KK to host 37th Territorial Army Commanders' Conference June 18

KOTA KINABALU (June 5): Kota Kinabalu will host the 37th Territorial Army Commanders' Conference (SKAW) Series 2025 on June 18.
Assistant Chief of the Reserve Force, Major General Datuk Mohd Razief Che Ahmad, said Kota Kinabalu is the first location for the conference this year, following Perlis at the end of last year.
'This commanders' conference is held twice a year, and for this year, the first session will be in Kota Kinabalu. The purpose of this meeting is to discuss matters related to strengthening the Territorial Army (AW) in terms of operations, administration, logistics and more,' he explained.
'That is what we will discuss to ensure the Territorial Army continues to improve in the future,' he added.
According to Razief, the conference will be attended by 16 Territorial Army commanders from across Malaysia.
'The Territorial Army Commanders' Conference will be attended by 16 commanders, all holding the rank of Colonel or Brigadier General, from all over Malaysia who will gather here for the meeting,' he said during a media briefing after paying a courtesy visit to Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Thursday.
He added that his visit aimed to invite Tun Musa as the guest of honor at a dinner event held in conjunction with the conference.
'Following the conference, we will hold a dinner in collaboration with the State Government, and we have also invited Tun Musa as the guest of honor at the event,' he said

PENAMPANG (May 31): The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, officiated the closing of the State-level Kaamatan Festival 2025 at Hongkod Koisaan KDCA here on Saturday. Tun Musa was accompanied by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor during the traditional mongomot (rice harvesting) ceremony, which was followed by the symbolic striking of the gong seven times to mark the end of this year's celebration. Also taking part in the mongomot ceremony were KDCA President Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan; Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam; Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya; Finance Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun and Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Dato Sri Tiong King Sing. The Chief Minister's wife, Datin Seri Panglima Datuk Hajah Juliah Salag, was also present. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier officiated the opening of the State-level Kaamatan Festival at the same venue on Friday.

Solar streetlights for all Sabah villages

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as part of the federal government's immediate efforts to expand basic amenities for rural communities. He stated that this measure was implemented after discovering that previous proposals involved excessively high costs. Now, the government has successfully formulated a more practical and feasible plan to be carried out in phases using solar technology. 'We are starting in Sabah. Almost all villages will have solar-powered streetlights this year. They are affordable yet bright, and I have approved the necessary allocation,' he said during his speech at the official opening of the 2025 Sabah State-Level Kaamatan Festival Celebration at the Hongkod Koisaan Hall (KDCA) on Friday. In his address, Anwar emphasized the importance of close cooperation between the state and federal governments, stating that Sabah's demands are now being heard directly in national development meetings such as the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan. This new approach reflects a major shift in development policy formulation, which is no longer entirely decided at the federal ministry level without direct consideration of state needs. 'That is why, if we want Sabah to progress, there must be a spirit to build Sabah's strength and do this together with a sense of unity within one nation,' he said. He also assured that the Federal Government is ready to discuss revenue-sharing matters with the Sabah State Government, as previously agreed with Sarawak, including oil and gas issues. 'I have no problem prioritizing revenue for Sabah, but let the negotiations be conducted harmoniously, not through shouting and cursing. I suggest working together with the State Government and cooperating with the Federal Government so that the benefits reach the people,' he added. Anwar also praised the spirit of unity among Sabah's diverse ethnic groups and the role of the Kadazandusun Cultural Association (KDCA) in preserving the heritage and noble values of the local community. Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam and Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya and KDCA President Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan.
