Rick Springfield calls out ‘Today' show host Craig Melvin for yawning during live interview

New York Post11-07-2025
Where can I find a yawner like that?
Eighties pop-rock icon Rick Springfield called out NBC host Craig Melvin for yawning during his Wednesday interview on the '3rd Hour of Today.'
The 'Jessie's Girl' vocalist was just over 90 seconds into the live segment discussing the '80s hit when he noticed Melvin yawn off-camera.

The Grammy-winner seemed to be distracted as he tried to continue speaking, but then he paused, turned to Melvin and asked the anchor a direct question with the cameras rolling.
'Am I boring you?' Springfield asked.
'I actually-you're not at all,' Melvin replied. 'I apologize.'
'It's early, don't worry about it, I'll yawn too,' Springfield joked.
Melvin tried to explain that he wasn't yawning and claimed 'it was a cough,' but his response was overshadowed by laughter from his co-hosts, Al Roker and Jill Martin.

The 'Today' Show' show weatherman tried to keep the interview moving along and the moment passed quickly.
The music icon continued to joke with the hosts during the segment as he promoted his 'I Want My '80s Tour' and his greatest hits album, which was released in late February 2025.
Despite the awkward start, the interview ended on a high note with Roker enthusiastically saying, 'Rick Springfield, I had no idea you were so funny, by the way. Come back, come back anytime!'
4 Melvin insisted that he had to 'cough' and not yawn.

Springfield seemingly doesn't appear to have hard feelings about the situation, as he gave the show a shout-out on his Facebook page.
'Had a fun time with the gang at the Today Show this morning!' Springfield wrote.
'You were hilarious. Although, remind me not to yawn if you're around…..' one fan quipped in the comment section of the Facebook post.
During the interview, Springfield also opened up about discovering he had a brain injury after an onstage fall during a 2000 show in Las Vegas.
'I fell actually 25 feet through a steel stage,' Springfield shared.
The singer-songwriter claimed he 'was supposed to be gravity fed on a beam' during a stunt at the MGM Grand, but the gear wasn't 'tied' correctly, and he fell and the beam hit him on the head.
The 'Love Somebody' singer suffered a broken wrist and an annual Prenuvo scan revealed that the mishap caused a brain injury too.
'They found damage in my brain and we're just watching it,' Springfield said.

The 75-year-old has not let his health situation slow him down.
Springfield will tour until mid-October as part of the 'I Want My '80s Tour,' and he plans to release new music, the Post reported.
'I'm writing a new album now. I have my guitar, keyboard and little recorder out here,' Springfield said on Wednesday. 'I put headphones so my wife doesn't have to listen to the same musical phrase over and over. It's my therapy and hobby. The new album will be a little heavier. More adventurous. I want to write a bunch of meaningful songs to me with big hooks and some flavor of what's going on.'

Fugly ‘foot condom' toe shoes are back — with celebs, fashionistas stepping into the tacky tootsie trend: ‘Everyone laughs'

