Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal is in his sixth major league season after a breakout 2024 campaign that earned him his first All-Star game appearance, Cy Young Award and pitching Triple Crown.

The 28-year-old southpaw debuted during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season and spent the next few years refining his mechanics while battling injuries in Detroit's rotation.
In 2024, Skubal reached his full potential posting a 2.39 ERA, 18–4 record, and 228 strikeouts over 192 innings. His performance last year also earned him a seventh-place finish in MVP voting.

The Tigers announced exciting news ahead of Sunday's series finale against the Minnesota Twins.
The team wrote, "Standing room only tickets are available for tomorrow night's 7:10 p.m. game. Tarik Skubal is slated to start in our first time hosting ESPN Sunday Night Baseball since May, 2017.'
Entering Saturday with a 51–32 record—best in the American League—it's no surprise Skubal gets the nod, given his key role in the team's success. He has dominated hitters again this year, evidenced by a 9–2 record and a 2.29 ERA.
