Petro Gazz repulses Choco Mucho, snaps skid in PVL On Tour

GMA Network5 days ago
Petro Gazz showed no rust from a lengthy break, bucking a slow start to complete a 20-25, 25-19, 26-24, 25-17 win against Choco Mucho in the 2025 PVL On Tour on Tuesday at the Candon City Arena.
The Angels, who were reeling from back-to-back losses to PLDT and Farm Fresh, erased an early deficit in Set 4 by unleashing a 14-3 closing run as they headed to the knockout round with a 2-3 card.
The Flying Titans, meanwhile, absorbed their fourth straight loss to go 1-4 in Pool A.
Myla Pablo carried the scoring cudgels as she posted a game-high 23 points anchored on 19 attacks, three blocks, and one ace to go with 16 receptions while another veteran in Nicole Tiamzon churned out 16 markers and 12 digs in Petro Gazz' first game since the departure of Japanese head coach Koji Tsuzurabara.
With deputy coach Brian Esquibel calling the shots, the Angels made sure to deliver as they erased an early 11-14 deficit in Set 4, unleashing a valiant 9-1 rampage fueled by the Pablo, Ranya Musa, and seldom-used Antonette Adolfo as they built a 20-15 cushion.
Choco Mucho answered with two consecutive points from a running kill from Jen Villegas and a Honey Royse Tubino rejection on Adolfo that sliced the gap to three, 17-20.
But Pablo proved to be clutch, unleashing a kill from the left wing before serving up an ace to instigate a 5-0 game-sealing blast. It was also Pablo's back row kill that punctuated the four-set victory for the Angels.
The loss spoiled a 17-point outing from Cherry Nunag, who had 11 attacks, four blocks, and two aces.

Farm Fresh averts collapse vs. Capital1, books PVL on Tour QF slot

Farm Fresh avoided a huge meltdown in Set 3 to complete a sweep of Capital1, 25-20, 25-15, 25-21, in the knockout phase of the 2025 PVL On Tour on Saturday at the Dasmariñas Arena in Cavite. The Foxies almost wasted an early lead in the third frame, but capitalized on the error-plague Solar Spikers to seal their place in the quarterfinals. Farm Fresh, however, is pitted against powerhouse Creamline in the next round. Lefty opposite hitter Trisha Tubu led the show with 15 points anchored on nine attacks, four blocks, and two aces while Caitlin Viray and Lorene Toring each chipped in 11 markers with the former grabbing nine receptions. "Thankfully, nakaabot kami ng quarterfinals ngayon and more work pa," Tubu said. "Dito namin nakikita 'yung weakness ng bawat isa, 'yung strength ng team so ngayon trust 'yung nangingibabaw sa amin kahit gaano kahirap 'yung nangyayari sa loob. Alam namin na kahit sino pwedeng asahan." Farm Fresh built a 16-10 spread in the crucial Set 3, but Capital1 refused to go home without putting up a fight as they slowly regained the momentum thanks to a 10-4 rampage that forced a 20-all deadlock. However, the Foxies stayed composed and took advantage of back-to-back attack errors from Syd Niegos as Jolina Dela Cruz unleashed a kill from the left wing to fuel a 3-0 blast that made it a 23-20 lead for the Foxies. Toring clinched the match point following an ace before Dela Cruz provided the finishing kick off another hammer from the open. Dela Cruz finished with 10 points and six digs while middle blocker Rizza Cruz chimed in with nine markers highlighted by three blocks. "Hindi kami nade-define ng results so hindi namin kailangan maging distracted about do'n and ayon, every game kailangan namin isipin na for progress namin 'yung mga games na 'to," Cruz said. "Kailangan naming mag-focus." —JKC, GMA Integrated News

Nxled subdues Farm Fresh to clinch outright QF berth; PLDT sweeps Pool A

Nxled came out roaring from a previous sweep loss, carving out a 25-13, 25-16, 25-14 win over Farm Fresh to clinch a quarterfinals seat in the 205 PVL On Tour on Sunday at the USJ-R Coliseum in Cebu. The Chameleons, who came out flat against PLDT the other day, leaned on veterans EJ Cariño and Chiara Permentilla to end their group stage run at 4-1, enough to join the High Speed Hitters as the outright playoff cast from Pool A. Cariño poured in 19 points anchored on 16 attacks, two aces, and one block laced with three receptions as Nxled humbled Farm Fresh, which were coming off a three-game winning streak but now fell to a 3-2 card. Permentilla provided the lift with 10 points and seven digs while Jovelyn Fernandez chipped in eight markers. "Sobrang happy naman ako kasi 'yung pinaghirapan namin from last year nagbubunga na under coach. Eager talaga kaming manalo ngayon para makapagpahinga kami sa weekend," Laure said. "Palaban ['yung character namin] and ayon din 'yung sabi ni coach na kailangan naming manalo." In the other game, PLDT completed a group stage sweep after blanking Galeries with a 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 victory behind the troika of Kim Kianna Dy, Jovy Prado, and Mika Reyes, Opposite hitter Dy picked up where she left off from last game by scattering 12 points this time around while both Reyes and Prado chipped in 10 markers. The High Speed Hitters have completed a preliminary round sweep with an unscathed 5-0 win-loss card while the High Risers endured their fifth loss in as many games. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
