Morocco Spotlights Investment Opportunities at ‘Morocco Now' Conference in Madrid
Rabat – Morocco showcased its economic strengths and investment opportunities during the 'Morocco Now' conference held on Tuesday in Madrid.
The event, held under the theme 'Investing Together for a Sustainable and Shared Future,' brought together major economic players from both Morocco and Spain.
The conference aimed to promote Morocco as a reliable and attractive destination for foreign investments, especially for European partners. Drawing over 150 companies, it was organized by Morocco's Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies, in collaboration with the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE).
During the event, the Moroccan delegation recalled the country's recent economic reforms, high-potential industries, and concrete projects available for mutually beneficial partnerships.
Spain's Secretary of State for Trade, Amparo López Senovilla, spoke of the strategic importance of the Morocco-Spain relationship. 'Our historical ties and strategic geographical locations bring both sides of the Mediterranean closer,' she said, MAP news agency reported.
She also pointed to the 12th high-level meeting between Morocco and Spain, held in Rabat in February 2023, which laid out a roadmap for deeper cooperation in key sectors such as economy and sustainability.
Morocco's Ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, described Morocco as a promising platform for Spanish businesses. She commended the country's ambitious strategic vision, favorable business climate, and growing partnership with Spain.
Meanwhile, Karim Zidane, Morocco's Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, urged Spanish companies to explore the many investment opportunities available in Morocco, especially in key sectors like aerospace, renewable energy, automotive, and electronics.
He noted Morocco's world-class infrastructure, skilled young workforce, and strategic location as reasons for its growing attractiveness to foreign investors.
Ali Seddiki, Director General of AMDIE, also spoke of Morocco's position as a leading hub for investment and exports in the region. He said the conference in Madrid aims to encourage more Spanish businesses to invest in Morocco.
Moroccan and Spanish officials have continuously vowed to strengthen cooperation in many sectors and encourage investment in both countries, especially after Madrid officially endorsed Morocco's sovereignty over the Western Sahara.

Poultry Prices Go Up Ahead of Eid Al Adha
Rabat – Moroccan markets have witnessed a notable increase in poultry produce just days ahead of Eid Al Adha, which will take place on June 7 in Morocco. Moroccan state-owned news provider SNRTNews reported today that prices of poultry in Casablanca markets reached MAD 23 per kilogram compared to MAD 17. Experts suggest that the notable change is due to the cancellation of the Eid al-Adha sacrifice ritual, which prompted a significant demand for poultry. In February, King Mohammed VI announced the cancellation of the sacrifice ritual, citing socio-economic challenges including drought. The climate challenges affected the livestock population, which saw a remarkable decrease. In response, the King stressed that the feast celebration could be enjoyed through performing Eid prayers and enjoying its spiritual significance, in addition to family visits and the atmosphere. Moroccans have in recent weeks taken to social media to comment on the high demand for meat products ahead of Eid Al Adha. This came as many Muslims are expected to enjoy the feast's culinary delicacies despite the absence of the sacrifice ritual. Some, however, have turned to buying fish and poultry products, as they fear that shops will be closed for weeks. Butchers traditionally close for several weeks during Eid Al Adha, knowing that most families have already secured more than enough meat through the sacrifice of goats or sheep. Butchers and markets selling poultry products have urged citizens to stock up on poultry provisions, warning against a similar scenario. Mohamed Aboud, president of the National Association of chicken farmers, told SNRTnews that the cancellation of the sacrifice ritual led many citizens to turn more heavily to poultry meat. He stressed that during Eid al-Adha, markets see a drop in demand for poultry initially. There is an exception this year, however, he said, noting that retail chicken prices now range between MAD 21 and 23 instead of their initial prices set at MAD 17. Mustapha Mountassir, president of the National Association of Poultry Meat Producers, echoed the same statement to the same source, noting that the price rise is due to demand outpacing supply. UK Support for Moroccan Autonomy Plan, 'Major Diplomatic Turning Point'
The United Kingdom's support for the Moroccan autonomy plan in the Sahara constitutes "a major diplomatic turning point," noted Naïma Moutchou, Vice President of the French National Assembly, on her official X account. "The United Kingdom joins France and the United States in supporting Morocco's autonomy plan for the Sahara. This is a major diplomatic shift: facts are prevailing, support is expanding, and a consensual political solution is taking shape,' she stated. "As Vice President of the Friendship Group – and Co-Chair of the Study Group on the Sahara (in the National Assembly), I welcome the progress being made towards a sustainable and realistic solution,' added Moutchou, who also serves as spokesperson and National Secretary of the Horizons party. France Thanks Morocco Over Arrest of Man Behind Crypto-Related Kidnappings
Rabat – France thanked Morocco today, stressing the country's importance as a strategic ally in security following the arrest of a suspect behind a series of recent crypto-related kidnappings in France. French Minister of Justice Gerald Darmanin conveyed his country's gratitude in a statement on X, where he 'sincerely thanks Morocco for this arrest.' He said this 'demonstrates the excellent judicial cooperation between our two countries, particularly in the fight against organized crime.' Earlier today, a joint operation by national judicial police in coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) enabled security services to arrest a French-Moroccan national. A statement from the police indicated that the suspect is thought to be involved in crimes related to kidnapping with extortion, ransom demands targeting cryptocurrency users, as well as money laundering operations as part of an international crime network operating in France. The arrest took place in Tangier, falling within Moroccan security services' efforts to tackle insecurity. Police arrested the suspect after receiving a formal complaint from French security services detailing the alleged criminal acts the suspect committed in the European country. DGSN stressed in a statement today that the security operation is part of ongoing and intensive efforts by the national police to combat transnational organized crime and to deny criminals a safe haven or a legitimate operating base in Morocco. Many countries, including France, have highlighted Morocco's assistance on the security front. In April, French Interior Minister Bruno Retalleau described Morocco as a 'precious partner' in security matters. 'We are witnessing a renewed energy in our bilateral relationship, one that extends across multiple fields, including security,' Retailleau said during his visit to Morocco in April.
