A wrestling legend has officially announced his retirement 21 years after his debut match.
TNA Wrestling icon Abyss, who is making history as his character appears in WWE 2K25 as part of today's Dunk & Destruction DLC pack, hasn't had a match since 2019 when he joined WWE behind the scenes as a producer.
Asked if he would appear in the Royal Rumble, Abyss – whose real name is Chris Park – exclusively told Metro: 'I'm officially retired.
'I'm so enthralled, and just intertwined with what I'm doing now as a producer, you know – I don't have any interests either. [Wrestling again is] not an option.'
Park, 51, admitted that the punishment he put his body through over the years has taken his toll.
'I'm getting up there in age, I'm still a young man,' he quipped. 'But my the old 'bump card' is tapped out for me.'
Instead, Park – who has never wrestled for WWE, but had a brief on screen stint as AJ Styles' statistician on SmackDown – is 'so focused on being the best producer I can be'.
Since February 2019, the man best known to fans as 'The Monster' Abyss has swapped his reputation for bloody and violent wrestling in favour of a career helping today's WWE stars plan out their matches.
He is grateful for his second career, and getting to work with and learn from the likes of Paul 'Triple H' Levesque, Michael Hayes, Ed Koski, Brian James and more.
'It's an incredible learning experience. There's some just amazing, brilliant minds,' he smiled.
'When you get three or four minds and three or four sets of eyeballs looking at something, and you get a collaboration – that's always when you get the best product, in the end.'
In another unexpected twist, Abyss will become the first TNA character in a WWE video game, having never featured on screen for the company.
He's in the newest WWE 2K25 DLC alongside Hall of Famer The Great Khali, and NBA stars Tyrese Haliburton, Shaquille O'Neal and Jalen Brunson.
Park described it as a 'bucket list moment', especially seeing his iconic persona in a WWE game with his beloved theme music and signature weapon Janice.
'I never imagined in a million years that I would have the opportunity to be in a WWE video game,' he beamed with pride, before revealing he was given a full body scan to accurately bring Abyss back to life.
'It's been an incredible process, you know, from the scans and the different elements to make it happen, make it come to life,' he added.
It's also been surreal for the 51-year-old former world champion to see the partnership between TNA and WWE.
'My entire run at TNA, which was a pretty significant amount of time, 2002 to 2019 … TNA and WWE working together, that wasn't an option back then,' he said.
'It's an incredible moment for TNA, for WWE. It's just been fantastic.'
Over the years, Abyss could have become a WWE superstar, with Park previously confirming offers to work with The Undertaker at WrestleMania.
'There were options there,' he admitted. '[But] I was a TNA guy. I was a lifer. I had been there since the very, very beginning, since the doors opened. For me, it was just a loyalty thing.'
Abyss gave TNA so many incredible moments while putting his body on the line in the name of entertainment.
He may have built his reputation on being a hardcore wrestling, but the man behind the mask admitted even he got 'scared'.
'Being nervous is a good thing. It keeps you sharp,' he explained. 'Every risky spot that I ever did in wrestling, obviously there was a high risk to it, but it was calculated.
'I tried to be smart about it, and but I was always nervous, and some of them were scary. The Bubba and D'Von chokeslam off the side of the stage through the fire table is one I perhaps wish I had back.'
Despite overtures from WWE, Park would have found it 'so incredibly hard' to leave, as his history 'weighed on him' as while making a decision.
'I was there for all the good and all the bad, and all the in between,' he chuckled. 'The friendships I forged there were just amazing.' More Trending
WWE fans will have to play as Abyss in WWE 2K25 to bring dream matches to life, and Park has some in mind.
'You gotta do Abyss/Undertaker,' he said. 'Then Kane. I had the opportunity to work with Mick Foley in TNA, but that'll be up there.
'I've got to revisit the classics, Abyss versus AJ Styles. Maybe in WWE 2k25 I can actually beat AJ!'

Unexpected breakthrough for Barney and Zack in EastEnders

Zack Hudson (James Farrar) might finally be able to form a bond with his son Barney Mitchell (Lewis Bridgeman) in EastEnders. Last month, Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) discovered that his wife Nicola (Laura Doddington) had an affair with Zack 16 years ago, and she fell pregnant. Their eldest son Harry (Elijah Holloway) was left reeling from the news, and decided to kidnap Zack – bundling him into the boot of a car and driving off into the woods. Although Teddy was furious, he didn't want anything bad to happen and charged after them both. In a dramatic turn of events, a dazed and confused Zack distracted Teddy behind the wheel and the car went plunging into some icy waters. It really didn't seem like anyone would make it out alive. Teddy stumbled onto the riverbank, while Zack was presumed dead. Luckily, he survived, but was in for a further amount of heartbreak when Barney decided that he didn't want a relationship with him. Nicola has since tried to gloss over the situation – this week hosting a Half-Christmas celebration to try and distract her stressed and broken teenage son. Harry was less than enthusiastic about the festivities, and decided to invite Zack along, telling him that Barney was hopeful of his attendance. Blissfully unaware that this was just a giant fib, Zack wandered in to No. 1 in tonight's episode with a gift for his son. Nicola ordered him out, but Teddy remained silent. Mortified by the reception, Zack left, but told Barney that he would forever be there should he need him. Later, an emotional Barns' headed to the cafe, where Teddy sat down for a heart to heart. He assured him that although they weren't biologically related, nothing had changed and he still considered him as his child. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? In a surprising move, Teddy gave his blessing for Barney to get to know Zack better. Barney asserted that he already had a dad and had no intentions of changing that. More Trending Opening his present, it contained a number of vouchers for a local book shop. He was warmed by the gesture, and when Zack arrived, asked if they'd like to get to know one another better as friends. It wasn't exactly how Zack had wanted things to go, but it was a step in the right direction. View More » Is this the start of some happiness for the two? Emmerdale reveals outcome of Robert's spiking ordeal as John takes control

