Alex Bowman soars to Busch Light Pole in Bristol qualifying
Bowman's No. 48 Chevrolet will lead the field to green after topping the charts at 128.675 mph.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (128.563 mph), Kyle Larson (128.511 mph), Denny Hamlin (128.460 mph) and Ryan Blaney (128.305 mph) rounded out the top five.
Ty Gibbs (128.305 mph), Christopher Bell (128.185 mph), AJ Allmendinger (127.903 mph), Carson Hocevar (127.758 mph) and Justin Haley (127.665 mph) completed the top 10.
Kyle Busch and Joey Logano both ran into trouble on their qualifying runs. On his second flying lap, Busch's No. 8 Chevy spun in Turn 4 but did not hit anything. Busch's qualifying time on his first lap was good enough for 15th fastest at 127.098 mph.

Logano got loose on the bottom of Turn 2 on his first of two laps, traveled up the track as the rear right smacked the wall. Logano was still able to complete both qualifying laps, but he will roll off the grid in 38th place (117.899 mph).
Stenhouse fastest in practice
Hyak Motorsports' Ricky Stenhouse Jr. topped the leaderboard in practice at 128.082 mph ahead of Team Penske drivers Ryan Blaney (127.571 mph) and Austin Cindric (127.140 mph).
Kyle Larson (126.737 mph) and Chase Elliott (126.520 mph) rounded out the top five for Hendrick Motorsports.

Brad Keselowski (126.495 mph), Denny Hamlin (126.461 mph), Kyle Busch (126.337 mph), John Hunter Nemechek (126.187 mph) and Alex Bowman (126.121 mph) completed the top 10.
After experiencing extreme tire wear in last year's Bristol spring race, Cup Series drivers dealt with similar conditions in practice.

Zilisch, in a social media post, said he underwent the surgery so a plate and screws could be put in and help the healing process. The Xfinity Series points leader did not say when he might return to racing. The series is off this weekend and then has three regular-season races remaining at Daytona, Portland (road course) and World Wide Technology Raceway (commonly known as Gateway). Zilisch indicated on the "Door Bumper Clear" podcast that he was briefly knocked out after the fall, where he had one foot on the roof and one on the driver's side window sill, where he had not tucked the window net inside the car but was instead laying underneath his foot. "I was climbing out of the car and obviously the window net was on the door and as soon as they started spraying water, my foot slipped and the last thing I remember is being halfway done and falling," Zilisch said during the USA telecast of the Cup race Sunday. ADVERTISEMENT "I'm glad it wasn't any worse." All CT scans Saturday proved negative for any head injuries. Zilisch, who races for JR Motorsports in the series and leads teammate Justin Allgaier by 13 points in the standings, fell off his car when he lost his footing while trying to stand on his car following his sixth victory of the season. If he doesn't start a race, he would need a waiver to miss a race(s) and still be eligible for the playoffs. He also could possibly start a race and then have a stand-by driver replace him during the event — Zilisch would then get the points for wherever the replacement driver finishes. Zilisch, the No. 1 Cup prospect in a FOX Sports midseason prospect ranking released last week, is expected to race full time in the NASCAR Cup Series next year. Here are the Cup power rankings going into this weekend's race at Richmond: Dropped out: Alex Bowman (Last Week: 10) On the verge: Bowman, Chris Buescher, Austin Cindric, Joey Logano, Tyler Reddick, Shane van Gisbergen 10. Brad Keselowski (Last Week: 9) Keselowski had a bad day in 31st. But the RFK Racing driver stays on this list with seven top 10s in his last 12 races. The RFK Racing driver has seven top 10s in his last 13 starts. 8. Chase Elliott (Last Week: 6) After a stretch of four top fives in five races, Elliott has finishes of sixth, 13th, 14th and most recently 26th at Watkins Glen. If the Hendrick driver is not good at Richmond, it might be time to wonder if he could be a championship contender. Bubba Wallace (Last Week: 8) Wallace finished eighth at Watkins Glen, and a top 10 on a road course for the 23XI Racing driver is a solid day. Kyle Larson (Last Week: 3) Larson had a brake issue and caboosed the field in 39th. Much like Larson, he has been feast or famine lately, with four finishes of 20th or worse in his last 10 races, but the other six finishes for the JGR driver included two wins, a second, two thirds and a fourth.
