The Nvidia GPU Technology Conference (GTC) in San Jose this March was electrifying. A few of my colleagues were fortunate enough to attend, and discussing their experiences has been thrilling. Their biggest insight echoed what I've been hearing from energized executives across industries: AI has moved past experimental pilots and into the operational core of businesses. This isn't edge experimentation anymore. It's a full re-architecture of how companies compete.
Here are three signals from GTC that show just how fast the AI future is arriving.
Massive, general-purpose models are giving way to leaner, fine-tuned ones designed for specific tasks. Techniques like quantization, pruning, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) are pushing down costs without compromising quality. More companies are moving toward self-hosting for greater control, privacy, and speed. But this shift adds complexity—and few are fully equipped for the ops required.
What's next? The real winners will plan for a world where AI inference is significantly cheaper, opening the door to broader adoption and new competitive dynamics. They won't just unlock productivity—they'll rethink their entire business models. AI will redefine what they offer, not just how they operate. Forward-looking CEOs will push past automation and into innovation, applying AI to build new products, hyper-personalize experiences, and create entirely new services.
We're quickly moving from assistants to agentic AI. Though fully autonomous agents remain rare, semiautonomous ones—with human oversight—are gaining ground. Trust in these systems hinges on structured design: transparency, escalation paths, redundancy guardrails, traceability and auditability in production, and predictability. Frameworks like Nvidia's AgentIQ and emerging 'agent orchestration platforms' could help simplify the creation and integration of AI agents into enterprise systems.
What can companies do today to prepare? Start with high-ROI use cases, then test fast and iterate even faster. It's also key to prepare your data to enable agent success. Leaders should be wary of standalone platforms, interrogating the quality of connectors to other systems. Most importantly, the organizations that win with agentic AI will be ones that prioritize learning. They will foster experimentation and embrace continuous improvement.
Tools like Nvidia Picasso and Adobe Firefly are putting creative firepower in everyone's hands by generating product visuals, videos, 3D assets, and social content from simple prompts. Creative pipelines from platforms like RunwayML, Canva, and Synthesia are speeding up campaign cycles and unlocking personalization at scale. It's never been easier to deliver high-quality content—fast.
Most companies won't build solutions in-house. Instead, smart marketers are piloting vendors to see which ones best fit their needs—and scaling quickly when they find a match. The selection process should move much faster than a typical marketing technology investment.
Early adopters are already reaping the benefits: They've reduced campaign time to market by up to 50% and cut content creation time by 30% to 50%. In a recent Bain & Company survey, 27% of executives said generative AI has exceeded or far exceeded their expectations for marketing.
To accelerate the next phase of generative AI maturity, CMOs will need to commit to bold ambitions and results. That means prioritizing big wins rather than letting a thousand flowers bloom. Marketing leaders will define their own workflows and opportunities, then partner with IT to cocreate solutions. For broad adoption, they will tailor training to employees' day-to-day work, showing where generative AI can complement and enhance their roles.

