Taron Egerton gives hopeful update on Kingsman 3

Perth Now11-07-2025
Taron Egerton still thinks a third Kingsman movie will happen.
Work on the next action/spy flick has been ongoing since the 2021 prequel The King's Man, though director Matthew Vaughn, 54, previously said the project had been slowed due to Egerton's busy schedule.
Now, the 35-year-old actor - who portrayed Gary 'Eggsy' Unwin in 2014's Kingsman: The Secret Service and its 2017 sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle - has insisted that he, Vaugn and Harry Hart actor Colin Firth are all still keen to make a third movie.
When The Playlist asked Egerton about Vaughn's delay comments, he replied: 'Is that what he said? Yeah, he's so funny.
'He did call me on Friday night, actually. Yeah, look, we both want to do it. And I know Colin is open to doing it, too.
'I think the interesting thing will be figuring out whether we all see the same thing. I love Matthew. Matthew is like family to me.
'I really think there's a brilliant story to tell with the third Kingsman. And I still think it will happen.'
Kingsman: The Secret Service - which also starred Mark Strong, Michael Caine and Samuel L. Jackson - follows a rebellious teen who is recruited into a secret spy organisation and trained to become a gentleman agent.
As a tech billionaire plots global destruction, the rookie must rise to the challenge and stop him before it's too late.
The film proved to be a critical and commercial hit when it debuted in 2014, bringing in $414.51 million at the box office on a production budget of $81 million.
While the sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle wasn't as well-received by critics when it released in 2017, it was still a box office success - grossing $410.9 million against a production budget of $104 million.
Egerton previously said he hoped the third Kingsman movie would be a 'fitting' conclusion to the spy franchise.
He told Collider: '[Vaughn] has every intention of making it, and I have every intention of playing Eggsy one more time. That was always what I thought I was committed to doing.
'It's the role that made my name, I suppose, in a way, I just want it to be absolutely right if we do it again, and I want the story to do justice to the part that really changed my life.
'I want it to be a fitting ending. And I would, obviously, really hope that Colin would come back for at least a part of it, and who knows? We'll have to see, but we are planning to talk about it, actually, the next time we see one another, so who knows? Watch this space.'
The Rocketman star suggested the Argylle filmmaker wanted to put the relationship between Eggsy and Harry to the test in the third movie.
Egerton explained: 'Eggsy and Harry [will be in it], obviously. But it's the gang coming back together, and it's one of those moments that ... when we wrote the screenplay, it was very much about, okay, I saw how people loved the relationship of Eggsy and Harry.
'So we just came up with this thing, what could be the ultimate reason for them to either fall in love or to hate each other forever? So that's what this movie is all about is will they or won't they, let's just say.'

Carl Weathers was set for a 'massive part' in Happy Gilmore 2 prior to his death

Carl Weathers was due to have a "massive part" in Happy Gilmore 2 before his death. The Rocky actor passed away in February 2024 at the age of 76 and lead actor Adam Sandler revealed that the sad news meant a "painful change" needed to be made to the forthcoming sequel - even though Carl's alter ego Derick 'Chubbs' Peterson died in the original 1996 golf comedy. Sandler, 58, told Collider: "We had a painful change. Carl Weathers had a massive part. "I would talk to Carl, and we were excited, and then Carl passed away. We had to rewrite a lot of the stuff, and even what the story was. We made a lot of nice references to how great Chubbs was in the movie. That was the biggest change." Weathers was due to appear in the sequel as an early draft of the script had Chubbs visiting Sandler's titular character in his dreams. The 50 First Dates star explained: "In the first version that we came up with, he had a son. He was coming back to me a lot in my dreams, and he had a son who was mad at Happy for causing the death of daddy." Although he was sadly unable to feature in the movie - which will be released on Netflix on July 25 - Sandler and director Kyle Newacheck want the sequel to remember Chubbs' spirit. The filmmaker said: "You can't make Happy Gilmore without Chubbs Peterson. "It doesn't exist. You can be assured his spirit is throughout the film. He may not be by Happy's side anymore, but he's on his shoulder." NFL star Travis Kelce - who is dating pop superstar Taylor Swift - features in the sequel and described it as a "dream come true" to be working with Sandler. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end told The Pat McAfee Show earlier this year: "That was a dream come true. "I thought SNL was going to be the peak of my acting and showman or entertainment career. "Working with Happy Gilmore himself, the Sandman and Happy Productions, it was off the chain." Kelce revealed that he found Sandler to be "every bit as cool off the screen as he is on the screen" during the making of the film. He said: "They're so professional and yet so fun to work with. "I felt like I was working with like the [Chiefs' coach] Andy Reid of the acting world. "[Sandler] is every bit as cool off the screen as he is on the screen. "That was a dream come true. That was awesome." Sandler admitted that the NFL star is "funny and cool as hell" when he confirmed his cameo role in the comedy flick. He told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: "We have a nice something for Travis. He's gonna come by. "He's a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He's a stud and he's so funny."

Millie Bobby Brown has been cast in her first Netflix romantic comedy

Millie Bobby Brown and Gabriel LaBelle have been cast in new romantic comedy Just Picture It. The Stranger Things star will team up with LaBelle on the new film for Netflix, which will be directed by The Age of Adeline filmmaker Lee Toland Krieger. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film focuses on two carefree college students left shocked when a glitch in their phones show pictures from 10 years in the future with them as a happily married couple with a family. However, there is another twist as they haven't actually met yet. The movie has been written by former Late Show with David Letterman joke scribe Jesse Lasky, with Krieger - who also directed a number of episodes for Netflix series You - at the helm. Brown - who has been involved in the project since its inception - will be making her first rom-com appearance. LaBelle's breakout role came as a young Steven Spielberg in his semi-autobiographical drama The Fabelmans, and last year he played Lorne Michaels in Saturday Night. In November, Brown will be back on screen for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, but she has already been working on other roles away from Eleven. Earlier this year, she starred with Chris Pratt in sci-fi adventure movie The Electric State, while last year she was in dragon fantasy film Damsel. The 21-year-old actress has also recently wrapped filming on Elona Holmes 3, which sees her reprising her titular role as Sherlock Holmes teenage detective sister. As well as Brown, Louis Partridge will be back as Tewkesbury, while Henry Cavill as Sherlock, Helena Bonham-Carter as family matriarch Eudoria Holmes, Himesh Patel as Dr. Watson and Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Moriarty have all signed up to return. Philip Barantini will direct this time, while his Adolescence collaborator Jack Thorne is once again writing the script, having previously penned the first two movies, which are based on Nancy Springer's Enola Holmes Mysteries series. A synopsis from Netflix revealed the movie will be set in Malta, where "personal and professional dreams collide in a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before". Brown previously expressed hope that a third film would be made as she loved playing the role in the 2020 mystery detective movie and the 2022 sequel. She told Collider: "Obviously. I really hope so. I love Enola, and I know that, now, people are very much invested in the character and the plot, and I can only hope that Netflix provides that trust and opportunity once more."