After toeing the line for years, the world's most controversial shoe has found its footing — and that's quite a feat. What was once considered the most reviled footwear on the planet is now strutting down runways and racking up waitlists. 4 The world's most controversial shoe has found its footing, Getty Images The Vibram FiveFingers shoe — a glove-like creation with individual slots for each toe — has been deemed the shoe of the summer, despite sparking visceral reactions ranging from laughter to full-blown disgust. Originally launched in 2006 by Italian sport and mountaineering brand Vibram for barefoot running purists, the FiveFingers were designed to mimic the natural movement of the foot. Enthusiasts claimed benefits like improved posture, stronger foot muscles, and better balance. They first gained traction with athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, and quickly became fashion's favorite punching bag. Celebs like Prince Harry, Kate Hudson, and Scarlett Johansson were seen in them over a decade ago. Described by critics as 'foot condoms' and 'the most embarrassing footwear ever made,' the shoes remained firmly outside the style mainstream — until now. This summer, the shoes are selling out worldwide, gracing Vogue spreads, TikTok and runways. 4 The Vibram FiveFingers shoe — a glove-like creation with individual slots for each toe — has been deemed the shoe of the summer, despite sparking visceral reactions ranging from laughter to full-blown disgust. Getty Images They've recently been spotted on fashion-forward celebrities like BLACKPINK's Jennie Kim, model Paloma Elsesser and rapper Doechii; the once-ridiculed shoes are suddenly a hot commodity. Influencers are desperate to find a pair, with some scouring resale sites for months. Several styles are now sold out globally, priced between $100 and $200. Also known as barefoot shoes, the style is now being sold by Margiela Tabis, Balenciaga Crocs, and JNCO jeans. 4 Originally launched in 2006 by Italian sport and mountaineering brand Vibram for barefoot running purists, the FiveFingers were designed to mimic the natural movement of the foot. @melinaft / TikTok According to secondhand platform Depop, searches for 'barefoot toe shoes' have risen 205% this year, with demand for Vibrams specifically spiking by 296% since April. On TikTok, the shoes have become a viral phenomenon. London-based fashion advisor Emma Hope posted a TikTok video of herself riding the Tube in her pair, captioned: 'POV: people on the Tube are laughing at your freaky toe shoes.' Fashion influencer Abby Walker shared a TikTok video of herself dancing around in her shoes — only to whine, 'everyone laughs at my shoes.' Although most people on the app seem to love the accessory, someone commented that they are 'actually the hottest shoes rn,' on a TikTok video of @daisypyo styling her pair. 'Idk what it is but these feel like the mostttt cutie feminine shoe, but they are always sold out,' someone else commented on a similar video of @melinaft styling her pink pair. But the FiveFingers aren't for the faint of heart. One commuter, who goes by @feriliketheboat on TikTok, recorded a fellow passenger wearing them on the London Underground, saying, 'No, this is not acceptable on public transport. Oh my God, they're your toes. Oh, I'm going to throw up. No, get them off.' 4 Described by critics as 'foot condoms' and 'the most embarrassing footwear ever made,' the shoes remained firmly outside the style mainstream — until now. @lucymarygrace / TikTok Another TikTok user, Georgia, complained about constantly having to explain her footwear: 'Every time I wear them, I have to talk to someone about them. It's like I have to give therapy to make people okay with my shoes.' Despite the backlash, support for the shoes is growing. Enthusiasts argue that toe shoes are simply ahead of their time — and maybe always were. Celebs like Prince Harry, Kate Hudson, and Scarlett Johansson were seen in them over a decade ago. Today, it seems the FiveFingers are finally having their moment as part of the broader 'footnaissance.' The resurgence of foot-forward fashion is undeniable — British Vogue even declared in 2023 that 'toes are the new legs.' The broader cultural shift toward unconventional footwear — from Maison Margiela's tabi boots to Nike's split-toe Air Rifts — has helped normalize previously taboo silhouettes. Ballet flats and flip-flops have also walked into the fashion world. So whether you find them fascinating or nauseating, toe shoes have officially stepped into the spotlight.

Frontman Adam Levine and lead guitarist James Valentine also discussed the album, titled Love is Like, on the show. "You said, Adam, recently that this album, Love is Like -- this one that's about to come out -- is deeply personal and you're going back to your roots. How so?" co-host Craig Melvin asked Levine. "We came up in a time when like you didn't really have any outside help with writing songs," Levine said. After a long time of collaborative work, this album represented an opportunity "just to come back to, 'Hey, you know, lemme see if we can do this again, and do this just with us and let's see if it still works.'" Khloé Kardashian Breaks Silence On Reason For New Found Caregiver Role

