Oregon Football QB target Matt Ponatoski joins Randy Moss with rare accomplishment
Dan Lanning has demonstrated a trend of recruiting dual-sport athletes over the past few years and utilizing players who specialize in sports other than football for the Oregon Ducks. We've seen this most notably with linebacker Bryce Boettcher, who was drafted by the Houston Astros last year, and 5-star tight end commit Kendre Harrison is another example, excelling in both football and basketball.
It appears that the Ducks are after another elite dual-sport athlete in 4-star QB Matt Ponatoski. On Tuesday, it was announced that Ponatoski accomplished a rare feat, winning the Ohio Gatorade Player of the Year for both football and baseball.
According to WCPO's Mike Dyer, Ponatoski is one of only three players to ever accomplish this in the 40 years that Gatorade has been giving out the awards, joining Randy Moss (football and basketball) and Matt Bauer (football and baseball).
Last week it was announced that Ponatoski — the No. 293 player and No. 22 QB in the class — will take an official visit to Oregon on June 20. That will be a massive weekend for the Ducks, with 5-star OT Immanuel Iheanacho, 5-star TE Mark Bowman, 5-star TE Kendre Harrison, and 5-star ATH Jalen Lott all in town as well.

Former Texas A&M wide receiver is facing a season-ending injury

Former Texas A&M wide receiver is facing a season-ending injury The Oregon Ducks received unfortunate news on Friday when it was announced that star wide receiver Evan Stewart suffered an injury that could sideline him for most of the 2025 season, if not the entire year. According to Ducks Wire's Zachary Neel, multiple sources confirmed that former five-star senior WR Evan Stewart sustained a knee injury, which will keep him out for most of next season. The former Texas A&M Aggie was expected to be a key contributor for the Ducks after losing Tex Johnson and Traeshon Holden to the NFL. While at Texas A&M, Stewart showed flashes of talent, recording 91 receptions for 1,163 yards and six touchdowns in his two seasons in the Maroon & White. He earned All-SEC and All-American honors after his freshman season but struggled to stay on the field. Of the 25 possible games, he played in just 18, missing a third of the 2023 season. Stewart will likely use a redshirt year, and we wish him a speedy recovery for the 2026 football season. Nation's No. 3 Recruit Drops Cryptic Message After Finalizing Top 4 Schools

Nation's No. 3 Recruit Drops Cryptic Message After Finalizing Top 4 Schools originally appeared on Athlon Sports. As the college football offseason continues to roll on, many teams are starting to put a tremendous amount of effort into landing players in the 2026 recruiting class. Advertisement One name that has been making a lot of noise is Class of 2026 offensive tackle Immanuel Iheanacho out of Baltimore, Maryland, who stands at a staggering 6-foot-7 and weighs 350 pounds On Friday, On3's Hayes Fawcett reported that Iheanacho has significantly narrowed down his list and will be choosing between LSU Tigers, Oregon Ducks, Penn State Nittany Lions and Auburn Tigers. Of course, it's a big decision, and Iheanacho even went to social media to get the opinion of some fans, reposting Fawcett's report with a caption featuring a house emoji followed by a question mark. There's no doubt that all four of these teams would love to land him, as he's listed as a five-star recruit, the No. 2 offensive tackle, the No. 1 player in Maryland and the No. 3 player in the nation, per On3 Industry Rankings. Advertisement Throughout his high school career, Iheanacho has proven to be a dominant player, being named a 2024 MaxPreps Junior All-American after not allowing a single sack during his most recent season. Of course, all four programs will get a chance to host Iheanacho for official visits. He'll be at Auburn on Friday, having already visited LSU on May 30, and will visit Penn State on June 13 and Oregon on June 20. Penn State Nittany Lions head coach James Franklin and Oregon Ducks head coach Dan LanningRobert Goddin-Imagn Images Before making his official decision on Aug. 5, much of the momentum favors Oregon, as the On3 recruiting prediction machine currently gives it the best chances (86.1%) to land Iheanacho's commitment. 5-Star Recruit Immanuel Iheanacho Names His Top 4 Schools

5-Star Recruit Immanuel Iheanacho Names His Top 4 Schools originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Five-star Class of 2026 recruit Immanuel Iheanacho narrowed his list to the top four schools heading into the summer on Friday. Advertisement Iheanacho is an offensive tackle for Georgetown Preparatory School in Baltimore, Maryland, and is considering the Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers, Oregon Ducks and Penn State Nittany Lions as his options, according to On3 reporter Keegan Pope. The four schools are the only ones he has officially visited, and he plans to announce his commitment on Aug. 5. Heading into June, Iheanacho indicated that Oregon is his first option. 'Oregon is the top school, but these official visits will play a big part in my final decision,' he told On3 reporter Chad Simmons. 'My relationship with the coaches at Oregon is what has them at the top. I like the staff a lot, and we can talk about anything.' Iheanacho has already visited the Dan Lanning-led Ducks twice and left pleased both times. Advertisement 'My second visit there was great,' he continued. 'I loved my first one, too. My parents also love Oregon, so it helps to get their opinion. The connection with the coaching staff is really the biggest thing for me with Oregon.' The Ducks are well known for their strong offensive line, so adding Iheanacho would be a solid choice. He showcased his superior blocking skills as a 6-foot-6, 345-pound lineman in the Under Armor All-American Game on Jan. 2 in Deland, Florida, and the Polynesian Bowl on Jan. 16 in Honolulu. This season as a junior, he was named a MaxPreps All-American for not allowing a single sack the entire season en route to helping Georgetown Prep win its fifth Interstate Athletic Conference title in six years, per his 247 Sports player profile. Rebilas-Imagn Images Furthermore, as a sophomore, Iheanacho helped his team go 8-2 and primarily played left tackle but sometimes right tackle. He also received first-team all-league honors that season because of his outstanding ability to prevent opposing defenders from sacking the quarterback.
