ESPN's College GameDay Asks For 'Special Help' With Lee Corso

ESPN's College GameDay Asks For 'Special Help' With Lee Corso originally appeared on The Spun.
As we near the end of Lee Corso's legendary run on "College GameDay" ESPN is looking for help from the show's audience as it looks to send him off the right way.
The 89-year-old analyst and former coach is calling it a career next month after nearly four decades on the air previewing college football's matchups and making his iconic headgear picks.
Corso suffered a stroke back in 2009 that slowed him down a bit but he didn't let it stop him from ultimately returning to the "GameDay" desk — even if his travel has been limited in recent years. It also hasn't made him any less beloved by the show's viewers or the players that he coached.
"Lee is the quintessential entertainer, but he was also a remarkable coach who established lifelong connections with his players," Rece Davis said of his colleague back in April.
"When GameDay went to Indiana last season, the love and emotion that poured out from his players was truly moving. It was also unsurprising," he admitted. "Every week, Lee asks about our families. He asks for specifics. He celebrates success and moments, big and small, with all of us on the set."
"He's relentless in his encouragement. That's what a great coach, and friend, does," the "GameDay" host shared. "Lee has made it his life's work to bring joy to others on the field and on television. He succeeded."
Now the Worldwide Leader is asking fans to share what the coach means to them by submitting a video message that could run on his very last show.
"As we get ready to celebrate Lee Corso's final show on College GameDay, here is your chance to share a personal message to Coach ❤️" ESPN posted to X. "Submit your video by August 15, more information here."
CFB Saturdays aren't going to feel the same without Corso. And to the network's credit, "GameDay" will not be making anymore headgear picks once Lee leaves the set.
Corso's final appearance will be August 30 when the show travels to Columbus for Ohio State's Week 1 opener vs. Texas. He was also honored at this year's ESPYs where he received a tribute from Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and the USC marching band.ESPN's College GameDay Asks For 'Special Help' With Lee Corso first appeared on The Spun on Jul 29, 2025

Steelers All-Pro K Chris Boswell 'privately' looking for new deal, per report

The contract news keeps on rolling in Pittsburgh — as ESPN's Adam Schefter revealed another All-Pro Steeler is looking for a payday. Shortly after reporting the Steelers haven't made any progress on a restructured deal with veteran DT Cameron Heyward, Schefter reported K Chris Boswell is looking for a new contract extension with Pittsburgh. "In addition to Cam Heyward, All-Pro kicker Chris Boswell privately has been seeking a new contract from the Steelers, per source," Schefter wrote on X. "Despite being voted first-team All-Pro, Boswell was the AFC North's lowest-paid kicker last season. Three years ago, Boswell signed a contract that tied him with Justin Tucker as the NFL's highest-paid kicker; but that market also has been reset the past two years." In August 2024, Harrison Butker became the NFL's highest-paid kicker — signing a four-year, $25.6 million extension with the Kansas City Chiefs. His $6.4 million average per year completely reset the market — and considering Boswell is arguably the best kicker in the league, a new contract could well exceed that amount. Boswell is not playing in the preseason opener vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars, as are 14 other healthy Steelers, but we at Steelers Wire will keep you updated as more information becomes available. Auburn pushing to flip 2026 Mississippi State defensive lineman commit

Auburn football is looking to sway one of Alabama's top defensive linemen from the 2026 class away from an SEC rival. Hugh Freeze and his staff will have a strong chance to do so this fall. Jeffrey Lee of Rivals reported this week that three-star defensive lineman and Mississippi State pledge Kaleb Morris has scheduled a visit to Auburn. According to Lee, Morris will visit the Plains during the weekend of Nov. 1 when the Tigers host Kentucky at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Morris tells Lee that he is excited to take a visit to Auburn, which will be his first outside of attending camps with his high school team. Like so many other recruits, the key man in charge of communicating with Morris is defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams. Morris described his relationship with King-Williams in a recent interview with Rivals. 'Coach (King-Williams) is recruiting me pretty hard. He's a great person, a cool guy," Morris said via Rivals. "He came to watch one of my practices in the spring and did an in-home visit that day. We've been building a relationship ever since.' Auburn joined the race for Morris later than most other programs, and will compete alongside Colorado, Oklahoma State, and Miami in its attempt to flip him from Mississippi State. Morris, a native of Semmes and a senior from Mary G. Montgomery High School, is a three-star defensive lineman according to all major recruiting outlets. He ranks as high as No. 74 nationally among defensive linemen, and No. 32 among 2026 recruits from Alabama. ESPN reporter rips Dan Patrick over concerns with NFL deal: ‘I'm embarrassed for you'

The NFL is acquiring a 10 percent equity stake in ESPN, but one veteran journalist at the Worldwide Leader isn't worried about a potential conflict of interest. ESPN senior writer Don Van Natta Jr. lambasted Dan Patrick after the former 'SportsCenter' anchor questioned if the outlet would still cover negative NFL stories. Advertisement 'Dan, [ESPN reporter Kalyn Kahler] and I did a run of exclusive reporting on the NFLPA story that led directly to Lloyd Howell's resignation: A confidentiality agreement, the Carlyle Group, strip club receipts,' Van Natta posted on X Wednesday night. 'Do your homework before you malign your ex-colleagues. I'm embarrassed for you.' Van Natta and Kahler teamed up to report nine stories for ESPN about the recent NFLPA scandal and Howell's resignation in recent weeks. 3 Don Van Natta Jr. on the 'Today Show' in 2011. NBC Newswire/NBCUniversal via Ge Advertisement On Wednesday's episode of his 'Dan Patrick Show,' Patrick voiced his skepticism on how ESPN will handle the deal from a journalistic standpoint. 'The journalist in me would point out the conflict of interest, but ESPN can't be any further in bed with the NFL,' Patrick said. 'Are they going to look the other way with any negative story that comes up? They probably already do that. Advertisement 'I don't know how deep ESPN went in on the mess of the NFL Players Association. I know [Pro Football Talk's Mike] Florio did, a couple people did.' 3 Dan Patrick questioned ESPN's ability to cover the NFL fairly after the league bought equity in the network. @dpshow/X That prompted Van Natta's post, and a subsequent message that continued to blast Patrick for his comments: 'Imagine saying 'the journalist in me' and then failing Journalism 101.' When someone replied and pointed out that Van Natta's exposé was on the NFLPA, and not the league itself, the reporter replied: 'I am not going to tick off the dozens of investigative stories I have done about the NFL since joining ESPN in 2012. Look them up.' Advertisement 3 NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. AP Van Natta, a two-time Pulitzer Award winner, has been at ESPN since 2012. Before that, he was an investigative correspondent for the New York Times for 16 years. The NFL is acquiring its equity stake in ESPN in exchange for NFL Network and other media assets owned by the league, including NFL RedZone and NFL Fantasy, the league announced Tuesday.