Revenue Growth Examining a company's long-term performance can provide clues about its quality. Any business can put up a good quarter or two, but the best consistently grow over the long haul. Thankfully, Amphastar Pharmaceuticals's 16.7% annualized revenue growth over the last five years was impressive. Its growth beat the average healthcare company and shows its offerings resonate with customers. Long-term growth is the most important, but within healthcare, a half-decade historical view may miss new innovations or demand cycles. Amphastar Pharmaceuticals's annualized revenue growth of 15.6% over the last two years is below its five-year trend, but we still think the results suggest healthy demand. This quarter, Amphastar Pharmaceuticals missed Wall Street's estimates and reported a rather uninspiring 4.4% year-on-year revenue decline, generating $174.4 million of revenue. Looking ahead, sell-side analysts expect revenue to grow 1.1% over the next 12 months, a deceleration versus the last two years. This projection doesn't excite us and indicates its products and services will face some demand challenges. Unless you've been living under a rock, it should be obvious by now that generative AI is going to have a huge impact on how large corporations do business. Adjusted Operating Margin Adjusted operating margin is one of the best measures of profitability because it tells us how much money a company takes home after subtracting all core expenses, like marketing and R&D. It also removes various one-time costs to paint a better picture of normalized profits. Amphastar Pharmaceuticals has been an efficient company over the last five years. It was one of the more profitable businesses in the healthcare sector, boasting an average adjusted operating margin of 29.3%. Analyzing the trend in its profitability, Amphastar Pharmaceuticals's adjusted operating margin rose by 19 percentage points over the last five years, as its sales growth gave it immense operating leverage. Zooming in on its more recent performance, we can see the company's trajectory is intact as its margin has also increased by 3.1 percentage points on a two-year basis. In Q2, Amphastar Pharmaceuticals generated an adjusted operating margin profit margin of 31.4%, down 5.4 percentage points year on year. This contraction shows it was less efficient because its expenses increased relative to its revenue. Earnings Per Share Revenue trends explain a company's historical growth, but the long-term change in earnings per share (EPS) points to the profitability of that growth – for example, a company could inflate its sales through excessive spending on advertising and promotions. Amphastar Pharmaceuticals's EPS grew at an astounding 53.3% compounded annual growth rate over the last five years, higher than its 16.7% annualized revenue growth. This tells us the company became more profitable on a per-share basis as it expanded. We can take a deeper look into Amphastar Pharmaceuticals's earnings to better understand the drivers of its performance. As we mentioned earlier, Amphastar Pharmaceuticals's adjusted operating margin declined this quarter but expanded by 19 percentage points over the last five years. This was the most relevant factor (aside from the revenue impact) behind its higher earnings; interest expenses and taxes can also affect EPS but don't tell us as much about a company's fundamentals. In Q2, Amphastar Pharmaceuticals reported adjusted EPS at $0.85, down from $0.94 in the same quarter last year. Despite falling year on year, this print easily cleared analysts' estimates. Over the next 12 months, Wall Street expects Amphastar Pharmaceuticals's full-year EPS of $3.47 to shrink by 5.9%. Analysis-Trump call to oust Intel CEO Tan could sidetrack chipmaker's turnaround
By Arsheeya Bajwa (Reuters) -Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan is already facing an uphill battle in turning around the ailing chipmaker. Now, U.S. President Donald Trump's demand that Tan resign over his ties to Chinese firms will only distract him from that task, two investors and a former senior employee said. Trump said on Thursday that Tan was "highly conflicted" due to his Chinese connections. Reuters reported exclusively in April that Tan had invested in hundreds of Chinese firms, some of which were linked to the Chinese military. Tan may now have to mount an effort to reassure Trump that he remains the right person to revive the storied American chipmaker, pulling his focus away from the cost cuts he's trying to implement. "It is distracting," said Ryuta Makino, analyst at Intel investor Gabelli Funds, which, according to LSEG data, owns more than 200,000 shares in Intel. "I think Trump will make goals for Intel to spend more, and I don't think Intel has the capabilities to spend more, like what Apple and Nvidia are doing." AI chip market leader Nvidia and iPhone-maker Apple have committed hundreds of billions of dollars to expand domestic manufacturing, which, according to Trump, will bring jobs back home. Until recently, Intel had emerged as one of the biggest beneficiaries of the 2022 CHIPS Act, as former CEO Pat Gelsinger laid out plans to build advanced chipmaking factories. Tan, however, has significantly pared back such ambitions, as the company's goal of