Netflix's reboot of the "Little House on the Prairie" has found its new little Laura.
Melissa Gilbert, who starred as the original Laura Ingalls, took to Instagram on May 2 to help the streaming service share the casting news of the new show's first cast member Alice Halsey.
Gilbert starred in the original version of the popular NBC show, which premiered in 1974 and still boasts a cult following in present day. The program, based on the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, inspired a generation of women and celebrated its 50th anniversary last year with dozens of fan events across America.
"And…here she is. Wising them and @thealicehalsey all the luck in the world!!" Gilbert captioned the heartfelt post. "Netflix's new Little House on the Prairie series has found its Laura Ingalls! We are so thrilled to announce that Alice Halsey will be playing the iconic role of Laura Ingalls. Please give her a warm welcome to the Little House family!"
How 'Little House on the Prairie' star Melissa Gilbert shaped a generation of women
Gilbert added in her caption that "The 'Little House' books endure to this day because so many people see themselves in Laura. She is a disruptor. Honest to a fault. Questions authority. And she's our window into this adventure."
Halsey is an alum of the Golden Globe-nominated miniseries "Lessons in Chemistry," starring Brie Larson, and the long-running NBC soap opera "Days of Our Lives," which now airs on streaming service Peacock.
Gilbert spoke to USA TODAY about how "Little House" changed a generation of young people, in an interview published in April 2024.
"The thing that moves me the most is when people tell me the stories of how 'Little House on the Prairie' impacted their lives, what their childhoods were like, and why it was so important to them," Gilbert told USA TODAY. "A lot of people have said – and I'm sure will continue to say to me – 'Look, you were my escape from a bad childhood.' … We taught a lot of lessons and provided a lot of escapist entertainment."
Netflix 'Little House' will feature fresh take on beloved franchise
Earlier this year, Netflix announced that it would produce its own version of "Little House" based on Ingalls Wilder's beloved books.
"The new 'Little House on the Prairie' is part family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West. The series will offer a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier," a press release read about Netflix's fresh take on the tried-and-true program.

Jessie J diagnosed with early breast cancer, says she'll undergo surgery

Jessie J was diagnosed with "early breast cancer," the U.K. pop singer said on social media on Wednesday. The 37-year-old artist, whose real name is Jessica Ellen Cornish, said she was diagnosed with breast cancer before her latest single "No Secrets" was released in April. She said she will undergo surgery following her performance at Summertime Ball on June 15, an annual music festival in London. "Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding onto the word 'early'," she told her nearly 14 million followers on Instagram in a video. Jessie J said she's sharing her diagnosis partly because she's "not processing it," since she has been consumed with work. "Sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories," the singer said. The video was met with a flurry of supportive comments, including from fellow British pop stars Rita Ora and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. "Your literally my favourite person and I'm praying for you you've got this. my mother had it and I know the surgery and any treatment on this matter is mentally tough so I'm here for you. X," Ora wrote. The Grammy-nominated signer is known for her powerful and unique vocal. Her greatest hits include "Price Tag," "Masterpiece," Do It Like a Dude," "Domino" and "Bang Bang," the 2014 collaboration with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. Prior to "No Secrets," she had not release any new music since 2018. Breast cancer is characterized by five major stages, from Stage 0 to Stage 4. While the singer didn't disclose further details about her diagnosis, an early stage of breast cancer is "highly treatable and survivable," according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Aaron Paul Reveals the Hilarious Prank Bryan Cranston Pulled on Him While Making BREAKING BAD — GeekTyrant

Aaron Paul got his big break on the award-winning fan favorite series Breaking Bad , in which he starred alongside Oscar nominee and Emmy-winner, Bryan Cranston. The pair have remained friends, but Paul remembers a particularly cruel and hilarious prank that Cranston pulled on him while making the series. On a recent appearance on the hot wing talk show Hot Ones, Paul first praised his co-star, saying of Cranston, "He's the hardest worker in the room, the most lovable… but he's also the most immature I've ever met in my life. I say that with just love and respect, the list was endless." He went on, "I remember on Breaking Bad , he came out of the production office and came up to me and said, 'It's OK' and give me this long hug. I'm like, 'What are you doing?' He's like, 'At least you go out in a big way, huh?' And I'm like, 'What are you talking about?' He goes, 'Did you read the latest script?' I go, 'No.' He goes, 'Well, just read it, and I'm here if you need me.'' Paul continued, "So, I sprinted into the production office… of course, I go to the final pages [of the script] and nothing happened, I'm still around. But he just made it seem like I died. He would not stop. He would get everybody in on it, like the costume designers said, 'Hey we gotta do your measurements for the casket.'" Paul's character Jesse Pinkman got out of the series, not unscathed per se, but alive, and went on to star in the follow-up Netflix film, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie . Breaking Bad is currently streaming on Netflix. via: GamesRadar

What happened on ‘Love Island USA' last night? What you missed from the season 7 premiere