Khloé Kardashian wears her heart on her sleeve, and for Amari Thompson, she would do anything. The mother-of-two opened up about why she needed to fill in the big shoes of looking after Tristan Thompson's younger brother after their mother, Andrea Thompson. Khloé Kardashian welcomed two kids with the NBA player, True Thompson in 2018 and Tatum Thompson in 2022, during their on-and-off relationship, which lasted for about five years and officially ended in 2021. Khloé Kardashian Is Pleased To Have Amari Thompson As A Part Of Her Family The reality star shared on her podcast that after Andrea passed away in 2023, it became important for them to pay extra attention to Amari, who has also lost his primary caregiver in the person of his mother. Hence, she continued that the family decided to take Amari back to the United States, as he lived with Andrea in Canada. Tristan also filed to become Amari's sole caregiver after they laid Andrea to rest. Khloé explained that Tristan's schedule was another hurdle they needed to scale since he was always on the move, and Amari's health could absolutely not withstand that kind of stress due to the multiple seizures. The Hulu star then noted that the whole family finally decided that Amari should stay with her in Los Angeles. The weather in the area is also excellent for his health, and Amari enjoys the company of Khloé, her family, and her two kids. "We just want to provide Amari with the best, most beautiful life that we know how. And he deserves that," the podcaster concluded on the season finale of her "Khloé in Wonderland" podcast. She also affirmed that Amari is under expert care around the clock with the most experienced team of caregivers. The 41-Year-Old Is Doing It All For The Love Of Tristan's Late Mother Khloé added that her phenomenal relationship with Tristan's mother, despite the complicated bond between her and Tristan, aided her relationship with Amari. She also recalled getting active with Andrea on Amari's treatments and medical records. According to Khloé, Andrea "would have questions, she would need connections to certain doctors, and I would help with that. I was very much involved in all of his medical appointments when Andrea was here." The mother-of-two continued that she is fully aware of how much Amari meant to his late mother, and her bond with Tristan's family is not severed by her and Tristan's extinct relationship. That is not all, Khloé stressed the importance of having Amari around to bond with his nieces and nephews and remind her kids that special people deserve love. She added that Amari's presence will teach her kids "compassion" and "understanding." "And I love seeing how Amari lights up when he's around the kids. He can't verbally talk, but … if you know him well enough, he can definitely express himself, and you see the glimmer in his eyes," Khloé noted. Khloé's Family Had An Emotional Reaction To Amari's Seizure During His 18th Birthday As shared by Today, Khloé and her family gathered in her home to celebrate Amari's 18th birthday, as aired in the 6th season of their hit Hulu show "The Kardashians." Khloé described the event as a huge milestone for the youngster who makes every day with him feel like a blessing. However, Amari suffered one of his seizures during the event, which sent chills down Kris Jenner's spine. The younger Thompson suffers from a severe form of epilepsy known as Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, making him in need of a 24/7 assistant. According to the Cleveland Clinic, Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome is a form of childhood epilepsy that causes multiple seizures and exposes the patient to the risk of permanent brain damage. Kris became emotional at the sight of Amari's seizure, noting in a later confessional that the feeling of helplessness when someone is in a state of distress is frustrating. "It's uncontrollable and there's nothing that you can really do, but I'm glad I was here. I'm glad I was here for Amari. I'm glad I was here for Khloé," Kris noted. She expressed her pride in Khloé for handling the situation with so much patience and precision and remaining unwavering in support for Amari. The Good American Founder Got Candid About Parenting Struggles The doting mom and entrepreneur does not pretend about the hassles of raising two kids and how she finds herself needing help. As shared by The Blast, Khloé stated that she will not be stigmatized for seeking additional support with her children. On her podcast, the 41-year-old slammed the culture of shaming moms into battling the stress of parenting in silence. "People that talk sh-t about nannies, we all have help in some capacity. You can call it daycare, you can call it a school, you can call it in-laws, your mother, sister, or whoever. A babysitter," Khloé noted. In a 2024 episode of their reality show, she confided in her sister, Kourtney Kardashian, that not having people to help her with the kids at night usually leaves her overwhelmed and exhausted at night. Khloé Kardashian Spoke On Parenting With Tristan Thompson The reality star and her baby daddy have come a long way in their relationship, whether as ex-lovers or parents of two toddlers. In a story by PEOPLE, the podcaster explained that both of them have gotten to a point in their interaction where they maintain a great friendship borne out of mutual respect. The star admitted last year that they eventually realized they were great individuals separately, but not meant to be partners. However, she commended the professional basketballer for being a very excellent father to their children. Khloé added that parenting comes in multiple facets, all of which she enjoys. In her words, she feels she was made to be a mother, and there is no place she would rather be than at home with her babies. Solve the daily Crossword
