two minutes' and it had an illustration of a rat to accompany it. A rat has often been used as an antisemitic insult. Following this, the BBC announced that Lineker would be leaving the corporation altogether at the end of the 2024-25 season. 'I very much regret these references,' Lineker said in a statement. 'I would never knowingly share anything antisemitic. It goes against everything I believe in.' Spot the pattern. Connect the terms Find the hidden link between sports terms Play today's puzzle

BBC axes Survivor after one series

Survivor has been axed by the BBC. The reality series proved to be a ratings flop, and host Joel Dommett has now confirmed that it won't return for a second series. Joel, 40 - who has also hosted The Masked Singer since 2020 - told The Sun newspaper: "It just shows you how nothing is a given in telly. I thought Survivor would be huge. I thought that would be my job for the next 20 years. "I've done shows and thought that's not coming back and it keeps coming back and then you do something like Survivor, which you think is guaranteed and it doesn't come back." Earlier this year, Joel revealed that he was hoping for a second series of Survivor. The TV star also promised that changes would be made if the show came back. In an interview with the Metro newspaper, he said: 'Fingers crossed … there's a lot of stuff that we would do slightly differently. 'Like with every first series, it's hard, so I think a second series would be amazing. 'Everyone seems to really love it, so I'm excited that – hopefully – [we get to] do another one." The first episode of the rebooted Survivor - which launched in October 2023 - only received 2.6 million viewers, despite airing at the prime-time slot of 8:25pm on a Saturday, after Strictly Come Dancing. Survivor's second episode was then replaced by David Attenborough's Planet Earth III. A TV insider also previously claimed that the BBC was not keen on renewing the programme for another series. The source told the Daily Mail newspaper: 'It has come as a huge surprise that Survivor is coming back. 'It is viewed by many within the Beeb as being a very expensive flop and the general view was that it should – and would – be canned. 'To spend that amount of money on a programme that is watched by such few people surely is a silly way to spend public money."

EastEnders actor died broke with no will, records show

EastEnders actor Nicholas Ball died broke and left nothing to his wife, legal documents show. The actor died aged 78 last year following a short battle with illness. He played Terry Bates in the BBC soap and also had roles in Footballers' Wives and Hazell. But records show Ball, of Porchester Square, London, left no will and nothing in his estate. A High Court document shows administration of the estate was granted to his wife Ayda. It reads: 'The application has stated that the gross value of the estate in the United Kingdom amounts to £0 and the net value amounts to £0.' She revealed his death in June last year saying: "It is with the heaviest and broken of hearts, that I share the loss of my beloved Nicky-Nicholas Ball." Ball had been married to actress and psychologist Pamela Stephenson from 1978 to 1984. She left him for comedian Billy Connolly. Ball had a long acting career but reportedly struggled for parts after private eye series Hazell ended. He had played a number of supporting roles in various television series including Z-Cars, Softly Softly: Task Force, The Young Ones, Bergerac, Tales of the Unexpected, Casualty, and Holby City. Director Keith English paid tribute to him after his death, saying: "Fabulous as star of hit TV show 'Hazell' in the 1980s, Nick was a terrific actor - kind and generous. He starred in our short film 'Top Dog' in 2001 in which he was great and we became life-long friends with him and his wife, Ayda Kay. "Indeed, we were honoured when the pair of them asked if they could be married in our garden in 2019. A fabulous affair. "One of our fondest memories was going to see Jerry Goldsmith play The Royal Albert Hall with him and his great friend Mel Smith. "Mel had hired a box for the show. Both men were known hell-raisers and, sure enough, when the four of us rolled up they were both fairly merry and proceeded to football-chant 'There's only one Jerry Goldsmith!' between musical pieces to an uneven response from the rest of the auditorium. "Nick was a loving husband, friend and a wonderful actor. We enjoyed every minute of his company. Farewell and bon voyage."
