New cast and director of latest Jurassic World sequel excited to be part of the ride
LONDON - Scarlett Johansson's role in Jurassic World Rebirth made her recall her earliest memories of the dinosaur film franchise.
The American actress recalled seeing the first Jurassic Park film in 1993 at the movie theatre when she was 10 years old.
'It imprinted on me very deeply,' the 40-year-old star said at the standalone sequel's London premiere at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. The movie opens in Singapore cinemas on July 2.
'For the next three decades, I was like, I would have done anything to be in a Jurassic movie in any capacity,' she added.
The franchise, created by American author Michael Crichton, has spawned several films, merchandising deals and video games.
Jurassic World Rebirth, directed by British film-maker Gareth Edwards, follows a team of specialists that embarks on an expedition to a forbidden island, home to a research facility for the original Jurassic Park.

Some of the specialists include characters played by Johansson and British actors Jonathan Bailey and Rupert Friend, who must obtain DNA samples from three dinosaurs to achieve a life-saving medical breakthrough.
For Friend, 43, this instalment in the franchise is exhilarating.
'I love adventure. I love being taken on a ride where you don't know what's going to happen. I love the unknown. I love risk,' he said.
For well-known science fiction director Edwards (Godzilla, 2014; Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, 2016), the pressure for Jurassic World Rebirth to succeed did not hit until he arrived at the premiere.
'It's all front and centre here. It feels a bit weird, to be honest. I can't quite get my head around it,' the 49-year-old added. REUTERS

NewJeans' Danielle attends Omega event in Japan with Ador staff
SEOUL – K-pop girl group NewJeans' Danielle was spotted at an event in Japan accompanied by staff from her agency Ador, a first since the girl group took legal action against the company. The 20-year-old Korean-Australian singer was in Kyoto, Japan, on June 18 to attend Swiss luxury watchmaker Omega's product launch for its new Aqua Terra 30mm collection. Also at the event were celebrities such as American model Ashley Graham, Nigerian singer Tems, American singer-actress Ariana DeBose and British actress Marisa Abela. Danielle, whose full name is Danielle Marsh, appeared at the event as a global ambassador of the brand, which she has endorsed since 2024. According to officials quoted by South Korean news outlet Sports Chosun, the event was part of Danielle's endorsement commitments, which had been planned way in advance by Ador. NewJeans also comprise Minji, 21; Hanni, 20; Haerin, 19; and Hyein, 17. The girl group have been in conflict with Ador since November 2024, when the members unilaterally declared they had terminated their contracts with the agency, citing a breach of trust. Since then, the group have attempted to operate independently under the name NJZ. The Seoul High Court on June 17 rejected an appeal filed by NewJeans , which challenged an injunction that barred them from independently signing advertising contracts or pursuing entertainment work without Ador's prior approval. The court's decision upheld a previous ruling in favour of Ador, a label under K-pop conglomerate Hybe, reinforcing its claim that the girl group's exclusive contracts remain valid. July marks three years since NewJeans' debut. THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

Clawing to freedom: New York restaurant releases 110-year-old lobster to the sea

PHOTO: PETER'S CLAM BAR/FACEBOOK Clawing to freedom: New York restaurant releases 110-year-old lobster to the sea A lobster estimated to be more than 100 years old is living its best life after being pardoned by two American officials and released into the ocean. The release of the 9.5kg 110-year-old crustacean named Lorenzo – a beloved mascot at Peter's Clam Bar in Long Island, New York – was held on June 12 in conjunction with National Lobster Day and Father's Day. He was earlier pardoned by Hempstead town supervisor Don Clavin and Nassau County legislator John Ferretti, according to reports by the US media. Broadcaster WNBC reported that Lorenzo then travelled to Atlantic Beach Reef with a full escort on a boat. Broadcaster NBC New York quoted Mr Clavin as saying: 'I can't think of a better way to celebrate National Lobster Month than by pardoning Lorenzo and sending him off to enjoy retirement in the Atlantic.' According to Peter's Clam Bar owner Butch Yamali, Lorenzo had been living at the eatery for years. 'Lorenzo just kind of slipped through the cracks and ended up in our tank for years,' Mr Yamali told New York City television station WPIX-TV. 'Some of these lobsters just don't live that long, and this one did. So we figured what better way to celebrate Father's Day than by freeing Lorenzo. He became like a pet. People would come see him and take pictures with him, and he was just an object of the store.' Mr Yamali said he was happy to be able to give Lorenzo a second chance at life in the sea. 'He's going to be missed, but I think it's better like this. If he passed away here, it wouldn't be a good thing, and I couldn't have the heart to sell him,' he said. A June 13 Facebook post by Peter's Clam Bar said Lorenzo is now 'living his best life – clawing his way to freedom and soaking up the salty breeze (instead of butter)'.
