Tom Lawrence has ‘three Rangers exit options' as two historic EFL clubs join big-spending Wrexham in free transfer race
TOM LAWRENCE has three English Championship sides keen to snap him up as a free agent, according to reports. The midfielder was freed by Rangers at the end of last season after his contract expired. 1 Tom Larence is mobbed after scoring against Steaua Bucharest in the Europa League Credit: Kenny Ramsay Lawrence, 31, struggled with injuries after arriving at Ibrox from Derby County, never playing more than 22 leagues games in his three years in Glasgow. In total he managed 65 appearances with 11 goals for the Light Blues. The Wales international has been the subject of interest from big-spending Wrexham, backed by ambitious Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Wrexham won promotion from League One last season and will now compete in the Championship alongside two other clubs that have emerged as potential suitors for Lawrence. According to Football League World and Welsh outlet The Daily Post, Lawrence is also being tracked by West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City. West Brom and Coventry both made pushes for Premier League promotion last season, with the Baggies missing out while the Sky Blues were beaten by Sunderland in the play-offs. Lawrence could be an replacement at the Hawthorns for John Swift, and for Jamie Paterson at the Coventry Arena. A move to Wrexham would represent something of a homecoming for Lawrence who was born in Wrexham but never actually played for the club. He first played for Everton as a youth before joining Manchester United at eight and working his way up the age groups at Old Trafford. But he never quite made the grade in Manchester and before leaving for Leicester City in 2014 he spent time on loan at Carlisle United and Yeovil Town, the latter when they were in the Championship. Rangers captain James Tavernier spotted training with ex-team-mate and old Premiership rival Ryan Porteous who branded him 'bad loser' Indeed, Lawrence has amassed the majority of his career appearances in the second tier of English football. He has turned out Rotherham United, Blackburn Rovers, Cardiff City, and Ipswich Town. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

‘Don't come here' – Pep Guardiola confirms Jack Grealish exit plan and says what Man City ace must do to rebuild career
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) PEP GUARDIOLA confirmed Jack Grealish's transfer exit plan. And he revealed what the £100million man must do to rebuild his career. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Pep Guardiola sent a clear message about Jack Grealish's future Credit: Reuters Grealish, 29, joined City from Aston Villa for the club-record fee in 2021. He has won three Premier League titles at the Etihad and played a key part in the 2022-23 Treble-winning season. However, Grealish managed just 715 Prem minutes last season and made seven starts - chipping in with one goal and one assist. The England international added four goal involvements in the FA Cup but was noticeably snubbed in favour of debutant teenager Claudio Echeverri when City trailed Crystal Palace in the final. READ MORE ON JACK GREALISH CAUGHT NAP-PING Man City to take loss on Grealish with Napoli torn over him and Garnacho SunSport exclusively revealed Grealish was told he is no longer part of Guardiola's plans - and would be snubbed from the squad at the Club World Cup. Guardiola was quizzed on his stance and the latest on Grealish when he spoke to the media ahead of their Wednesday Group G opener against Wydad. And he confirmed it was decided for the best that the playmaker did not travel to the United States. Asked if Grealish's future is away from the Etihad, the Spanish manager said: "I don't know. Now we decided 'don't come here' and what happens in the end I don't know. CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS "If we don't find [a transfer], he's a player for Man City and he will be back. "He had a conversation between him and the club and they decided it was best [to miss Club World Cup]. Jack Grealish has gone from eye-catching showman and heartthrob to miserable bench warmer - and I know who's to blame "Jack is an exceptional player. The only reason why he didn't play last season is of course my decisions. "We decide that he has to play. The club was honest, he was honest. "Incredible love and respect and we decided the best is to stay [behind] and have a place that he can feel like he can come back to be the player like he was in the year of the Treble or all his career in Aston Villa. "Without him, it would have been more difficult in the year of the Treble." SunSport also revealed both Newcastle and Bayer Leverkusen are considering moves for the former Aston Villa captain. Everton may also test the waters to lure him to their new stadium. Now we also understand Napoli could make a £45m bid for Grealish where he would reunite with Kevin De Bruyne. And Guardiola has given Grealish the blueprint to reigniting his football fire. The boss advised: "The fact is in the last two seasons, he didn't play many minutes. "He has to come back to play and have the butterflies in his stomach that he can play every three days, every three days and show again the quality he has."

Manchester United suffer major blow as Academy Director is poached by Premier League rival
Manchester United are losing their Academy Director to a Premier League rival after Nick Cox was poached by Everton. Cox, 47, has been instrumental behind the scenes at United and has been widely credited with revamping and improving an academy that has seen the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, Harry Amass, Chido Obi and more progress through to the first team in recent years. While Cox will remain as Academy Director for a few more months to ease the transition as United seek his successor, Mail Sport understands the chance to join Everton was one Cox felt was too good to turn down. He had previously been approached with technical director and sporting director jobs in Europe, as well as in the Premier League and the EFL. While it is a difficult decision to leave United, who are already seeking an Under-18s manager following the departure of boss Adam Lawrence at the start of the season, sources have said Cox was 'instantly excited' by the Everton offer. Everton's new owners, The Friedkin Group, are very ambitious and have made it a key focus to revamp their academy after seeing it stall in recent years due to financial issues. Cox has a clear track record of developing players and has overseen 38 first team debuts since being at the club, with 29 of those since becoming Academy Director. He has also being able to recruit players at a high level having been an instrumental figure in the moves to bring Garnacho to England and to recruit Obi from Arsenal. With sales of academy stars counting as 'pure profit' on the balance sheets, many of Everton's top youngsters have needed to be cashed in on instead of bled into the first team - but the hope will be to push more talent into David Moyes' side from next season. During his time at United, sales successes that can be linked to Cox are around the £100million mark, and that is expected to rise further due to various sell-on clauses for players such as Anthony Elanga, who is attracting interest from Newcastle United. Moyes is expected to delve into the academy set-up during pre-season given that 10 first team players have left the club, five as free agent and with five loans reaching expiry. More texts could follow also with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Idrissa Gana Gueye, Michael Keane and Seamus Coleman yet to sign extensions on deals that expire on June 30. Harrison Armstrong, the highest rated youngster in the academy after his loan at Derby last season, is one to keep an eye on.
