BBC axes Survivor after one series
The reality series proved to be a ratings flop, and host Joel Dommett has now confirmed that it won't return for a second series.
Joel, 40 - who has also hosted The Masked Singer since 2020 - told The Sun newspaper: "It just shows you how nothing is a given in telly. I thought Survivor would be huge. I thought that would be my job for the next 20 years.
"I've done shows and thought that's not coming back and it keeps coming back and then you do something like Survivor, which you think is guaranteed and it doesn't come back."
Earlier this year, Joel revealed that he was hoping for a second series of Survivor.
The TV star also promised that changes would be made if the show came back.
In an interview with the Metro newspaper, he said: 'Fingers crossed … there's a lot of stuff that we would do slightly differently.
'Like with every first series, it's hard, so I think a second series would be amazing.
'Everyone seems to really love it, so I'm excited that – hopefully – [we get to] do another one."
The first episode of the rebooted Survivor - which launched in October 2023 - only received 2.6 million viewers, despite airing at the prime-time slot of 8:25pm on a Saturday, after Strictly Come Dancing.
Survivor's second episode was then replaced by David Attenborough's Planet Earth III.
A TV insider also previously claimed that the BBC was not keen on renewing the programme for another series.
The source told the Daily Mail newspaper: 'It has come as a huge surprise that Survivor is coming back.
'It is viewed by many within the Beeb as being a very expensive flop and the general view was that it should – and would – be canned.
'To spend that amount of money on a programme that is watched by such few people surely is a silly way to spend public money."

The show will also highlight the work of cat rescue organisations. At a previous event, Kool Cat Rescue found homes for four kittens after visitors met them at the show. Founders Jools Price and Mitzi Booth said: "The shows that Fancy Cats put on give us the opportunity to highlight the work that we do to look after and find loving homes for cats in need and at the same time enable us to raise much needed funds for the work that we do. "We are delighted that four of our kittens will have now found new homes through our presence at their last show." 'I went to a Mamma Mia party at Bluewater and unleashed my inner dancing queen'
Forget Greece - it turns out you only need a trip to Dartford to unleash your inner dancing queen. Nearly two decades after Mamma Mia! The Movie was released, the rom-com musical still has a hold over pretty much every woman I know. It was fitting, then, that I took three generations of women in my family to a Mamma Mia Party at Showcase Cinema de Lux Bluewater - and we all had an absolute blast. DJ Jude and performer Tony Deluxe (Image: Showcase Cinema de Lux Bluewater) Stepping out of the lift and into the VIP Gallery Bar was like entering the disco-world of ABBA: everywhere I looked was sequins, sparkles and feather boas. DJ Jude was already getting everyone up and dancing with hits from the film and self-styled "king of disco" Tony Deluxe was bringing enough energy and glitter to rival Donna and the Dynamos. Bottomless prosecco, pizza and chocolates kept the dancing going (Image: Charlotte Anderson) To keep the dancing going, there was bottomless prosecco and pizza, as well as boozy chocolates from Hotel Chocolat. Everyone got the VIP treatment, whether that was regular top-ups from staff or a cool-down fan from Tony Deluxe. Just when we thought there couldn't be any more dancing, the king of disco led us through easy but high-energy routines to a few ABBA songs, building anticipation to the screening.
