Ex-Ireland International in surprising move to Conor McGregor's Black Forge FC

The transfer window may still be open but there won't be a more surprising move this summer than that of ex-Republic of Ireland International Anthony Stokes joining Conor McGregor's pub team Black Forge FC. Black Forge FC is the pub team for Conor McGregor's Black Forge Inn in Walkinstown, Dublin. McGregor is an avid football fan, having played the game in his youth before picking up MMA and is a Manchester United fan. He's lined out for Black Forge FC on numerous occasions this season as they completed a league and cup double last season. They are now surely hot favorites to retain their titles yet again after the addition of the ex-Celtic striker Anthony Stokes. Anthony Stokes. Pic: INPHO/Ryan Byrne Stokes, 37, joins the pub team after not playing professionally since 2020 when he had an unsuccessful spell at Livingston. Before then he had made a name for himself in Scottish football with Hibernian and Celtic, winning four league titles and three Scottish Cups during his time there. He's also played football in countries like Greece, Turkey and even Iran, however it hasn't been a smooth time for Stokes since he last played in 2020. However it is believed he will now make his return after his registration with Black Forge FC was posted on twitter. Credit: @dubslife1/ X(formerly Twitter) He's had numerous issues with the law, including last year when he was jailed for five months for breaching a court order and repeatedly harassing his ex-girlfriend. He has most recently had a sentence overturned on appeal as he was sentenced to 15 months in prison on drug dealing and drunk and dangerous driving offences. McGregor has recently lost his appeal against a High Court jury that he raped Nikita Hand and has launched a petition that aims to change the nomination process ahead of the Irish presidential election, due to the fact that he needs to receive a nomination from at least 20 members of the Oireachtas, either TDs or Senators, or from four local authorities.

John Obi Mikel opens up on his dad being kidnapped TWICE as he reveals he played World Cup clash without telling anyone

JOHN OBI MIKEL has revealed the terrifying moment he found out his dad had been kidnapped — for the second time. He said he received the news moments before his country's most important World Cup match. Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast with Gary Lineker, the former midfielder opened up about the trauma of both kidnappings, revealing he didn't even tell his manager about the second one. Mikel, now retired, explained the first incident happened when he was playing for Chelsea under boss Andre Villas-Boas. He said: 'My dad has his own business now which I helped him set up, and he was driving home from work with his driver. Advertisement 'A car pulled over in front of them with guns and everything — they got out and took him away.' "I remember AVB asked me, 'Do you want to play the game or not?. "I was finally back in the team, I was playing well — so I told him I'd think about it. "In the end I decided to play but the whole family was crying on the phone." Advertisement Mikel said the negotiations felt 'like buying a car,' with back-and-forth demands until they agreed on a fee. He added: 'I got on the phone with the kidnappers after. It was horrible, my dad was screaming, telling me, 'Whatever they want, just give it to them." remier League stars claim they are being 'held hostage' in 'abandoned airport for 12 hours with no food and water' "I wired the money back home, my brother withdrew it and they were told where to drop it off. They said come back in 30 minutes.' The second kidnapping came when dad Michael was snatched before Nigeria's World Cup match against Argentina. Advertisement He said: 'I was in my room getting ready for the game (World Cup). My phone kept ringing and eventually, I picked up. 'My brother said, 'We weren't going to tell you, but we have to, it's happened again. Dad has been kidnapped." Mikel revealed he was torn on whether to tell anyone, adding: 'I sat there for 30 minutes thinking, 'Should I tell the coach? Should I tell the team?' "In the end, I decided not to. I went out and played.' I couldn't focus. Advertisement "All I kept thinking was, 'How am I going to get my dad out of this again?. "At some point, I blanked out I wasn't even seeing what was going on.' Despite everything, Mikel played the full match keeping the situation completely to himself. Nigeria lost narrowly 2-1, with Lionel Messi on the scoresheet for Argentina. Advertisement That result, in Nigeria's final group game, saw the South Americans leapfrog them into second place and into the last-16. Michael was eventually released but the son Mikel admits the trauma of those moments still haunts him today.