rivaling Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC's contract manufacturing chops have fallen short. Tan said last month that he would slow construction work on new factories in Ohio and planned to build factories only when he saw demand for Intel's chips, a move that is likely to further strain relations with Trump. The company, its board and Tan were making significant investments aligned with Trump's America First agenda, Intel said in a statement on Thursday, without any mention of Trump's demand. The statement was "bland", said David Wagner, a portfolio manager at Intel shareholder Aptus Capital Advisors, which owns Intel stock through index funds. "Either defend your leader, which will be the beginning of a difficult road ahead, or consider making a change," Wagner said. Having this play out over a few months is not something that Intel can afford, he said. Tan himself released a statement late on Thursday. "The United States has been my home for more than 40 years. I love this country and am profoundly grateful for the opportunities it has given me. I also love this company," he said, adding that the board was "fully supportive of the work we are doing to transform our company." "BUILT ON TRUST" Tan, a chip industry veteran, took the helm at Intel about six months ago, after the board ousted previous boss Pat Gelsinger over years of missteps and burgeoning losses. The company's shares are largely flat this year after losing nearly two-thirds of their value last year. Tan was the CEO of chip-design software maker Cadence Design from 2008 through December 2021. Cadence last month agreed to plead guilty and pay more than $140 million to resolve charges for selling its products to a Chinese military university believed to be involved in simulating nuclear blasts, Reuters reported. The sales to Chinese entities occurred under his leadership. Reuters reported on Wednesday that U.S. Republican Senator Tom Cotton sent a letter to Intel's board chair with questions about Tan's ties to Chinese firms and the criminal case involving Cadence. "There has been a lot of misinformation circulating about my past roles," Tan said in his statement on Thursday. "I have always operated within the highest legal and ethical standards. My reputation has been built on trust," he said. It is not illegal for U.S. citizens to hold stakes in Chinese companies unless those companies have been added to the U.S. Treasury's Chinese Military-Industrial Complex Companies List, which explicitly bans such investments. Reuters in April had found no evidence that Tan at the time was invested directly in any company on that list. But Trump's remarks have now forced the limelight on an issue that could erode investor confidence. "If you add in another layer of government scrutiny, and everybody looking into how the company is doing whatever it's doing ... that just makes it harder," said a former senior executive at Intel, who was familiar with the company's strategy under Gelsinger. The source, who declined to be named, was let go as part of Gelsinger's workforce reduction drive last year. Tan's strategy is to "get rid of all of the non-productive parts of the company and really focus on a key few products," the person said. "If (Tan) leaves, it's going to just prolong whatever Intel has to do and needs to do really quickly."

Record-setting market: Using ETFs to help avoid hefty tax bills
A major exchange-traded fund provider is getting ready to launch a fund designed to ease investors' tax burdens from a record-setting stock market. Even though ETFs are considered more tax efficient than mutual funds, Astoria Portfolio Advisors plans to launch the Astoria U.S. Enhanced Core Equity ETF (LCOR) in October. The fund uses a tax-mitigation strategy that's known as an exchange or conversion under Section 351 of the tax code. When a stock has a huge run-up, investors may end up overconcentrated in that name, putting them on the hook for large capital gains taxes if they try to sell down the position. With a Section 351 exchange, investors may be able to reallocate some of that position without triggering capital gains taxes. They transfer those assets to a newly created ETF and receive shares of that fund in exchange. Bruce Lavine, the firm's chief operating officer and head of ETFs, thinks LCOR is particularly relevant as Big Tech's outperformance can leave investors with a pretty hefty tax bill if they take profits. "The idea behind a 351 fund is that you have a lot of stocks that get stuck from a tax perspective because they're up so much. Think about buying Nvidia two years ago. Perhaps you bought Microsoft 10 years ago," he told CNBC's "ETF Edge" this week. Based on Thursday's close, Nvidia has gained 83% over the past year, while Microsoft has jumped 31% in the same period. As of July 15, Big Tech stocks comprise one-third of the S&P 500, according to S&P Global. VettaFi Head of Research Todd Rosenbluth suggests Astoria is tapping into growing yearning for more tax efficiency. "ETFs in general are a tax-efficient vehicle, so you don't pay capital gains unless you're buying and selling," he said. "This is really focused for people who have a concentrated individual stock position and want to move that in instead of buying an ETF and holding it necessarily the same way."