John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) played a very clever game after watching Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) get spiked in Emmerdale. Yesterday, Robert had his drink drugged by a man he was on a date with. Conveniently, John was also at The Hide sorting his van out, and watched the situation unfold. Desperate to get rid of his brother, John realised that having him drugged would be the perfect opportunity. He waited for Robert to drink the liquid, threw him in the van, and drove off. The start of tonight's episode allowed us to learn that John changed tactics and did not go as far as murdering his sibling. Instead, he called Victoria (Isabel Hodgins), who agreed with the idea of keeping Robert in the van overnight while the drug wore off. Weird to us, but whatever. In the morning, Robert woke up and was terribly confused. As he panicked, the van doors opened and he saw John with a syringe in his hand. He tackled his brother to the ground, and was confused when Vic approached, aware of what was going on. John spun a story and made it seem as though he had every intention of helping Robert. The medicine in his hand was to calm him down, but Robert struggled to believe him. Because the story was backed up by Vic, it fuelled the perception that John was doing everything in his power to help their brother. He had seemingly thought about everything, including that it would've created more problems for Robert if the hospital learnt about his spiking. Vic spent the entire day stuck in the middle of her brothers. One minute John was telling her that Robert is a dangerous man and then the next, Robert was trying to convince Vic that John is bad news. Taking action, Vic took John and Robert to a piece of land. She explained that not too long ago, their relatives would spend hours looking after the farm, and wouldn't let family fights bother them for long, because they had to work together. Vic hoped that the pep talk would inspire John and Robert to clear the air. They decided that they would, which left Vic surprised. More Trending As she walked away, it became apparent that John and Robert had no intention of ending their feud. They shook hands and hugged which impressed Vic, but that's because she didn't hear what either of them said. John is still certain he can get rid of Robert, who is still adamant he won't be leaving the village anytime soon. View More » But who will get the upper hand? John Cena vows ‘there's no way' he'll return to WWE after shock retirement

John Cena has declared that he will never return to WWE after embarking on a retirement tour. The 48-year-old made history in April by becoming the most decorated wrestler in history, after taking home his record-breaking 17th championship win. Last year, he announced his decision to step away from competing for good following the end of his tour, with his last performances slated for December. During an appearance on Good Morning America to promote his new Amazon Prime movie, Heads of State, he lifted the lid on his time in front of the camera. 'I've been lifting and throwing folks for 25 years now,' he told host Michael Strahan. 'I wanted to do something that's never been done – six months before the tour, I announced my retirement. 'I said, for the year, I would perform in 36 states. We're halfway through, and I think nobody thought I was serious. 'Now that we're halfway through and people really understand that my last match is in December and it's time for me to move on, the audiences have been electric.' When the presenter asked if there was a 'slight chance' he could stage another return in the future, John insisted: 'There is no way. 'There is absolutely… I don't want to speak in absolutes, because I don't want to close any opportunity, but I made a promise to the fans who have allowed me to be here for a quarter of a century. They allowed me to sit with you today. 'I wouldn't want to disrespect them like that. This is an event, when people attend, it's very exclusive… 'I wouldn't want to ruin that just for selfish gain.' 'Speaking to a retired athlete, I think you intrinsically know when your instinct says, I'm a step slower,' he added. 'It's then just a battle of, 'How long do I fight those red flags before it could be counterproductive?' 'I still look good, I still feel good, I still feel like I can perform at a WWE level, but I also think it's time for me to step aside and let the young talent step forward.' The athlete-turned-actor stepped into the ring in the early 00s and has barely left the spotlight since, winning a string of championships in that time. He later turned his attention to Hollywood and has appeared in a string of films, including Daddy's Home, the Fast and Furious franchise, Suicide Squad, Ricky Stanicky and Barbie. More Trending Although he is retiring, John previously shared that he will still remain a staple of WWE, and will be serving as an ambassador in future. In a chat with Extra, he added: 'This is my final year in the WWE. I'm retiring this year. We're about halfway through, so I look forward to officially closing the book on in-ring competition.
