Salman Khan, Manchu Vishnu cancel events after Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad
Actors Salman Khan and Vishnu Manchu cancelled events as news broke of an Air India flight carrying 242 passengers crashing a few moments after takeoff from the Ahmedabad airport. The actors had events planned this week, which have been cancelled till further notice. Salman is the new face of the Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL), and a press meet was scheduled for Thursday in Mumbai. The actor was supposed to attend the meeting with Veer Patel and Ishan Lokhande, the ISRL's co-founders. However, once news broke of the crash, the team addressed the press and cancelled the event.
They also sent a press note: 'As we all have just heard the tragic incident that has taken place today. Indian Supercross Racing League and Mr. Salman Khan stand by the Nation United in this tough time. All our condolences and prayers are with the affected families. Jointly, we have made a responsible decision to reschedule this event to a further date.'
Vishnu, whose film Kannappa's trailer was supposed to be launched on 13 June, with a pre-release event to be held in Indore on the date announced that the event stands cancelled and the trailer release has been deferred. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter), 'My heart breaks for the lives lost in today's Ahmedabad Air India crash. In deep mourning, we're deferring the #Kanappa trailer release by one day and canceling tomorrow's Indore pre‑release event. My prayers are with the families during this unimaginably difficult time.'
Air India confirmed the news of the plane crash on X, writing, "Air India confirms that flight AI171, from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, was involved in an accident today after take-off. The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 1338 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals. The injured are being taken to the nearest hospitals.
They also added, "We have also set up a dedicated passenger hotline number 1800 5691 444 to provide more information. Air India is giving its full cooperation to the authorities investigating this incident. Air India will release further information via regular updates on its X handle (https://x.com/airindia) and on http://airindia.com." Further details are awaited.

However, there's this one time that she had kissed her co-star, who she decides not to name, in a film, which didn't turn out to be a very pleasant experience. Recalling the episode, she says, 'It wasn't the kind of kiss that we see in films today. It was more like a peck on the lips but that made me feel really bad." In fact, she came to know about it only when she reached the sets. 'That I was required to kiss wasn't something that was conveyed to me before I began shooting. When I was told, they took me to the side and we had a conversation. They explained to me why it was important and that's why I did it. But it was the most horrible and non-convincing thing I had to do," Madhoo shares. Eventually, she decided to let it go and it made its way to the final cut of the film. 'The kiss didn't even serve any purpose. I didn't even have a conversation with the director to not include that scene in the film. I let it pass. I was too young in every way and not just by age. Today, 22-year-olds and 24-year-olds are so clever and exposed. At 22, I was very naïve," says the actor, who will next be seen in Kannappa. However, it was Deepa Mehta's 1996 film Fire where Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das played lesbian lovers that began to change her perception about onscreen intimacy. 'I don't mean to say that onscreen kissing is a bad thing. When I saw Fire starring actors like Shabana ji, I thought they really broke the barrier of their own conditioning, which I was unable to do back then. I don't think I can do what they did even now. I appreciate actors who can shave their heads off or play lesbians in films," Madhoo remarks. Having said that, she looks forward to coming out of her own inhibitions by taking baby steps at this phase of her career. 'To separate yourself as a person and an actor and break psychological barriers is something that I want to do in my own way. Back in the day, I was just a girl who wanted to be a movie star. Today, I'm an actor who can wants to do different kinds of roles. I want to see how much I can break my own conditioning and transform myself and if I can play a role as convincingly as Shabana ji did in Fire," she says. First Published:

Air India Plane Crash: King Charles to honour victims with minute's silence and black armbands at his birthday parade
The Royal Family will pay tribute to the victims of the recent Air India crash during Saturday's 'Trooping the Colour', the King's official birthday parade. The move comes after a tragic aircraft disaster in Ahmedabad, western India, claimed at least 241 lives on Thursday. A palace spokesperson confirmed that King Charles III had requested changes to this year's event "as a mark of respect for the lives lost, the families in mourning and all the communities affected by this awful tragedy". As part of the tribute, a minute's silence will be observed after the King inspects the guard at Horse Guards Parade. The silence will be signalled with the traditional Last Post and Reveille, played by military buglers. The King, along with senior members of the Royal Family, will wear black armbands. Those riding in the ceremonial procession, including postilions, coachmen and coachwomen from the Royal Mews, will also wear black armbands as a gesture of mourning.