Just got a text... "Love Island USA" is officially back for a seventh season, with the premiere hitting NBC's streaming platform Peacock last night, Tuesday, June 3. And this season brings a group of Floridians looking for love, or at least "like," in Fiji. Although the episode was posted 44 minutes late, the premiere started off strong, with plenty of lip-locking, couple drama and even two bombshells entering the villa on the first night. Here's what you missed on the first episode of "Love Island USA" season seven, who coupled up, which cast members are from Florida and how to watch the second episode tonight, Wednesday, June 4. 'Love Island USA' returns: Here's how to watch, stream the season 7 premiere This season hit the ground running. Instead of "coupling up" based on looks and first impressions, the ladies made their choice of who to "couple up" with after choosing two guys to make out with first. Host (and Floridian) Ariana Madix explained these couples will not only be living together but will take part in challenges and share a bed, emphasizing the importance of chemistry. However, the couples that formed on last night's episode most likely won't remain partnered up for the entire six weeks. Anyone has the chance to steal or couple up with other people's partners throughout the show. There are five couples in total, including one with two Floridians: Watch 'Love Island USA' on Peacock This new season features four Floridian bombshells in the villa: Austin Shepard, 26, Northville, Michigan (Living in Fort Lauderdale) Chelley Bissainthe, 27, from Orlando Nicolas Vansteenberghe, 24, from Jacksonville Yulissa Escobar, 27, from Miami Ace Greene, 25, Los Angeles Austin Shepard, 26, Northville, Michigan Belle-A Walker, 22, Honolulu Chelley Bissainthe, 27, Orlando Huda Mustafa, 24, Raleigh, North Carolina Jeremiah Brown, 25, Los Angeles Nicolas Vansteenberghe, 24, Jacksonville Olandria Carthen, 27, Decatur, Alabama Taylor Williams, 24, Oklahoma City Yulissa Escobar, 27, Miami The premiere episode featured some steamy make-outs, brand-new twists and the beginnings of major drama. Here's a quick recap of how the Floridians did on last night's episode: Austin's first moments in the villa weren't too positive, as he was not chosen by any of the women during the couple shuffle and was coupled up with fellow Floridian Chelley, after her partner was stolen. The Fort Lauderdale pool technician joked around about Chelley not initially choosing him after they kissed. He did admit that if it was his choice, he would've made out with Chelley and Belle-A. Stealing her for a chat, Austin admitted he was very interested in Chelley. They discussed their expectations and what they were looking for in a partner. Later in the evening, the pair discussed living in Florida and all of the critters that call the state home. During the final challenge of the episode, Austin did not kiss anyone. But he did receive a kiss from new bombshell Cierra Ortega. Not only was Chelley the first to arrive at the villa but she was also the first to choose which man she wanted to couple up with. But her first pick, Ace, was stolen by fellow Floridian Yulissa. Earlier in the episode, she shared she had already met Ace back in January outside of a club. After she was coupled up with Austin, she said in a confessional that he was attractive, but stressed that it was only day one and she was keeping her options open. The following day, she shared that Ace was at the top of her list. Chelley and Ace ended up chatting about their initial meeting and their attraction to one another. They both seemed open to exploring their relationship more, despite not being coupled up currently. During the final challenge of the episode, Chelley kissed Ace and received a kiss from Ace, as well as from a new bombshell in the villa: George Georgiou. After Nicolas was coupled up with Belle-A, they discussed her boundaries and why she opted for a kiss on the cheek rather than a make-out session. While she is a frontrunner for Nicolas, he said he would still try to mingle with the other ladies. The following morning, he told Ace that him and Belle-A got more comfortable over the night. But he added that he also wanted to get to know Olandria, after they shared a kiss. During the final challenge of the episode, Nicolas kissed Olandria. He also received a kiss from new bombshell Cierra Ortega. Yulissa ruffled some feathers after she stole Chelley's partner, Ace, during the couple shuffle. However, the two seemed to hit it off afterward when discussing their heritages and families. In a catch-up with the ladies later, she said she wasn't trying to be messy and felt she had to "do what (she has) to do." The following day, she said she felt nervous around Ace but was ready to step outside her comfort zone. During the final challenge of the episode, Yulissa did not kiss anyone else but received a kiss from new bombshell George Georgiou. You can watch 'Love Island USA' live on Bravo and Peacock every day except for Wednesdays. However, there will still be an episode tonight, Wednesday, June 4, since it's premiere week. You can stream new episodes the night they air on Peacock. A premium monthly plan costs $7.99 or $79.99 for one year. The premium plus plan, which is ad-free, costs $13.99 per month or $139.99 a year. You can also catch up on seasons four, five and six of 'Love Island USA' on Peacock. A "Love Island USA" franchise staple, the cast always carries around personalized white water bottles to stay hydrated. Fans can purchase their own on the Love Island website. While "Love Island USA" is not exactly live, it is filmed in real-time with a delay of a day or two before it airs. The winner of each season is the couple that gets the most viewer votes as the favorite couple in the villa. During the finale, the winning couple with the most votes each get envelopes. One envelope has prize money and the other is empty. The person who gets the prize money can choose to keep it for themselves or split it with their partner.
